I thought that Gamecube was known as project dolphin, but what is with the Nintendo 64-ish cartridge slots?

Dolphin dev carts. I...don't know much about them, sorry. They're big long things that indeed look like N64 carts.

First one is a Gang Writer for NPDP-Cartridges (scsi-harddrive in a case).
Second one is the DDH....erm...a dev kit

Are they....up for sale? :=)

No, someone had sent me a few pictures of them in my email the other day. He had found them, apparently, and wondered what they were. And I didn't know :/

Thanks for the information guys.

Second one is a version of the Gamecube dev kit (or Dolphin as it appears to be quite early). Much similar to the one I saw Jeff Minter coding his stuff on when he moved it about to demonstrate some of his work.

Actually though, it's more for RUNNING the code than actually coding on it. He was doing the assembler stuff on a different PC and then transfering it over via connection.

Looks like it has connections maybe for those Proto GameCube controllers.

Indeed, they are the connections for the pre-Gamecube style controllers.

Haha yeah I was about to say that. I have a proto controller and the connection would fit that perfect.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

Is it difficult to locate dev items/systems?

Not if your a developer... (i'm not trying to be sarcastic by the way)

If you're not in the industry, your best chance is hanging out at www.assemblergames.com

This reminds me of the current Revolution dev boxes, in that they are supposedly modified GameCubes.
