dvd/cd/stereo only reads dvds...

For weeks it wasn't reading cds but it would play dvds... Opened it tonight and just blew on the laser and now it does play cds again.

Was it just dust or something? Is this common?

Want to know if the thing is dying or what...

Umm... I think you kinda answered your own question. Unplug it, vaccuum it out. I do that to my computer every now and then.
