I got a PSP today from my girlfriend. She bought me a DS for Christmas, but I took it back (with her permission, of course :) ), because nothing on it interests me. I wasn't sure if I should keep the PSP either, but after reading some encouraging posts on here, I decided to bust it out. Man, am I glad I did.
So far, I've:
1. Bought PSPWare (http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/pspware), a great utility for Mac users to sync photos, music, and movies (it even changes the aspect ratio automatically!) using the iApps and their interfaces.
2. Watched some movies I took with my digital camera at a TMBG show :D
3. Watched the game demo UMD @_@
3. Am in the process of ripping some DS9 episodes and shopping around for a bigger Memory Stick.
Maybe tomorrow I'll get a game for it LOL
Nintendo is not going to win this war.

That's why I have not bought Lumines yet, I'm loving PURE so much and I don't want to ruin it. Plus, I';; never beat RE4 if I buy Lumines now. LOL
Funny thing about this PSP and all of the bullshit surrounding it.
I got my first out-of-the-box look at one yesterday. Up until now I had only looked at the outer box of one. The local game shop had one opened. I was asked to take a look at this particular PSP and tell them what I thought.
I admired it's physical beauty then fired it up and watched a few minutes of the Spiderman movie. The picture quality was amazing and the sound was better than any handheld that I'd previously seen. I was impressed.
"That unit was returned to me by a customer last night. He claimed that it was unplayable. It has 3 dead pixels. I had to give him another one."
Unplayable, my ass. Looks like someone's spent a wee bit too much time on sites that are taking great delight in bashing this machine and it's "flaws". We went into the back room and fired it up in the dark. I was shown the 3 dead pixels. Each was smaller than a pin point and barely visible. It made NO detraction in the way the system delivered the image to the screen. If I hadn't of been told about the dead pixels I'd have never known. I asked him about the "flying ejected discs" that were apparently another issue. He showed me. I swear that the disc must have flown at least a half inch across the room. He could have taken my head off. Dangerous to say the least.
If these dead pixels are enough of a flaw to warrant returning unit after unit then people need their heads examined. I can hardly wait to own one of these things and as soon as finances allow it I'm buying one.....dead pixels and all.

No, not really. If I am paying such high $$$, I want my PSP to be PERFECT. Why the hell and settle for less. I don't have that much money, and if I am going to spend it in such a matter, it better be perfect.
I mean I get what your saying about people complaining about the smallest things, but in this case I feel their better be no dead pixels, otherwise it gets a return.

Because, of course, NintendoMan has a completely impartial opinion when it comes to the DS vs. PSP, right? LOL

acording to Sony the "dead Pixels" are "suposed" to be there. This came from an e-mail from sony the day after the system launched. It also said that if somebody came in with one complaining about it, not to return the machine and let them know about the e-mail.
Sony's idea for saying we make shit products? you make the call. I am not saying the PSP is shit by any means but they have a bad track record of having defective products. Look at the PS2.

If you want to talk about dead pixels, please dig up one of the 187268548154581264 other topics on the subject.

Some people just got used to get shitty product and do not seem to care anymore... that's to bad. As for me when I pay a good chunk of money on something I expect the thing not to be defective out of the box.
But people (especially gamers) are getting used to buy unfinished, unpolished games still full off bugs becasue a street date had to be met - sorry but it does not work that way with me.
When I sell a defective item to my customers they always return it to me and I don't balme them, we just had to do our job at the manufacture right.
You should not expect anything less than perfection out of the box for a brand new item within that price range - the only thing that I "accept" to not be perfect are used items or items I buy at a $0.99 store.

Everybody keeps talking about this E-mail from Sony that states they will not take back PSP's. But from all the board members here that have got dead pixels, I have yet to read about one person who was not allowed to return their unit for a new one. I beleive that the E-mail might be true, but I am thinking it is out there just to scare some people into keeping their PSP's with dead pixels. If you tell most gamers that they will have to wait 2 weeks to get their new machine back, they will just live with the dead pixel. And most of the people who Say sony is not taking back the PSP's, are people who say they are not going to buy one. If someone on this board did buy a PSP and was not allowed to return it please let me know. Because I plan on getting one and I would like to know what stores are not acecpting returns.

Actually, the Gamerush I got my PSP from won't let me return it. I did return 2 others on launch day though before they told me I couldn't return anymore. I think it's because they didn't know what was going on though and didn't know how to handle the situation. Might be different now.

I actually took Lumines out of my system last night after my post and put Wipeout Pure back in. Man that game is sweet, too. It's better if you play it in really low light, then the awsome graphics really shine.
And, I have a dead pixel on my creen. And you know what? I don't give a fuuuuu.....
It is less than the size of the head of a pin and I have to sit there and look for it in order to find it. I understand being anal and wanting perfection, but this REALLY doesnt matter. Pieces of dust that get on the screen are way bigger than a dead pixel.

I got mine at Future Shop ( Best Buy ) here in Canada.
I had to go thru about 6 PsP's before I found one without any dead pixels / other damage.
My hint to you , is don't actually leave the store until you checked out the screen , the battery comes slightly precharged so its easy to open up and check everything out before heading home with it.
