This Wednesday's Random Game Generator chose an old favorite (+1) from the Neo-Geo system. The game has seen several sequels since, and the series itself has even found a home on other consoles.

Every play Metal Slug 2? What are your thoughts? Where does it fit in with the rest of the series? What makes "2" stand out? Give us your impressions here!

U.S. Game Releases
Metal Slug 2 (Neo-Geo, by SNK) $600/R9
Developed by SNK. Metal Slug 2 features new weapons, enemies and stages, but the action tends to slow down if the screen filled with too many enemies and bullets. The MVS version of this game (loose) is $60/R4. Action/Platform/Shooter. Released 04/02/98. #241.

Non-U.S. Game Releases
Metal Slug 2 (Neo-Geo, by SNK) $350/R7
Developed by SNK. Action/Platform/Shooter. #241.
CD-ROM Games

Metal Slug 2 (CD) (Neo-Geo, by SNK) $75/R6
Also on cartridge. Action/Platform/Shooter. Released 06/25/98. #241.

I had never heard of Metal Slug before I came to Digital Press. I'm sure I had seen it around before, but I didn't realize it was like the end-all of platform shooters. When I first started coming to DP a few years ago I saw a few threads about Metal Slug and was like, hm, I'll have to keep that in mind. A week or two later I went to a local burger joint and lo-and-behold, in their arcade they have a Metal Slug 2 machine (they also have Great 1000 Miles Rally and Galaga, as well as Barbwire and Pinbot pinball tables; cool place). I pumped a few quarters into it and got my first experience with Metal Slug 2. I really enjoyed the animation sequences and the humor within the game.

Most of my Metal Slug playing these days comes from playing 3 and 4 on the PS2, but I hope to get Metal Slug cart for my MVS cabinet someday.

Stick-o-fied!

I've technically beaten Metal Slug 2, but I technically haven't beaten Metal Slug 2.

Metal Slug 2 I haven't played past the 2nd level, but I've beaten Metal Slug X on the Playstation, which is the same game with slight improvements. Great stuff, great soundtrack (especially the first level) could be the most solid title in the entire Metal Slug series.

While I haven't beaten Metal Slug 2 per se I have beaten X. And I must say it is a glorius game. If for some horribly starnge reason you have not played the metal slug series, get off your duff and find a way to play it.

great scott, 3 and 4 finally hit ps2?
I've been in the dark on current games for a while.
X on psx is great, though. I play a ton of that. I've yet to play a bad platform shooter...

I have Metal Slugs 1,3 and 5 on MVS and enjoy them all. I'm hoping to try Metal Slug 2 soon as it is the only Slug not ported to another console (once 4/5 is released for PS2/Xbox). Metal Slug 3 is my favorite...

I have played X on PSX and it is a good port, but not quite the same as playing the originals...

Great Series, Recommended :) (with the possible exception of Slug 4)

Great game, this one. Improving on the original in more ways than one and creating one of the Neo Geo's best platformers is a commendable effort indeed. It's too bad that Metal Slug X overshadows MS2, but I advise playing both of them to note the differences. One that stands out to me is that MS2 is definitely easier to play. I can do well in MS2, but I get my ass shredded to bits in MSX. :eek 2:

Whichever one you play, you will not be disappointed. :)

Ok, I like X a lot better overall, but MS2 definitely had the better color schemes and boss layouts, IMO.

I played through X and loved it, but I've never actually played 2. Are there any huge differences?

this is the first Slug i ever played and is still in my top 3 for the series. Slug 2 is also the only one i have ever beaten with the normal amount of credits and continues.

X was an "upgrade" to 2. Often different bosses, levels will be night instead of day in some cases, weather differences, I think there are different weapons and vehicles in some cases. Some things in the levels were moved. Overall, just a good attempt at an improvement. Not really sure why they did it, but they are both pretty darn good.

Sweet!!!...METAL SLUG 2..

When I first got my Big Red Cab,the first thing I did was search Ebay for a MVS copy of Metal Slug..I wanted this game BAD!!

I couldn't find one so I bid on a Metal Slug 2 and won it...I played the crap out of that game before I got any other's..
So it basically was my first Metal Slug besides the NGPC version

I haven't played Metal Slug 2 in the longest...(I should)..but Metal Slug has been in the cab for quite some time now..

I've never really played Metal Slug 2 much. The slowdown bugs me. I'd rather just go with X. And while both are great, the original and the third are my favorites.

as for me i agree, metal slug 2 is a decent game, but in my opinion the first is a far more enjoyable experience.
