I am playing it on the Magic Engine and for some reason the game freezes just as I am about to be let into Darm tower by the thief leader. He says to me good luck, and then the game just freezes? Any idea why this happens?
When I say freezes, it's not like the game jams up and the music starts repeating or anything, it's just that the game stays in that screen. The music continues to play fine, but there is no response to controls.

I don't know if this post is by you, or this is someone else having the same problem, but this may help you. http://rigg.arrowsmash.com/mb/ikonboard.cgi?s=46bb5c3b4af47c0339fb1791315e7537;a ct=ST;f=7;t=172;&#top

It's not the best solution, but maybe you can enter a password to bypass that part.

Yeah, I put in a password to bypass the scene, but it pisses me off, because the password starts me off with WAY less experience and I am missing some equipment. I guess I can't be too picky when playing such an old game.
How in the world can a game with no sound effects (the music rocks though) be so good?

Huh? Ys Book 1 & 2 has sound effects. Are you playing a ripped disc image or something?

Better yet he should get a Turbo Duo R.
No offense but i find those.... emulators for the TG16/PCE games picky to run.

The only good emulators for the TG/PCE require a registration fee, which is kind of lame. There's only a couple other than Magic Engine, and they don't work too well. A few years ago there was a registered ME floating around, but it's outdated, and it freaked out in the scrolling levels of Military Madness, so I stopped using it.

I guess there is something wrong with the CD image, I don't know. All I hear is the music. When I am in town, there is no sound whatsoever. When I am running into enemies, I hear no sound. When the girl plays her harmonica for me, I heard nothing, so I assume ther are no noises, which I find weird.
Like I said, I guess I can't be too picky.

Yeah, your problem is most likely due to using the emulated Magic Card System. That's why it crashes and there aren't any sound effects.
http://rigg.arrowsmash.com/software/SYSCARDS.rar
Inside that rar I have the real system cards. Just extract that in the same folder as the pce.exe and next time you boot a CD within ME, you'll have access to the system cards in the menu. (Assuming you haven't already figured this out.) Always boot with the real ones, and never with the emulated. I've been trying to get the author of the emulator to at least inform end-users of the instability of his emulated card versions, so hopefully he'll let ppl know enough that they're WIP to avoid these kinds of issues.

The problem was fixed when I switched to the system card not being used. I was using the magic system card. Thanks for the heads up there NIGHTWOLVE!
EVerything is running smooth. Can't believe I was playing the game the way I was. Totally different feel. Still awesome.
