Well, I had a little accident with my PSP last night. :embarrassed:

I was copying some video clips to it, and I had it sitting on my chair in front of my computer while I was reading. When it finsihed I got up to pick it up, but I knocked it off the chair by accident and it hit the floor.

Mind you, the chair is only a foot or so above a carpeted floor, and I've done the same thing to my Game Boys many times over the years. But this time it must have hit in just the right spot. The On/Off switch broke -- it would still move but it was 'loose' and I could'nt turn the PSP on or off. I had to yank the battery to shut it off, and then I could'nt turn it back on.

So I just got back from Best Buy (where I bought it) and exchanged it for a new one.

I'm pissed also cause my old unit had both the Hori screen on it AND no dead pixels! I got a new Hori screen but I'm not sure yet until it gets dark if I lucked out on my new PSP also.

Well, we knew this thing was going to fragile -- just not in the spot I expected. Everyone, be carefull about dropping it, even a little bit!

I understand, I dont want to bash sony but their products to seem to lack the "quality" factor - especially for a handheld. I have to keep a keen eye on my PS2 most of the time.

I should be getting my PSP sometime in the summer, I expected the similar "fragile" quality as its console counter part the PS2.

Nintendo and even Microsoft know how to make a sturdy machines, the PS3 better get things right - for its own sake.

Heh, that sucks. At least you got a new one for free which I'm surprised since Best Buy usually tells you to !@#$ off if you did ANY kind of physical damage to it. Don't put it in that spot anymore since you've done it to your gameboy a bunch of times ;D. The on/off switch seems to be in a bad place....when I was playing it for a bit at work it felt like my right hand was going to slide up against the switch and shut it off mid play.

What other kind of damage is there other then physical to a game console? Have you ever tried to return a PS2 with mental anguish?

The Employee probably just accepted it because of Sony's promise to replace "faulty" PSP's. The person behind the counter was probably just instructed to accept PSP exchanges, or wasn't clear as to what they were supposed to acfept. Regardless though, the manager will probably have the claims department label it as "dead screen" and send it back to Sony, at Sony's cost.
That is of course, if the Claims department doesn't just label it that way anyway.
