State of Emergency is the game that they made in order to grab a couple bucks from people who really like Rockstar. Honestly, I just rented it and got tired of it in around 20 minutes. Rockstar's made some good games, but this isn't one of them.

It should have been a bad arcade game... just put in a quarter and play for 5 minutes. Maybe another quarter. It's not worth more than 50 cents.

I bought it the day it came out, a few years back... what a mistake.

O_O eeech doesn't sound good at all, I kinda like crappy games (but I destest games that have poor gameplay elements), what are the beatemup elements like?

will anybody stand up and defend it's honour? They're busy making a sequel as we speak O_O

It's problem is that it's just bland. Play for five minutes, smack some people with a board, shoot some people, break some windows, and congratulations, you've done everything there is to do in the game.

Sounds to me like you're looking for someone - ANYONE - to convince you to buy it. If you've made your mind up, go for it by all means. But a search here, there, everywhere should convince you that there aren't a lot of supporters of this crapfest.

I remember Joe (digitalpress himself) describing it as follows:

"It's fascinating for the first few minutes as you watch all of the farkwits running around. Then it dawns on you - you're one of those farkwits."

I bought it. Played it for an hour. Sold it on eBay for $5 within the week. Will not own it again. Waste of time. Waste of money. Do not bother.

Is this the game that one of the first stages was a mall? If so, I had a blast playing this at a friends house. I thought it was great mindless fun. If I found it for $5 or less I would probably buy it.

It's not great, but I do enjoy having it available as a 'throw into the machine and play for half an hour' game. It is genuinely entertaining for a half an hour or so, if you like that kind of thing.

Given that you can pretty certainly pick it up for next to nothing, then I would say go for it .. it's not like you're going to be handing over a fortune.

Damn it is pretty cheap and the last one I think I'll buy if I don't like it I'll sell it and then I would have paid even less for it?

Comes with serious sam gold too I don't think that's much different from serious sam? If only it were 2 then It would be an easy buy, I think I'll take the plunge...

it's about 25 dollars for both, but games are expensive in my country so that's about right...

i think it is a fun little game.its mindless fun.the game does get old fast, but you should be able to get a complete copy for under 7 dollars, and its worth that.i still have a copy,i hardly ever play it,but i still have it.its worth having around for a few laughs.

If your gonna get a copy get the XBox version as it mas the 4 player mode that the PS2's didn't and the 4-player is the most fun part of the game imho it's definatly the type of game you play when you get in late with a group of friends and just want mindless fun.

Three people so far have said "mindless fun" -- key phrase for this game. Once the novelty of knocking people's heads off, picking up the heads and beating people with them wears off, the game itself isn't that deep. It's a good game to have in your library for when people come over and say, "I don't get what the big deal is with violence in video games."

Considering you can pick one up for 5-10 bucks, I don't know what there is to think about. If you have the slightest inkling that you will enjoy it you don't have much to lose.

If you can get it for less than 10 bucks, you should, but be warned that what everyone says is true.

Rockstar made it to cash in on there own name after the success of Grand Theft Auto 3, they decidied to make it "ultra violent" and slap a red "18 And Over" sticker on front to help it sell. In all reality, the violence isn't any worse than you've already seen, and the game is a lame arcade type setting where you've played for 5 minutes and you've done all there is to do.

I paid 49.99 for it on release day, I beat the mall, got to the second level....realized it was the SAME DAMN THING as the first and stopped playing, it's been on my shelf since, collecting dust.

So does this mean that I am the only person here who played through it and beat it?

I did, and I enjoyed it. It is kind of fun being part of a big ass riot. The codes help the game out to be even more fun. You can put in a code to get tear gas grenades, it is pretty cool.

Sure it can be "mindless fun", but so are many arcade style games that you can play.

Sega Bass Fishing for example. It is a very fun game, but mindless. After the first level, you have already caught bass and if you know where to throw your bait to, have caught a big bass, which means you have done everything that you do in the entire game within about 3-5 minutes.

This is the same example. If you don't care about a story line and like arcade-style games, definately go out and get this, especially if it is cheap. Arcade style games almost always have a story line that makes you want to go sit on the toilet for 10 minutes and "drop some kids off at the pool".

I payed 20 for it, I think, and I thought it was worth it, but than again, I really enjoy fast paced, arcade-style games. If you are in to those types of games, you might as well pick it up, because I will recommend it.

This is the only game I've purchased (since getting back into games) that I've traded back in. It sucked that bad. It was entertaining for like 10 minutes, but after that it got boring. The missions were repetitive and occasionally ridiculously difficult. It's fun throwing grenades into storefronts, but you're better off playing Mechassault if you want to just engage in some random destruction. I will admit that I did buy it again recently ($3 pawn shop), but I haven't touched it and probably won't ever again.

I do believe that the xbox version had a mission mode added, which adds to the gameplay. The custom soundtracks also help greatly, throw on something that make you wanna smash stuff, and then do so. I think the flamethrower is an xbox exclusive as well if you're into burning people.

I used to play this game a lto when i worked at goodwill, since customers were always stupid people trying to be tricky and unload garbage onto us. This made for good therapy after dealing with a group of people.

Dunno, I like it alright, it's not amazing or anything but I think it deserves more credit than most people give it. I also think that most people who bash it bought it new for PS2 when it came out so I can see not liking it there. As a budget xbox title it's perfectly playable.

I actually like the game -- not the mission/story mode, but it is fun to run around blowing crap up.

I'm surprised so many retro-gamers hate it. It's mindless fun, it's repetitive, but so were many of the "classics" of yester-year. And it has a certain brand of mindlessness that is relatively rare in other games. For under $10 (which it is just about anywhere) you can't go wrong if you don't mind cartoonish violence. You're out basically nothing if you hate it. I paid $50 at launch and didn't regret it.

Gauntlet? SMASH TV?

I bought it's okay for a 15min blast, not a standalone game though, and some things are a pain, but it doesn't have plenty of modes and stuff, I played it for about an hour, it seemed alright, but I didn't have great expectations or pay full price so I understand the people who didn't like it.
