I just saw this sucker on a page at gamestop.com. BTW, they are the semiliterate ones calling it a "lite", not I. See:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=801559

So does anybody have any inside info on this? In particular, I'm wondering whether it has an on/off switch, or if it is a continual powersucker. From what I've read about it at gamefaqs, it plugs into your link port and replaces the stock screen. There seems to be some uncertainty about whether there's a pass-through for your link port, as well. For $40, I want features, dammit!

Edited to remove excess usage of the word "sucker".

For $40, it better be compatible with the GBA to GC link, the eCard reader and other special device. Or Gamestop could expect high return rate as it's not too good to remove the whole friggin' screen just to use the link port.

PS where did Gamestop get that orange GBA???

it's most likely a japanese gba- i think think the color is "spice" or "pumpkin" or something martha-stewarty that's orange but not "orange", lol... spice makes me think of david lynch's version of dune for some oddball reason... x_x

I'm guessing they've produced a variety of stuff that, in your opinion, sucks the dong. If so, please list a couple of stinkers.

From the looks of that product, it just doesn't look good. It doesn't seem to illuminate the entire screen. I would still have to see it in person though, but based on the description and picture, I wouldn't buy it.

The best light overal would still be the Afterburner.

(booming orson welles-esque voice:) "in the future, there will be an invention called a LAMP. this wonderful device comes in many wondrous shapes and sizes, and the LAMP can be magically switched on to provide illumination for almost any purpose, should you not be able to afford a lite for your game boy advance...remember it, young man, LAMP. and remember to share this secret with all your friends...don't keep them in the darrrrrrrrk."

Haha, lamps. Funny! Actually playing under a lamp just doesn't help much. The GBA is really that dark.

yup- i know that, which is why i'm rarely use MY gba! i've tried a few lights, but really don't like any of them, and i'm waiting until nintendo releases that gba/game cube adapter. i was sort of making fun of the grimace, as his post made it seem that he plays his gba with all the lights off... :D

I've wasted too much on 3rd party add ons as well. The best external I've seen so far is the Xeon light. It used parabolic mirror to spread the light out and it actually came close to filling the whole screen without a bright spot. The only problem was the very top 1/8th inch remained in the dark and the whole arm wasn't long enough to adjust to eliminate that dark spot.

Afterburner is still the way to go.
