Well, guys I am out in Hawaii on dialup (ack). I was wondering what are your thoughts on Salvation Army stores?! There's on about 8 miles down the road I might goto. Do they just do clothes or is it like a Goodwill store?!

I also have plans to visit two Goodwill stores I found. My Mom's Husband said he'd take me, but I have a feeling his mood changed. He was giving me crap about how the Salvation Army store is 8 miles in the direction we don't need to go. :(

If that's the case they can forget me going on the horseback riding trip with them. I didn't even want to do that anyway. I don't wanna end up like Superman!

I'd post pictures and I have puhlenty, but this dialup is brutal and I have no software on this old laptop to resize images, so I am not about to upload 20 megs of pics.

Will check in more later... aloha.

I've heard stories about Salvation Arsmy stores getting greedy, so you may want to hold off, but anyway, YOU'RE IN HAWAII. Enjoy it, when i went it was one of the best 10 days of my life.

I would want to add Hawaii to my "states that I have been thrift store shopping in" list.

If you find a game and it's a buck extra, you can say you got it in Hawaii!

Good point. I'd walk the 8 miles if they won't take you ;). And if they have a game, buy it no matter what it is, as long as the price isn't outrageous or anything. But then again, with games maybe $2 apiece at SA, I'd pick up Duck Hunt just to say I got it in Hawaii.

Enjoy your time there, I really want to go sometime :)

buy T&C surf and then play it in the room all vacation never going outdoors just for the irony factor.

I am glad that while in Hawaii you are thinking about what's important--video games, not beaches and sunlight. The best vacations consist of rumaging through unfamiliar thrift stores and flea markets. :)

Good luck, hopefully you can get there.

Okay, well first off the reason I am on DP right now and not out drinking or partying because that was the other night. :) We're here to buy a house. So, our first night was in Kona on the other side of the island. We stayed right in town near all the shops in stuff. I went out drinking at night. Got a lot of nice pics in the day.

Then we went here to Hamokaa or something like there. We're about 10 miles away from there. We rented the Cliff House. Amazing house right on the cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean! I think it's http://www.cliffhousehawaii.com -- we got the one on the cliff, not the ones in back. This guy owns a lot of property and a store in town. He used to live in Brooklyn. Everyone here is really nice.

It's 8 miles to down and nothing is there, so not worth going there 'cept for the Salvation Army.

We went horseback riding today.. amazing going down to the Wai'pio Valley. Only 4x4 vehicles can go down and you go down 1000 feet in less than a mile! Vehicles going up the mountain have the right of way as they can't stop! Need all the power to get up. Our tour guide was amazingly hot! Man oh man! She was born down in the valley and they have no power down there. Amazing! At one point it was the most populated spot on the island, but people moved in search of an easier way of life.

Anyway, back on to my task at hand. I didn't get to the Salvation Army store. We drove down town.. he fully knew I wanted to stop because I said I wanted to stop there for weeks now ever since I was out in New Jersey. So we were down overlooking that Wai'pio valley and I was bargaining with a guy to buy a custom made bamboo flute and they were yelling at me to come on. I said listen, you don't stop anywhere I want to go so scew you LOL!

Hopefully I'll get to the Goodwill stores. I might call Salvation Army in the morn and ask about games. If any of you want to hear a HILARIOUS story of what I did, although I don't know if it's totally clean for this forum PM me. It's really a funny way I got back at my ex-boss when I worked at Circuit City. I sent her a postcard from Hawaii and will share with you I wrote on it. Just PM me. :)

Since I'm in Hawaii. I thought I'd better post something. I have just finished my drinking(no froo froo drinks). I remember you talking about moving here. The Big Island(where you are at), is a wonderful place. Mountains, Oceans, Rainforests, Deserts, Snow all on one Island. Unfortunately not much videogame stores. Especially Kona side. But it looks like you are going in the right direction hitting them goodwills and S-army stores. Are you stopping in Honolulu at all?

Hi guys! More reports from Hawaii and some pics. :)

First off, we stopped in Honolulu. But that was only in the airport when we originally flew in. You can fly in direct to Hilo one flight, but it's $600 more per person. Times that by 4 people and that's a lot of money. So, we flew to Phoenix, then Honolulu, then Kona.

Second, it's a good thing I didn't walk 8 miles down the road to that Salvation Army place. We finally went there and they were closed! I got to look in the window and saw a lot of clothes, but also saw a TV so there might have been some stuff. :( The shop was very small.

We just drove from that section of the island (near Wai'pio Valley and Hohokaa -- not sure if that is the name or spelling exactly). Right now we're near Hilo in HPP (Hawiian Paradise Park) staying at Mango Bay. 3 bedroom house we rented for like 9 days or so.

When we went down into Hilo to visit the realator we stopped for lunch first. I purposely only ordered french fries so I would have time to go walk since I saw another Salvation Army store on the way in only a few blocks away.

So, the first shop I stopped in was a Thrift/Pawn shop. They had 4 Gamecubes with 2 controllers.. $60/each and a stack of games. Nothing really caught my eye since I wanted older stuff.

I walked past the Pink Elephant thrift store. Was all clothes far as I can tell and I didn't even want to go in the store.

The Salvation Army I found some goodies:

I got Pac-Man for $1. I am going to turn it into either a mini-guitar amp if I can fit a Smokey Amp inside, or a 4-Port USB hub.

The other looks like a Game Genie for Gameboy I got for 50 cents. It's going to be for sale to some lucky person here for 50 cents plus shipping when I get back.

Got this Game Shark for Nintendo 64 for $1. It'll be for sale when I get back.

Also got Phantom Fighter for Nintendo for $1. It'll also be for sale when I get back.

They also had some beat up SNES's (2 of them). They had no price and I wasn't about to ask. One was pee yellow color/old computer case yellow color. They also had some big joystick for $15, no clue what system it was for. I was on a time limit here. I had only 10 minutes.

The last image above is a game system I found in the local KTA supermarket. They had one with 60 games built in for $32.99 and this one had 72 games built in for $39.99. It has a two joysticks, a light gun, and a fishing reel. No cartridge slot built in. :( The reason I got it, though, because it didn't have the standard Power Joy games built in. All the pictures on the box look original and so do the screenshots. It's website is http://www.dreamgear.net

Hopefully later this week he holds up his promise and takes me to the other two thrift shops I found in the area. One I Google'd and says this place has video games, the other is Goodwill.

I'll keep you posted because so far he's been a real D*CK to me everyday and I didn't do anything wrong.

First impressions of the 72 in 1... all the games suck!

Some of the music I know I've heard in other NES games. I've only tried a few of the games, but some of them are the same game just different graphics. All the games have title screens, which makes you thik the game might be cool.

There's a Super Mario like game where you are a Kangaroo shooting enemies, I can get to the end of the first level, but the door is locked. I can't go up and down in the game and I think you need to because there are ladders and trees to climb. Not to mention a treasure chest up top.

I played this one game Cub Adventure. You are a little cub walking around on ice. There's seals that walk around really slow in a pre-defined pattern and a bear that moves faster in his pre-defined pattern. You have to collect these brown things on the ground and onTce you do a propeller will come out. Grab the propeller to fly off to the next level. Too bad there's only 3 levels and the game is over. The ending says "END" and that's it.

There's another game that reminds me of a flash game I've played online. You're a mouse on a cloud and must jump up to the next cloud. That's it. Miss the cloud, lose a life. Simple, stupid, and not entertaining.

I played one game that used the gun. Looked pretty cool. Barroom Shootout. Looks a bit like the bottom portion of the screen was borrowed from Hogan's Alley with the top graphics changed. There's gangsters coming out from behind couches, bars, etc. I didn't play for too long.

The annoying thing is that when you reset the system you have to watch two intro screens everytime. They're not long, but still 3-4 seconds wait is annoying.

Music in games and intro screens are usually short loops repeating. Sound effects are crap. The fishing part of the joystick gets in the way, but I learned to deal with it and it's not too bothersome depending on how you hold the joystick.

I'll have a complete rundown of the games when I get back home..

Well guys found a good deal today. Went to the mall.. sorry I don't know the spelling of it.. Prince Pahalo or some crap like that. It's on Route 11 just south of the Hilo Airport. It's the biggest mall on the island that's indoors I think.

Anyway, KB Toys inside has those joystick games buy one get another for 50% off! I don't know if all KB's have them or just this one. All of them had clearance stickers too.

The Commodore 64 was $17.99, the Intellivision was $9.99, and they had the Casino Poker, Pac-Man Mini, Spongebob, Batman, Ms. Pac-Man, and maybe more I forget. I do remember the Commodore one was normally $29.99.

I picked up Commodore and Intellivison for like $23.
