Semi nude=Topless. And no, not anime girls, live action FMV.

You select a model, choose her outfit and take her picture. You are graded on the quality of your shots and if you do well enough you can pick a different outfit. You can choose to save pictures you like for viewing later. Every now and then there will be a Q&A session with one of the models. You have to choose what to say and if you offend her she splits and it's game over.

This CD allows the photographer in all of us to come out as it takes us in search of young Japanese models to photograph and ogle, for lack of a better term. VPS is not really a game in the usual sense but more of an interactive 'situation' where you can take snapshots of models in different poses and in different states of undress. The Saturn version should be the same exact game as the 3DO version which made it to market last your but with cleaner video and some new faces. Perfect for the armchair voyeur.

There are three models if I remember right. You must take pictures of them and if you do good they change outfits. They will end up nude if'n you're good enough. LOL There is no full frontal nudity.

I just got it for $16 off of eBay. Hope it's worth it...

It used to run $50 a few years ago... so yeah it's worth it.

It was like I was meant to get it. About three or four of them have popped on eBay or online stores recently. Doesn't come up that often...

Poor man's porn. Not worth the money in my opinion. But give us a review when you get it.

Hey, it's a nice conversation piece and I could easily resell it for more in the future. Not that I would want to start a conversation about it outside these forums...

That sounds about like the paper rock scissors games I have for playstation except you dont take pictures.

Sounds like a decent buy compared to the past prices for the game.

As long as you don't go into it expecting a great game, I'd say it's worth the $16. Certainly a better price than what it used to go for and as you said, it's a nice conversation piece. As a game, or otherwise, though, it's sub-par.

Still, it is interesting to see what they got away with on mainstream systems over in Japan back then. Now, with games like God of War, BMX XXX and the recent Leisure Suit Larry nudity isn't quite as taboo but before....

lol- if your japanese is terrible or non-existent, it's definitely not all that easy to get to the "good" stuff:roll: , without a walkthrough or a load of trial and error. you won't see all that much if except the girls dissing you if you can't read the questions and answer selections. just like the other photo games and the infamously terrible wangan dead heat games on the saturn.

as for the nudity in imports, developers were not really "getting away with" anything. these games were labeled for and sold mainly to adults (or those over 18). we're raised as uber-prudes here in the west, so the mere thought of nudity outside the bedroom, a men's magazine or on late nite cable is oh so shocking, LOL

No need to explain. I know full well that it wasn't all that shocking in Japan. I was more referring to the fact that it was unheard of in the US at the time. Had they tried that here, even if marketed towards adults they wouldn't have "gotten away with it." Thus, to a majority of US gamers the developers were doing something that was taboo here. I guess I wasn't clear enough.

However, it's worth noting that the tables are turning. More and more games are being censored for Japan while recieving the uncut treatment in the US. Resident Evil 4 for a recent example. It's odd to see, but it's happening. As far as I know, there hasn't been nudity on a mainstream console in Japan since the Saturn(barring a few late DC titles which may or may not have had nudity.)

As I'm sure you know, later in the Saturn's life Sega disallowed nudity of any kind in Saturn games. Hell, all of the adult Mahjong games that featured nudity for Saturn were censored for Playstation. Contrary to popular belief, you can't buy "rape simulators" for mainstream consoles. All of the truly risque stuff is relagated to PC and even then it is generally fan made. Standards aren't as free in Japan as many think, but that's a whole other topic.

lol- yeah, i was talking about this recently with someone who though there were porno games galore on consoles, and i had to knock him back down to earth. there are parents groups and politicians there that think some games are too violent and need to be kept away from younger kids (sort of like here, but without all that church and state crap).

sony was pretty adamant about not allowing anything that would be considered overly risque on the playstation in japan- and interestingly enough, it seems that modern consoles (90's to now) that have the nudie cuties always go under faster then those that don't. of course, bikini babes and stretching models have done gangbusters for D3 and that other company i forget that put out those live action model viewers on the ps2, so i'm a poor historian in that respect, heh.

i have a couple of marty games here that are supposed to be x-rated, but they came with the system, and i actually haven't played them. i may jump into the rpg, because i enjoy the genre (rpg, not potential porno games), but as i went through a chunk of the tediously bad hi-leg fantasy on the pc-engine, i don't have mah hopes waaaay up, LOL

as for us, well, 3DO did have those awful vivid games in the early 90's, but i only saw them in two major retailers here, on a high shelf where they couldn't be reached. actually, i remember walking into j&r music world a loooooong time ago and seeing STACKS of mind teazer (a puzzle game with vivid girls) in a closeout bin. no one was going near it, lol, as it was 1996 or '97, and the 3DO was long dead. i went over and as i was checking to see if there were any other games (madden and a couple of copies of olympic soccer, i think) this huge guy with a beard strolled up, picks up a copy of mind teazer, and asked me "what's this- a movie?". i told him, no, it's a game for an older system, and he's like "ohhhh, ok", as he walks way with it to the register LOL

CRV,
Sorry, I can't help you with the answers to the questions. I don't think I've ever been able to fumble my way through. So, every time the model stops to talk, I seemingly offend her in some way. Then again, I never invested much time in the game, so I suppose it may be possible to simply guess. It's just gonna take a lot of time....

I must have got lucky then. It didn't take many tries to do it right. Just give the game a go and remember how you answered the first time in case it's wrong.

yah- keep a pen and paper handy and scribble down the letter of the response you give until you have a tree going. that's the best way to do it. i haven't touched the game in a few years, lol, or i'd drop clues left and right... :D

Virtua Photo Studio
Publisher: Acclaim Japan - Developer: Transpegasus

Backstory:
This seems to be the last cameraman game from Transpegasus (the only kind game they ever made). Prior to this, they developed the Virtual Cameraman series for LaserActive and 3D0.

Nudity Report:
Everything, except their...nether regions...They strip down to either just their panties or nothing at all in every shoot except the preliminaries.

How You Play:
First, you pick one of three memory slots to save your pictures and game data. Then you give yourself some Japanese name. Then the fun begins...

You get to pick from one of three models. You'll start with a preliminary shoot where she is just standing in front of a plain backdrop (fully clothed). There are three things you need to pay attention to as you're shooting pictures. In the bottom left is the amount of film you have. If you get a "perfect" shot the photographer likes (you're basically an apprentice, I guess), you'll see a cartoon image of his happy face in the bottom center. In the bottom right is a meter. If you do good, the meter (starting from the center) will increase or grow to the right. Getting a "perfect" shot will move it more. If you do bad, it will decrease or grow to the left (along with a buzzer sound). To succeed, you need to get it all the way to the right.

After succeeding with the prelims (stage 1), the regular shoots begin (the second stage having five mostly more modest outfits to choose from, the third having three sets of lingerie to choose from). The model will go through the outfits one by one, all the while showing her love or disdain for them. After you pick an outfit, you'll then go to a video of the photographer giving you advice or telling you what to do (not sure). Then it's time to shoot. The same rules of shooting apply. Get that meter up.

Questions:
A point that's been brought up many times are the questions the models ask. There aren't really that many. The models will only interrupt one of the shoots in a stage. You must answer these correctly to proceed with the shoot. I've managed to figure out some of the sessions already. Only took a matter of minutes...Also, you'll also be asked questions before proceeding to the next stage. Not as big a chore as I thought it might be.

No matter how you do with a shoot, you will be asked to go through your pictures and keep the ones you want (you can view them later). I don't know if this has any impact, or if it's just for your own pleasure.

If you successfully complete all the lingerie shoots, the model and photographer will show their satisfaction. You'll then be treated to a special photoshoot featuring the model rolling around naked. You do get to see their naked fronts here, but an arm or a hand or a leg will always be obscuring their...area of womanliness...You do not get rated on these. It's simply a thank-you gift.

Conclusion:
First, the problems. Going through the pictures can be a pain. It can be very slow to load. Plus, you can only save 300 pics. Also, the video/pictures can be rather grainy (sometimes not so flattering).

I had fun taking pictures, but will that last? These kinds of games are limited experiences. When you've gone through all the shoots, what's the point of doing them again? That's why puzzle games like Gal's Panic work out better.

Rating: 7/10

P.S.:
There you have it, officially licensed softcore porn. Here I am, in 2005 America, when developers are pushing the envelope with cartoony CG women in Playboy: The Mansion (get real playmates and watch the protests ensue).

I think you're talking about Pony Canyon (they've got some great models like Megumi and Harumi Nemoto).

They couldn't have done too badly. I think they're still making them for DVD players (I seem to remember some mini-controversy about them being able to be played on a PS2 or XBox).

actually some of the virtual cameraman games showed up on the 3DO as well- i've one here somewhere in the collection. they're also easier to hide from your wife or girlfriend. those big ol' laseractive games are perfect for your gal to either bash over your head or use as a plate for your dinner if she finds them when you're out LOL

Sorry to bump up such an old thread, but I said I would do a walkthrough, and I am...sorta. I don't feel like doing a formal text file or anything right now, so I will just post what I have here.

During certain shoots, the models will halt the shoot to ask you questions. You have three choices for each one. You need to answer correctly in order to persuade them to strip. If you don't, the shoot's over.

Model 1 - Lingerie 2
3, 1, 3, 3, 1, 2, 1, 3

Model 3 - Lingerie 3
3, 1, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3

Model 1 - Stage 2 - Outfit 5
2, 1, 1, 2, 3

Model 2 - Stage 2 - Outfit 1
1, 1, 2, 3, 2, 2, 3, 1

Model 3 - Stage 2 - Outfit 4
1, 1, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3

Model 2 - Stage 3 - Outfit 1
2, 2, 3, 1, 1, 2, 3
