View Full Version : 2005's 1st Quarter: Bought A Lot of Games...Or Very Few?

Some may remember that my goal this year was to cut way back and buy no more than 20 games over the course of the entire year. So far, I'm holding fast to that with only 3 game purchases that were initiated this year (I'm not counting a few games that arrived this year but which I actually ordered in December). The 3 I've bought so far this year:

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)
2. MLB Pennant Chase (PS1)
3. MVP Baseball 2005 (Xbox)

I can now average almost 2 games a month from here on...I'd have to still have one month where I buy just one. Luckily, there's not too many games out there I feel I absolutely have to have. Resident Evil 4 seems to be calling my name, though...

I think the above is correct.. It's entirely possible I bought one game I can't recall...I'll have to double-check on this.

While I've since slowed down, up through the end of February, I had averaged buying 1+ game a day for nearly 60 days.

Obviously, I didn't buy one game a day, but there were several times where I picked up 10 or 15 games at a time. There have been some really good sales already this year - and I've probably put back or passed over just as many games as I've bought.

Like I said, I've started to slow way down though, because I actually want to enjoy some of the games I picked up, like Metal Gear Solid 3, which has yet to go in my PS2 nearly 3 months after I bought it.

I didnt buy a whole lot, because I have to ::gasp:: save my money for a car. It was nice having a job and being able to blow all my cash each month, but now I gotta save. I think a total of 2 or 3 games.

Bought 50 games since the start of year. :/

Pretty good considering I'm unemployed. :)

On one hand, I have bought about 30 current-gen games so far this year.

On the other hand, I have traded in about 40 current-gen games so far this year.

I've still got in-store credit too :D I love buying cheap, good games!

All of my purchases this year were in a few days of each other. I bought a few Dreamcast games, and now that you can pick them up for pretty cheap, I've started building up my Xbox collection. I try not to buy games when they first come out since they seem to drop in price very quickly. It's hard to find anything pre-Dreamcast in the wild here so I've cut back on the game buying compared to last year.

My game buying is greatly increase due to me having to drive further for college, so now I have 2 towns to raid twice a week instead of one.

I've bought about 300 games this year. My average price is probably around $2 per game. So thats not too bad.

I bought more brand new (not day of release...just not used per se) games in the past 3 weeks than I did all of last year I think...

I got Castle Shikigami 2 (PS2), MVP Baseball 2005 (XBox) and Beyond Good & Evil (XBox).

Three games in the last 3 weeks, and I'm pretty sure that beat last year's total...

I've bought plenty of games, though as far as new releases go, I think I've only bought ten or even less...I've been trying to cut down on buying new games at full price, and now I'm waiting for price drops.

This quarter, I think I've picked up:

1. Xevious - GBA (NES Classics)
2. Pong for the Odyssey2
3. Ram It! - 2600 (lucky thriftin' find)
4. Megaforce - 2600 (see #3)
5. Video Chess - 2600 (see #3)
6. Rogue Squadron III - GC

I think that's it - that's all that springs to mind. Some of those I actually got for free too. Been a pretty calm quarter for me. And I'm still playing Xevious and Ram It! LOL

Dumped 60 PS2 games and the system (thanks to Gran Turismo 4.....piece of crap LOL )

Used the credit to switch to an Xbox and 15 games. Other than that, I've grabbed one game for my N64 collection.....Indiana Jones And The Infernal Machine. Also bought one PSX game.....The Italian Job.

If I could live with one machine, I would.

I haven't bought very much. I'm way too broke. I'm praying that I'll FINALLY get a job with my school for the fall semester (I tried this semester, but I was too late :( ). Anyway, I bought three games for roughly $10 each for my boyfriend's birthday, and I got a few games on eBay right after Christmas. That's about it. Oh, I forgot, I did get Radiata Stories, which was a pretty expensive purchase at about $70, but it was worth it. :) That kept me busy for a long time (still have plenty more to do too), and now I'm just farting around with various old games. I fired up the MVS the other day and played some Magical Drop 2 and Blazing Star. :)

I've been doing pretty good only bought 10 games so far

1. Suikoden IV
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Brothers in Arms
4. Doom 3
5. Breath of Fire II
6. Technic Beat
7. MLB 2K5
8. Timesplitters 2
9. Sega 2K1 Sports 3 Pack for DC
10. Sword of Mana

All games totaled $263.70 and that's $87.90 per month

That may not be the best, but for me its definately a lot less than I was spending last year. I had to cut myself back because I ran up my credit card buying games, and now I haven't used my cards since December, very happy :)

Also glad to hear that you're doing well with your resolution Rog :)

I actually sorta gave up collecting about 9 months ago when I posted my "Thrill is gone (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37941)" thread. Since then I've only collected what I wanted to play or really really cheap stuff (Which I usually regret later on) so it's not much.

But since January I'd say I've picked up a dozen games give or take for various systems. I've gotten into Metroid and Metroid Prime, bought Touch and Go, bought the PSP with three games so far, I still have an unopened copy of TOCA for Xbox with Colin McCrae in it, also a bunch of NES Classic GBA games. Not much.

My goal this year was to get all of the US 7800 games complete. So far I bought 6 7800 games and 1 5200 game (didn't know I needed it, Realsports variation :D ). I deleted the 7800 search reminder from ebay for the time being, as I have spent more money than I usually do.

I've bought 40 or so but most were relatively inexpensive. I haven't bought much current gen stuff lately. The only thing I bought for a current system this year is SFAC for XBOX. Other than that I mostly bought Genny/Megadrive and Saturn games, mostly relatively affordable ones, and a few DC games.

I need to calm down for a while before I completely lose it and go another berserk importing spree. I can't really afford it (not that I really could before).

It's been alright game-wise for me. I haven't been buying much, but I am going to a flea market soon, and last time I went I walked out with 45 games for under $40. So hopefully I'll have good luck this time around. Anyway, this quarter, I got:

Resident Evil 4 (GC)
Wario Ware Touched! (DS)
Yoshi's Touch and Go (DS)
Mario Party-e (Is this a video game?) (e-Reader)
Mario's Tennis (Virtual Boy)

Classic NES Series (GBA):

Xevious
Ice Climber
Zelda II
Castlevania
Dr. Mario
Metroid

Not bad.
