Gashapon Questions

Guess this is a good place to post, seems like anything import is here (Along with Soundtracks)

I have a few that I bought some time ago, but looking at all the cool characters available (Like the Sega Sets) I was thinking about buying more, but I have some questions.

What's a good place to purchase these figures?

Usually I see them available in sets and individual, is there any place that will pick the one you want if you buy only 1?

What's a good average price for figures and sets?

Although it won't bother me too much, are there lots of knock offs available, similar to soundtracks?

I've never seen any place sell them online other than Yahoo Japan. Remember that the items only cost 200 (or sometimes 300) yen in the machines, so if you're paying $5 each, someone is making some good money somewhere.

i think lik-sang sometimes carries although bit pricy..

about $1.85 for 200 yen and $2.80 for 300 yen.
as most sellers on Yahoo Japan won't ship overseas you will need a contact in Japan to act as go between or try those proxy(?) companies...

or ask the forum members who live in Japan... :D

I guess $17.99 isn't TOO bad of a price if you can get a set of 7 pieces, like the Sega Gals. Honestly though, all the fun of Gachagacha (who the fuck came up w/ the term Gashapon?) is getting the one you want. I have three on my desk now. Kaede from Sakura Taisen (not the one I wanted), Tetsuo on motorcycle (http://store1.yimg.com/I/rsc-online_1839_2517590) (bottom lefthand corner from Akira (very cool -- he was a 300 yenner. That set for $17.99 is a good deal, as those are 300 yen each. I might pick it up) and some random fighting chick with big tits. When I lived in Japan, I usually cycled them to decorate my desk. I would usually end up losing their heads and whatnot though. I work on a trading floor. Lots of office sports and desk-banging.

EDIT: Dang, do these things sell at these prices? When I move back to Tokyo, maybe I'll open up a company called J-Crap. :)

Every gashapon figure I've ever bought came from eBay. Usually you can grab a complete set of many different series for about $14 or so and there are many sellers based in the USA or that will import them for you.

You can get the full set for about 3000-3500 yen on Yahoo Japan now. Pretty inexpensive considering it'd cost a small fortune to get them all buying Pepsi's at over $1 apiece.
