I bought one at a yard sale today, brought it home and hooked it up with the rf switch it came with. This is my first DC so I know nothing about them.
I can't get any type of signal to my tv.So I tried another tv..nothing.So I call around and track down an av hookup at Game Crazy.Bring it home and still nothing on either tv.Like I said, I know nothing about the DC but it sounds like it is loading the games but not sending the signal. Is this common?
My wife thinks it is in the rf and av wires but what are the odds that both wires are bad? Any help out there?

My wife thinks it is in the rf and av wires but what are the odds that both wires are bad? Any help out there? Do you have the tv on the right channel? also make sure you have a tv input/game option on your remote, it sounds like you just aren't getting the picture on the screen right? Do you have other A/V systems like N64/Playstation and newer? The DC hooks up exactly the same as any other system, so if you are able to get them working on your TV, your DC should work as well--there is no trick to setting it up. If it still doesn't work, it must be in need of repair, and there are many great repair people on this site that can fix it for you if need be.

Yeah, thanks for the help..I can't get a picture with either rf or av so it is probably in the DC itself.I have N64,PSX,NES,SNES and Xbox all running off of av with no probs...

Could be a problem with the internal Dreamcast power supply. Lots of them started to flake out from people leaving their consoles on nearly 24-7 when Phantasy Star Online was released. :beaten: One of my DC's has a power supply problem too, from the large amount of emulation testing I do on it.

Basically sometimes it will lose picture but remain on, and sometimes it'll reset continuously - kinda like the old NES flashing screen problem from dirty connectors. While no picture would be displayed the power light remains on and the system still running. If this is the case (power light is on, you hear the system running and feel air coming from the fan but no picture) it has nothing to do with your TV connection at all, but with the internal power supply.

You can try unplugging the power connection, plugging it back in and trying again. If you can get it to halfway boot up on the screen even for just a few seconds then it's the power supply. You can buy a new power supply for about $20 all said and done and change it yourself or simply keep your controllers / power cable / TV connections and look for a dirt cheap 'console only' on eBay or at local yard sales / flea markets.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help all..I will probably just add it to my pile of half ass working psx machines and keep an eye out for another one.I paid 15 bucks for this one but at least I got some games out of the deal.BTW I took it to Game Crazy and it didn't work there either Sigh.......

Power supply then, like you said, at least you got some accessories out of the deal.
