New England beat Miami, Cleveland beat Atlanta, and New York beat Green Bay (badly). In addition to those gratifying victories, this just came in the mail today.

I'm pleased to announce that it will go to the grave with me. However, I was wondering if anyone owned the cart version. Yeah, it does fetch no less than four, whole digit sums but I know someone here on these boards owns this in cart format... right?

Close but not quite, I have Slug X and 3 home carts. I had the US CD version a while ago and I still have the MVS kit of it. Someday....

Great series but my personal fav is X

I must say that Metal Slug 3 doesn't get much respect from me. If the opportunity arose that I could buy it for $50 or less, I'd take it. But other than that, I find myself leaving the game alone.

The previous games (especially the first one) had more in the area of military action. The second game (and its enhanced version called 'X') had a military action feel until... people started turning into mummies... and the boss started collaborating with extra terrestrials. Although 2 and X are great games, I was hoping the third Metal Slug would retreat back to the military mayhem that the first one brought us. Instead, SNK pushed the envelope of the second game. The result was a list of enemies that basically killed the series. Among the list of ridiculous enemies were giant crabs, giant hornets, giant eels, sasquatches, robots, humanoids, and more damned aliens. There's also a little matter of riding elephants, ostriches, and camels with automatic machine guns strapped to them. Yeah, there's still enemy soldiers in the game, but to me, all they do is make my brain homesick for the glory that was Metal Slug.

Some people might like the change. To see the series go from military to science fiction may have a lasting appeal to some gamers. But the Metal Slug series appears to have taken a trip downhill (IMO). The best thing that SNK could've done was go back to the basics of the first Metal Slug and incorporate the nifty ideas of games 2 and 3 (flying slug, and multiple paths) into a newer fresher game. I haven't yet played the fourth game... because I'm scared.

Metal Slug 4 was very military oriented. The nearby arcade has it ;p
