to best enjoy/understand the story how would you play the RE games?

I know sort of a silly question...but I want to make sure since they didn't come out in the right order.

Im guessing

0,1,2,3,4 ...and where does code veronica go?

and what about the shooter PS1 games...and any other titles? do you need the m to get the best understanding of the RE story?

EDIT:
Also is that special boxset still avalible? and what games are in it? and ( i know so many questions) does anyone know if they are thinking of creating boxsets for the other titles?

RE0 ====> RE1 ====> RECV ====> RE4

abd RE2 is somewhere before RE1 but after RE0...
also RE3 is about the same time as RE1 or maybe a day or two later...

cheers

IF you want to play them in story order it goes like this:

1. Resident Evil 0
2. Resident Evil
3. Resident Evil 2
4. Resident Evil 3
5. Resident Evil Code Veronica
6. Resident Evil 4

in my book the best video game series of all time.

So everyone agrees with that order?

0 - 2 - 1 - 3 - CV - 4

or as someone else said

0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - CV - 4

From what Im recall...

Resident Evil Zero
--which brings Bravo team to the Mountain area near the Spencer Mansion
Resident Evil
--Alpha team goes to investigate the hills in search of Bravo Team
Resident Evil 2
--Claire and Leon are out and about in Raccoon City
Resident Evil 3--Occurs at about the same time as RE2--A version of Mr. X is present in both games
Resident Evil-Survivor
--A character from it is referenced in Code Veronica
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil 4

RE2 takes place just before RE1 and RE3 is about the same time as RE2/1...
RECV is much later and RE4 again further down the track...

I've been told by many RE fanatics to go in the order they were released for the full effect.

Now I on the other hand already ruined that. I just played and beat 4. Never played a RE previously. Oh well, now i'm backtracking.

RE2 takes place some two months after the original, as evidenced by the massive number of references to the mansion incident and the disappearance of the original cast.

RE3 takes place 24 hours before, and 24 hours after RE2

what about RE: Outbreak?

it has levels from 1 to 3, but it doesn't really go with the story line

I would suggest these 3 as they are the best in my opinion
REmake on GC
RE:Code Veronica on DC or PS2 (code veronica reveals much about the family behind umbrella and ties up a few loose ends etc and has the best storyline in the whole series, well now CV and RE4)
and of course part 4 on GC, PS2? cause it kicks so much a$$ ;)

also Steve is right it goes:
REO
RE1
RE2
RE3 (wich does take place before AND right after part 2)
RE:Code Veronica (wich does take place a while after part 3 but directly ties in with both 1@2)
RE4

I thought part 4 was excellent but I really wanted to see what happened when Chris and Claire Redfield (and Jill?) went to Paris to umbrellas HQ to finally end the whole Umbrella storyline.
Oh well part 4 turned out excellent anyways :D
