Is that where she went? You only let her out every once in a while (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0507343/) to do an obsure movie, eh?
Lessee.. I'd say my centerpiece as it were would be... I guess my original. The game that started it all. Thee game that got me back into gaming. My boxed SMB3. When I found it, I realized there were people out there that still cared about the classics. I wouldn't trade that in for all the tea in Boston.

id say its Matrimelee AES, or

I'll have a new centerpiece soon, one that I won from a contest. It will soon be framed and put up on my wall, but I won't reveal what it is just yet. ;P
But for now... I don't really know. O_o I have nothing especially unusual. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood is always nice for showing off. :) It's easily my single most valuable game. And of course, I got RPGs out the wazoo, many of which are pretty valuable.

The most valuable item in my collection would probably be my Flinstones: Surprise at Dino Peak or my complete Secret Scout. Neither of those really stand out as a centerpiece though. So, for the time being, I'd have to say that my NES collection itself is the center of my collection. It comprises 50% of the collection as a whole, but it just looks so damn good on the shelves. Plus all the ladies ooh and ahhh at it when they come over... j/k. As I approach game 1000, I think I want to finally pick up a copy of Stadium Events. I think Stadium Events can stand as the centerpiece of my collection then.

AES carts.
Expensive Saturn and PCE stuff (shooters and such).
Battle Garegga. Matrimelee AES. AOF3 AES JP (much better than the first two).
RofBlood, Kaze Kiri, Magical Chase, PCE RCRansom, PCE Steam Hearts (yeah that thing, I got a good deal on it).
Chip Chan Kick and some of my other PCFX stuff including the system I suppose.
Undead Line (Megadrive). Alien Soldier (Euro MD).
More Saturn, PCE, NeoGeo stuff. Some nice, fairly pricey boxed Super Famicom games.
Some DC stuff, matching service games and what not.
I guess I don't have a centerpiece per se.

***Beware- Long Winded Pontification Contained Below***
Since I only collect NES, the only thing I can claim as a centerpiece is a large number of R6 and R7 NES carts.
Since the world of NES collecting really only has 5 or 6 carts worthy of a label such as "centerpiece", it's kinda hard.
As far as those NES centerpiece carts...
NWC Cart is pretty much out of the realm for me. Even if I had that sort of disposable income, I don't think i'd spend that kind of $$$ on a NES game.
Impressing other gamers isn't high on my agenda. Sorry.
Stadium Events is a great rarity. When one comes up on ebay, I might pick it up, but given the prices it sells for, this possibility gets less and less every passing year. When I can buy an acre of land in a few states for the same price as this cart sells for, i'll take the acre every time.
No interest in 6-1's or other oddity multicarts- or at least, I wouldn't ever spend the sort of money the regularly command.
The Panesians (BB Babes, Hot Slots, PAB Poker) are desirable enough, but they are very infrequently sold, and again.... $200 and $300 for a cart is a lot of cheese. Still, I intend to aquire these sometime in the next year.
IN short, I think the R6's and R7's of today are tommorow's "grail" carts as more and more people are getting into NES and the carts begin to spike in price. When todays 25 year old turns 40, I really believe that desirable and rare classic NES games will be very expensive. The cart you pay $10 for today may very well be tommorows $500-$1000 cart.
Don't laugh, either. The 1960's GTO my dad bought in 1986 for $800 was recently sold- in the same condition he bought it in excepting for a few mechanical repairs- for just shy of $16,000.
The World War 1911 pistol a neighbor bought from the NRA for $30 each in 1965 are now worth $1500 each.
10 or 15 years from now when 40 year old men with commensurate incomes go to reclaim the NES parts of thier youth- just as happened with baseball cards or classic cards- the prices will reach the stratosphere.

Well, once I pick up the last game I need (it's currently waiting for me at the Post Office), I'd guess my complete European Master System collection would be the centrepiece.
If we're talking individual items, it'd have to be my copy of Les Schtroumpfs Autour du Monde (SMS, R9).

Maybe my sharp 19" NES combo television ??? Or my complete Caltron 6 in 1... Boxed Flinstones 2 , the factory sealed Cheetahmen 2 is nice as well.
My big Virtual boy collection could be considered a center piece as well :/

My nes library of 70+ games or my Chavez 2 that i found yesterday

There are three things that kinda get more focus than anything else:
Tengen Tetris: When I heard that they were being yanked off shelves I was curious about getting a copy. When I saw back in the early 90's that a game store sold a copy for $60 I knew I wanted one. Then I got one: $2 at a Goodwill. The fact I paid so little is also a sort of "centerpiece".
My NES: out of all of my game systems I have owned, this is the only one I never, ever sold. Owned since 1987. Not a big deal except to me but I still mention it when people ask.
"The Atari": this VCS four-switcher has more sentimental value than anything. My uncle used to own this machine. Back when we were kids, my now current wife and I used to play against each other on this machine. It brought us together. So as payment for fixing my cousin's computer I asked for that system and got it. (FYI: no, my wife and I weren't related-we share similar relatives due to marriages. Just sounds backwater LOL ).

Oh yeah... and I'm getting a copy of Flinstones 2 on the NES in the mail very soon

there is also a smaller version in yellow that was put in arcades for kids to play

Honestly, I might have to go with the Alien Hominid figurine set, just for nostalgic reasons. The producer of the game sent them to me just because he's a really nice guy. He also would buy me beer a couple months later, but I can't display draft beer.

I have a lot of rarer and more valuable things, but no matter what I get my friends tend to gravitate towards "Kris Kross: Make My Video" as the centerpiece. Either that or my Power Glove that actually works. That's what they think, anyway...I'm not sure what I think yet.

What i consider the center pieces of my collection everyone else seems to have.
CIB Chrono Trigger and FF3 only i got mine both free so they are much more important to me.
One of my favorite things is my Halo Xbox (which everyone also seems to have)
And the thing people ask about the most oddly enough is my CIB Colecovision which i also got for free.
I also have an assortment of displays, posters, shipping boxes.
Unfortunately I haven't got anything new in quite awhile.

I don't think we've done this thread, but we've done threads that probably had similar answers. Like "What's the single rarest item you have" "What's the single most valuable" etc.

Bah it doesn't have to be one-of-a-kind to be a centerpiece. All my rare/valuable games just blend in with the rest anyway. Not really centerpieces. If I didn't have the Mario sign I would've gone with something like Taiko Drum Master just because of the box. Or my boxes for NES, SNES, Game Boy/Pocket/SP, N64, and Gamecube, because I have them all together and everybody asks about them. Pretty common stuff, but makes a great display.

My centerpiece is worthless to all, but priceless to me:
My original NES from Christmas '87 complete with Ghostbusters stickers lining the bottom and my name written on the door with one of those highly toxic 'silver-lining' markers they used to sell back then. The best part is, it works first try - every time, just like the day I got it.

Yeah, the stuff tends to blend in. Especially the stuff I have sitting on shelves that doesn't have a title on the side that non-Japnese readers can read.
Most people don't even recognize them as PCE games, let alone rare or valuable games as many are. The quality overwhelms people who know the stuff, the quantity overwhelms everyone else.
Same with the Saturn stuff. To the average person that Saturn D+D collection on the shelf blends in with the other 60 Saturn imports.
There is generally one of two reactions, largely because of the blending:
1. Holy @#$% that's a lot of games/imports.
2. Why do you have so many games? Isn't it a waste of money? Blah, blah....
The second type of people don't usually enter the room though, unless it's someone I'm awfully close to.... then again, in that case they tend to just let it go unsaid.
My PC with a broadband internet connection! Without those two things, I'd never be able to continue all my collecting as I have been for the last 5 years!

LOL Thanks. That was all I could think of that really stands out to me now. All of my really special pieces just blend in with the rest too. I would say that it was my factory sealed MegaDrive Encyclopedia, but I just had to sell it to come up with some extra cash for some more import games, so until I can afford to replace it, I can't claim that as my centerpiece anymore. And all the rest of my stuff is just a bunch of games when you look at it all as a whole. I get the same reactions from people who've seen it. I've yet to meet anyone who knows what it all is and appreciates all the rarities for their value, but most people I meet who've seen it seem to appreciate it as an investment. They know that games aren't cheap, so they figure it must be worth alot.

My red PS2. That would be the one thing I am most renowned for and most definately the centrepiece of my collection.
I guess I can also count my sealed copies of Vandal Hearts II, Suikoden I, Paper Mario, and Mario Party II as things which stick out the most.
Oh, and two Steel Battalions also have to be included as well! ;)

I'd have to say my giant licensed Legend of Zelda wristwatch wall clock...
http://www.classicplastic.info/pics-zeldaclock08.jpg
(I REALLY need to take some new pics, that GameCube thing on the adjacent wall is the display case sized cardboard GameCube poster that Target stores put in the (empty) GameCube case prior to launch so it wouldn't look empty / hide any early arrivial games that were displayed behind it.)
It seems Slate of the DP forums has one of these clocks as well - that makes a grand total of three (including mine) that I've come across. Due to one of the biggest spelling errors in history / some really good luck it cost more to ship the clock then it did to buy it. LOL
