The last two days ive been really busy modifiying a PAL Megadrive 1 for a fellow DP'er, this Mod has everything a Megadrive gamer could want, a region switch, a 50/60hz switch and a Blue LED!

I thought id show you what i have done over the last few days as i think these Blue LEDs can bring the consoles to life... Especailly a PAL Dreamcast!
The reason i put one in my Dreamcast is because the PAL Logo for Dreamcats is Blue, yet we were given the same colour LED as the JAP and USA versions of the Dreamcast Logo... I feel this looks a lot better!

These are a lot brighter than they look, its hard taking a photo of a light...
Finally my Ultra 16bit Setup, a MD 2 with Mega CD 2 & a 32x modified for all regions with a 50/60hz switch and Blue LED.... pure gameplay!

Anyone else have a modded console of any kind?

Yeah, I've double-switched my main Mega Drive & Saturn, region-modded my NES & (US) SNES and 60Hz modded my Jag. I don't really like cosmetic mods, but the blue LEDs are pretty cool.

I'm thinking of doing my spare SMS1 aswell - haven't bothered in the past since I mainly play through a Power Base Convertor on my Mega Drive, but a couple of the TecToy games I recently got won't work on there and I can't bear to play them in 50Hz.

My model 2 Genesis is modded for Jap/PAL games, stereo, and s-video. Love it!

I also have:

- region modded SNES
- region modded N64
- region modded Turbo Duo
- debug BIOS modded AES
- modded PSone

Does breaking the tabs out of my SNES so I can play SFC games count?

Check my pics in the "beyond" galleries to see my modded consoles. :)

Cauterize, how difficult was it to change out the LED in the MD 2? What size LED goes in there? That's about the only console I haven't cracked open yet... ;)

I'm not much on light mods myself (it's just my personal taste), but I love to improve the hardware as unobtrusively as possible!

Neo Geo mods: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=12

Genesis mods: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=14

NGC mods: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=4

Saturn mods: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=8

ColecoVision mods: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=20

Some of those CV mods have been fetching insane prices on Ebay, when you can spend a fifth of the Ebay price, and just pay to have your own done. It's craaaaazy!

So far all I've had done is have a blue LED placed into my platinum Gamecube, and I had someone else do that for me.

I wish I had a Blue LED in my Dreamcast...

I tryed putting one in and I just burned a big black spot on the controller board(also now no LED's seem to work). LOL

System still works perfectly though, just no LED light for me... :(

I did this exact same MOD about a year ago. My switches are smaller and placed on the side of the console (next to the volume slider) and they are mounted on a silver metal plate. I installed the blue LED and also went as far as to paint the small piece of plastic around the LED blue (its normally red).

You wanna use a 3mm LED, i used 3mm LED's on all of these, tried a 5mm LED in the DC and it was weak as hell! These little 3mm ones kick ass! and light the room up too!

As im in the modding mood, i just also did my SNES with the 2 switches :-) no LED yet thou as i have run out of them :embarrassed:

Cool beans Caut, especially the DC.

I haven't modded anything myself, but I would love to find a way to fuse a Genesis, Sega CD and 32X so it only needed one power supply and one av out :)

I also have a blue LED on my dreamcast, and tried to draw over the orange swirl with a blue sharpie.

Then I built a semi-circular window below the logo, on the bottom half of the door, so you can see what is in there, with a blue border. Looks good.
