Does anybody know anything about this game? Game FAQ's lists it by the name of Daibouken St. Elmo's No Kiseki. It looks like some sort of tall ships strategy RPG, similar to Uncharted Waters, also known as Daikoukai Jidai. It must be fairly rare and obscure too, because I've never run across it before, and it's costing me $75 plus shipping. I hope I'm not paying too much for it.

Anyhow, I couldn't resist buying it anyway. I've gotten into collecting import strategy games for the Saturn bigtime, so when I see something like this I have to have it, even if I know very little about it. I've discovered some real gems that way, so it doesn't really bother me too much to take a blind risk on it, even if it is a pretty expensive risk. Normally I wouldn't spend that much on a game that I know nothing about, but it's factory sealed, and I couldn't even find a used copy of it for sale anywhere. So I figured that it's probably worth it, and I was afraid to wait too long to jump on the BIN on it.

This seller has alot of other factory sealed Saturn imports that he just listed, too, and most of them are games that I know are very rare, even used. So that made this game seem like a pretty safe bet for being worth the price.

But what exactly am I gonna be getting? The seller listed it as an RPG, Game FAQ's lists it as a strategy game, and another page lists it as an adventure game. So I'm thinking that it probably has elements of all three categories, which means that it'll probably be very cool. The screenshots on the rear insert show an overhead view of a ship sailing around a large land mass, a cinematic view of a ship that looks like pretty good CGI for the time (1996), and a first person view of a large sea battle, with a bunch of other ships getting pelted with cannon fire and firing their own cannons back at you, so it looks really cool. The cover has an old map of the world in the background, a cinematic view of a ship in th center, and three people in the foreground. There's a guy with a sword, a guy with a book, and a girl with a basket. So it's bound to be similar to other games that are set in the same time period.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else here had it or played it or knew anything about it, while I wait for it to arrive so I can report more about it. I'm especially interested in finding out about its rarity, but I'm also wondering if it's known by any other names too, and that's why I can't find any used copies of it anywhere. Have I discovered a hidden gem or an overpriced dud?

I found it listed as "Great Adventure" noted to be ADV and SLG & RPG. Here is it's number if you want to search some more.

T-23101G

I found it translated as this:

Large adventure Miracle of cent ERUMOSU

Starting at 500 円.

HMM... Well I guess I will have to report what it's like when it arrives then. I'm still guessing that it's an Uncharted Waters clone. I recently found out about an apparent Nobunaga clone that looks like it's really good too, but I should've discovered it about a year ago, when a factory sealed one popped up on ebay. Apparently it hasn't been seen there factory sealed since then.

Have you heard of Tenga Seiha or Tenka Seiha? I saw some screenshots of it that looked awesome, but the alternate spellings are annoying. Now I'll have to search for it both ways until I find it in the condition I want it in. And then it'll probably be prohibitively priced, and I'll be prohibitively broke. But it does seem to be some kind of feudal Japan historic simulation game.

Speaking of games set in feudal Japan, I recently found out about a really cool looking Samurai action game called Hissatsu. I'd like to find that one too, but I haven't even been able to find a used copy of it so far. I hope that it isn't as expensive as Taroumaru. I understand that it's very rare, so of course that sucks because I want Taroumaru too, but I can't even touch that yet.

Anyhow, I can't play most of these types of games for shit myself, since I can't read any Japanese, but I just like to collect them because few people seem to bother with them because of the language barrier. So I get them more for their obscurity than anything, but I do try to play them, and I do hope to learn how to read the language so I can play them better someday.

Plus, sometimes I luck out and I can actually play them pretty well without knowing the language. I just wish that at least their menu buttons and all their commands were translated as thoroughly as all the RPG's and SRPG's. I can do without knowing their stories, but I need to know their commands. I never know what I'm doing, I just press buttons and try to keep them going.

That works pretty well for Godzilla, but it doesn't work for shit for the more complex games, like Master of Monsters. And with trial and error, it's hard to be sure that you're guessing what each command is for correctly sometimes. I could be saving all of my games or I could be erasing all of my saved games, and never know which one it is until it's too late. So I hate having to guess.

I have not seen that game, but here is what my list calls it.

T-15030G - TENGASEIHA - Imagineer

I do the trial and error thing too. I will still try (pretty much) any game and if I can't figure it out... oh well.

Here is the other one:

T-23402G - HISSATSU! - BANDAI VISUAL

Hey, thanks for all the help! Can you find a number for Warriors of Fate? I've been looking for that one for a long time too, but it very rarely shows up, even used. So I'm afraid that if I ever find it, it's gonna be as expensive as the D&D Collection is, if not even more so. Capcom games tend to cost alot!

OMG, did I almost overpay like a bitch for this game! Today I found another seller who had a new copy of this game too, and he only wanted $20 plus shipping for it! So I asked the other guy that I was gonna buy it from if I could drop it off my order, and thankfully he said no problem, and he only charged me a small restocking fee for dropping it. I'm so glad that I hadn't paid him for it yet! He probably would've given me a refund on it anyway though. Anyhow, I'm gonna have to be more careful about buying games that I'm not familiar with the value of, especially from that guy! I knew that some of his games were marked up a bit too high, but most of his stuff is very reasonably priced, so I figured that his price on this game was alright. But man did I ever have a fit when I saw what the other seller was asking for it! I'm glad that this seller is so nice to deal with. Now I'm getting this game and 3 other games from the other seller for about the same price! I still can't believe there's such a massive variation in the price on it though. And yes, I did check to make sure it's not a variation, it's the same game!

You do have to look around with some prices. They can vary quite a bit from what I've seen over the years.

Yeah I know, and apparently I need to control my excitement when I find something that I've never seen before! Something told me that I should wait a while before I jumped all over that game, now I know why! I'm such a hopeless addict now... but I'll be getting ALOT of new import games soon!

:D

Nomeaz1 had nearly a complete collection before he moved to the states last year. Talk about awe inspiring. Here is what he has now.

OMG, I'm gonna be ill! Talk about eye candy! X_x I wanna know what all the import box sets are. Some of them look like quadruple jewel cases instead of double jewel cases! Are all those limited edition sets, or just regular releases? It would be cool to go for all the premium sets, if you could afford to do it!

As for me, I seriously doubt that I'll ever have that many imports. I'm really only interested in games that were never released in the states, and then mostly only shmups, pinballs, RPG's/SRPG's, racers, fighters, platformers, & simulations. I already have all the pinballs, except Last Gladiators 9.7, and I'm doing very well on collecting everything else so far. I have at least half of the shmups, racers, & RPG's/SRPG's that I want, but I don't have any of the platformers, and only one of the fighters. I have a couple of puzzlers also, but I'm trying to limit myself on those alot, because I know there's tons of them, and if I get anymore, I'll have to get them all. That's why I still don't have anymore fighters too. I've also been delaying getting any platformers on purpose, because I want Keio 2 the worst, and I can't afford it yet even if I could find a new copy of it. Plus most of the other ones aren't real cheap either, and I still haven't been able to find some of them new/sealed either.

So all that should save me alot of money, and save me from falling into the trap of getting way too many too. I won't get any dating sims, mahjongs, or hentais, so that cuts out half of all the Japan releases right there. I might get Steam Hearts, but that's it for hentais. I won't get any long running series of RPG's either, and I really won't get many RPG's at all anyway. My interest is more in SRPG's, so that reduces a great deal of major expenses. I also won't get into other long running series like Gundam or Macross, if I can avoid it. I'd really like to, but I won't even try until I have everything else I want. So shmups and simulations are my major expenses. Shmups mostly because the ones that I want cost so much, and simulations mostly because there's so many of them. I have no intentions of getting all the shmups, but I would like to get all the simulations, and all the SRPG's. I'm a strategy nut! It would be cool to get all the racers and fighters too, but I doubt that I will.

I have 25 games left on my import wishlist right now, after my latest buying spree, but it's not a complete wishlist, just the ones I want the worst. And most of the ones on that list are triple digits or very rare, so it'll be quite a while before I have that list completely whittled down and ready for more.

COOL! I just found a new copy of Tenga Seiha for cheap! And from the same seller even! So it will be arriving with this game! Now if only he had the rest of all the games on my wishlist! He sure has helped me check off alot of them!

Well, my shipment finally arrived, and The Great Adventure is definitely an RPG. It's also definitely a clone of Uncharted Waters too. It has nice big characters though, so it looks alot better than the old 16BIT versions of this sort of game.

You start off in your home port, have an audience with the queen there, etc. I had no idea what I was doing in all the shops and stuff, as far as figuring out what I was looking at buying, so I didn't buy anything yet. I could tell what most of the shops were, but not all of them. There seem to be a few things in this game that aren't exactly typical.

Anyhow, I wanted to see more of the world, so I hopped in my ship and off I went. Sailing is easy enough to figure out, you just press a button to raise the sails and steer. I assume from the screenshots that at some point you'll have a whole fleet of ships to sail the high seas in various formations, and you'll encounter enemy ships and fleets to do battle with. But I wasn't ready to go looking for trouble on the high seas yet, I wanted to explore a new country.

So, I sailed north and before long I noticed a dark tower that looked like bad news, and decided to dock there so I could investigate it further. Sure enough, I was greeted by what appeared to be some sort of baby dragon or similar monster, and he made a nice feast of me pretty quick. LOL

So that was my great adventure so far, I got eaten by a baby dragon. I would hope that there's a translation of this one out there somewhere, or at least a walkthrough for it, but who knows. All I know is, I can't read Japanese, so all I can do is guess my way around. But it looks like a pretty cool RPG, for those of you who can read Japanese, and get into RPG's. Oh yeah, it has pretty nice combat sequences in it too, fighting the dragon or whatever it was took place in a kind of first person view, and he lunged forward at me to bite me when he attacked. I kinda enjoyed getting eaten!

Well, I guess I'd better end my "review" of it here for now, before this thread gets moved to the pub. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of game that Tenga Seiha is though. It seems to be some sort of strategic historical simulation of Nobunaga's conquests, but it's not like any of the other Nobunaga games that I've played, so I'm not sure if it's actually something else or if it's just done a different way.
