View Full Version : Who's going to Philly Classic (and other questions)?

Who's going to Philly Classic this year?

I am. And I already bought a table.

Do I need to rent a car? Should I stay at the <<expensive $99/night>> Valley Forge Radison? Are there other reasonable nearby hotels I should look at (walking distance?)

How far is Philly from Pompton Lakes?

I've been to every PC so far, and don't plan on missing this one. I haven't stayed there, but speaking for everything except the rooms, the Radisson seems very nice.

I think the trip last year was about 90 minutes from West Orange give or take 30 minutes. From Pompton Lakes add about 30 minutes on to that.

Ian, you already bought your table? Willie & I were wondering about that.. I'm sure David will let us get tables next to eachother so we can take turns watching them..
Last year we stayed at the Sleep Inn just down the road, and I know it was just under a mile away; it saved us quite a bit of money. I don't know about this year, but last year rooms AT the same hotel as the convention went fast (there were a couple other conventions being held there the same weekend), and the prices were super-steep for the ones that were left (which were mostly the "theme" rooms).
I think we'll probably be at the Sleep Inn again this year; especially since we'll be there one night xtra (now that PhillyClassic is three days), we can use the savings.

Anyway, here are some links!
Philly Classic "official" webpage: http://www.phillyclassic.com
Valley Forge Directory (ie find hotels, restaurants, etc in the area): http://www.valleyforge.org/VfDirectoryCliList.asp?MajCode=ACCOM&MinCode=HOTL%2FMOTL

Oh and.. this is actually in King of Prussia, and not Philly :D

I'd really like to go, I'd have to find transportation though. Even if I could drive, my car could never make that trip.

There are good chances i'll be there once again with SLYDC and Lady Jaye and some others CCJVQ members but still no confirmation at this time.

I'm going, that's for sure, for all 3 days. Taking off the Friday and getting an early start. :) Bringing a bucketload of cash (at least $1500) so me = buying stuff. (I hope Tomorrow's Heroes is back with their NES boxes....mmmm). I haven't decided if I'm going to stay because:

P. Lakes to Valley Forge is about an hour and a half, give or take. I took Route 1 to PA to ... something else that leads right into VF. May be a quicker way, but it was the way I know. Basically go south from Pompton Lakes, and then get around Trenton, and go west.

I may stay, or not. I've never had a problem with driving, even late. I'll probably decide this month.

i'll be back and renting a table with some other NECG people...a trade only table, imagine that!

you will need some sort of car, the conference center is in the middle of nowhere. a vast parking lot devoid of anything interesting besides the show itself. for some reason it smells like cow crap, although i never saw any livestock. even with the show going on i got stir crazy and had to go to that mega mall down the road aways, mostly because there was no place to eat.

I was actually curious about the smell last year myself - I don't remember how I found out, but supposedly the landscaping for the hotel/convention center had just been fertilized the weekend we were there last year!

Not lost, just everything was poorly labeled because of the construction. My sense of direction has gotten better... seriously :D

I'm going to try and get there...since CGE still seems like it is out of reach (I will not fly, and 24 hours in a car to Las Vegas does not sound like fun to me...) Philly is just 8 hours away...semi-manageable there

The newbie will be there for his first show! :D

Could you guys give me some idea as to what will be for sale and pricing? Maybe I should be more specific on that pricing question...I'm talking in comparison to what things go for on eBay. Should I expect to pay about the same? I'm looking to pick up lots of Sega CD stuff, and some common 2600 carts...will I see 3DO stuff there also?

Can you tell I'm excited about going? :-D

I will probably go. To be honest I'm feeling burned out of gaming completely right now. But as the date approaches I'll no doubt want to go.

for some reason it smells like cow crap

Oh yeah!

I remember that ! the first time we get in the parking lot the smell was awful.

SLYDC and i got a room at the Motel 6 for 60$ and we where about a mile from the show. I think we will go there this year, we saved lot of $ that way.

And for getting a table next to you guys and girls (Jaime, Christian, Ian) that would be a very cool idea.

I think this topic should be a "sticky" one (even if the show is in 3 months)

@UZPlayer - I actually came up with the name tags, & I thought they were a really good idea! Why didn't you like them?

In an unrelated note - I am planning on going all weekend. Last week I had an opportunity to eat at Maggiano's in Atlanta, GA. It is an excellent Italian restaurant. I just finished my leftovers (they have huge portions), and it was so good I was wishing I could go again. It turns out the restaurant is a chain, and they have one in King of Prussia, PA! I think King of Prussia is where PC4 is held.

Leading to the obvious question:
Would any of you possibly be interested in getting together to go there for a late dinner one night after PhillyClassic?

Hmm.. maybe we can take over the forum de jour with this discussion for a bit!
We all certainly need to make plans to meet up again this year :) I vote for a bigger bar than the one in the hotel *lol*

I'm definitely in for the trip this year. I almost went to last year's last minute with a couple of guys from down here in Cincy whom help with the Cinciclassic show, but I decided not to ... and I definitely wish I did. If anyone wants to go in on carpooling or sharing expenses from around here, I'm game since I'm sure some of the Cinciclassic crew will want to make the trip.

Doubt I'll get a table, but I still want to make the trip and hang out for a weekend no doubt, and even see some people I've known on the online forums like uz.

Hmm.. here's a question, can someone answer it for me?
When searching for local hotel info, etc, I come across TWO hotel listings for the convention center..
The first one is: http://www.radisson.com/kingofprussiapa for the Radisson, ULTRA expensive.
The second is for: http://www.scanticonvalleyforge.com/ the Scantion? From the addresses, it looks like the two are right next door? Most of the links are dead on the second, except for the convention center, which, strangely, takes you to the first link.. was this the old name of the hotel maybe?

Here are some other nearby hotels, links, & info:

Gezz...already talking about the PhilyClassic ? Heh, heh, heh...

Like Sniper000_2000 said, we (me, him and Lady Jaye) should be there but i don't think we'll stay for sunday since most of us works
on monday and we have at least a 9 hours drive (me it's 12 hours)
just to get to the PhillyClassic.

Some of the C.C.J.V.Q. members will be discussing this in 4 days
since we have a club's meeting near Quebec City this coming saturday.

And yeah, POG is right, hope will have a bigger bar next time, need
some booze for getting a good night sleep LOL!!! And the worst
thing is i will need a van for all the stuff i'll bring to trade or sell, and
i mean it since i'll be getting rid-off 3/4 of my collection very soon.

Hope i'll not have any problems with the border...isssshhhh.....

I have never heard of the Scantion. However, any of those others are good, pretty much any with K of P address will be within minutes of the VFCC. Depending on when and where you'll be, I might be able to hook people up with rides to the center when I come in in the mornings.

I of course will be staying at a nice, out of the way little place called "Mark's Mommy's House". I hear the cooking's good ;)

punkoffgirl
01-01-2003, 09:01 PM
Oh, I'm not worried about rides :) We're driving down from Maine, so we'll have a car with us, and we'll probably be staying at the Sleep Inn again like last year. Much better prices, and it's just down the road a bit.

It's likely that I'll be finding my way there this year....probably only for one day though....just drive over, do what I have to do, drive home. With any luck I'll still get to meet some DPers though!
