It finally arrived today! It came with a cool box to hold all 5 PS2 Ys games (Only 1.2, 3, and 6 are out at this time, 4 and 5 coming soon!), a 6 track soundtrack CD, and a small history of Ys III artbook. I agree with just about everything this person said:
The graphics are pretty good and the actual gameplay has been totally revamped to make the actual game playable. Adol no longer twirls his sword in circles as he moves and enemies will actually stun/move back when you hit them. Boss battles are actually good now. Instead of just running up and twirling your sword over a boss and hoping you kill it before it kills you, you can dodge and attack like any self respecting side-scrolling adventure game.
However, there are some things that just don't make sense. The lack of scrolling; (SOME areas do scroll, some don't.. it makes no sense and is really stupid). Redmont being split into "sections" is also a strange. The music is poor, I won't even try to sugar coat it. I guess it's better than the Genesis or SNES versions.. but after JUST playing the PC-Engine version and hearing the level of quality in the arrangements for Ys I & II Eternal and the new music for Ys VI, this really just hurts. It's all ugly synth. Ugly, ugly, ugly. While I can't confirm it myself, apparently the only thing added was a boss rush mode, so the game will probably take 4 hours to finish, maybe 5 if you.. um.. no, I guess not.. 4 hours it is.
It took me 2 hours to beat the entire game, but I will be coming back to it again and again.
