Hey guys,
Heard this on the news this morning. I'm sorry in advance if this was already posted, and if this was, feel free to please remove it.
A lady auctioned her name on eBay, to which the highest bidder would then get to legally change her name. So who was the highest bidder and how much did her name go for? I'm assuming the highest bidder was GoldenPalace.com, because that's what her new name is legally. The winning bid was $15,000.
So I take it her first name is Golden, middle name is Palace, and last name is dot com? Either way, funny stuff, can't say I'm surprised this sort of stuff is happening anymore either ...

Some girl asked her a question, and it turned out to be seeing her at a concert.
I bet you could pick a pornographic name in another language, say it was your grandma's name, and she'd change it. That would be great! LOL

Seems to be a online gambling site. And they buy alot of advertisments, like "tattoo on my arm with you biz".

What i find strange is that, in the auction, she keeps talking about "high bids wins" and "(1) PUBLIC APPEARANCE for every $10,000 bid increment. For example, if the bidding ends @ $60,000, there will be (6) PUBLIC APPEARANCES INCLUDED. ", etc. etc. and then the auction has a starting price of $15,199.00 and a BIN of the same amount ?? It almost seems they might some mistake when listing it...

According to the auction description the BIN was supposed to be $200,000. I guess she screwed up and has to live w/ it now.
What I want to know is if she ends up being a single mother will her kids' last name be Casino? I would think that it would have to be since it's her legal name.

What's to stop her from just changing her name later though?
She can say "forever" all she wants, unless they sign some sort of contract...can you even make up a contract like that? I don't think that naming rights to a human being is something that'd hold up in court as a defendable asset.
EDIT: With more thought given to the matter, Golden Palace is BRILLIANT.
They don't care about the actual advertising space on someone's arm, they're doing advertising simply by being known as this crazy ebay bidder. They know that millions of people online will see them bidding on this stuff, and they'll get famous, as they have, and since these people are already confirmed internet users, they're part of GP's target market (as an online casino).
I wish I had thought of that, they're probably making a mint...

This is getting ridiculous and annoying, I'm getting REALLY tired of seeing people pull this trash just for some quick cash.
You know, your name is sacred, and changing the name that your Parents chose for you is pretty much the equivalent of spitting in your parents face...and changing it to something stupid for some quick cash is even worse.
I lose faith in society every day.

I am starting to wonder if golden palace is making up these auctions, then winning them and just paying the Ebay fees. Would that be a violation of Ebay's terms? I mean as long as golden palace wins and pays Ebay the auction fees who cares? And Golden palace is getting the PR they want but at a much cheaper price than we all think. Just a theory of mine.

Wangan, my girlfriend said the exact same thing about her changing her name right back. That's a good thought, actually. I'm not sure if there was some contract involved, or, if what you said, you could even make a contract out of something like this ... either way, it's crazy.
I can't remember where I read this, but someone said that maybe GoldenPalace.com is bidding on all of these items to create some sort of crazy museum of weird things on the Internet. I'm sure that's just speculation, but who knows what their motivation is?
Hep brings up a good point too about Golden Palace creating a little PR machine for themselves via eBay. Interesting thought.
Cmosfm, I'm with you man. I guess that shows what kind of a world we live in as far as people doing crazy stuff for money ...

Goldenpalace.com tries to buy pieces of internet history. For instance, they purchased the grilled cheese sandwich with the Virgin Mary in it.

Golden Palace was also responsible for the Super Bowl streaker. They paid some dude to write goldenpalace.com all over himself and streak the SuperBowl. I can't believe that isn't somehow illegal. But, they are smart because they get national attention for a small investment.

Heh, I remember the streaker during the Super Bowl in 2004. It was during half time and the game was just about to resume in the second half when this idiot charged onto the field. One of my favorite Pats players, Mike Chatam, came up to him and WHAM! Sent him flying. Funniest thing I saw all year. LOL
