View Full Version : What do sealed long box games look like?

So I just picked up my first PS1 long box game - I had actually never seen one before. When I picked it up at the used game store, I saw it was shrink-wrapped and assumed it was still sealed. Getting it home, I notice the shrink-wrap seems poor quality and the CD rattles around inside the box, so I'm thinking it was re-wrapped.

Do long box games have a sticker on top like CDs and DVDs do? Any way to know for sure what they look like?

NO NO NO and NO. :D

Actually the Long Boxed titles came in a very flimsy shrink wrap that was easily tearable and there were NO top seals, only the shrink itself. Its hard to tell reseals unless I can feel them, the older shrink feels different (at least to my hands) so telling a reseal can be hard. However at the same time there has been little interest in the longboxes being sealed, so there isnt a massive market for reseals and the 'money' they'd bring in.

^^^ yea, the old wrap feels like cling wrap instead of plastic wrap.

Well, for any who care, last night I began removing the stickers on it, only to discover that one of the price tags was underneath the shrink-wrap. I guess that answers that question.

Also it's worth noting that even in sealed games, it's not uncommon (at least in my experience) to have disks come off their holders inside the case. It really bites to open that sealed game only to find the disk has a big scratch through the middle. :(

The shrinkwrap is definitely flimsy. I picked up a bunch of copies of Descent last year and most of them had ripped shrinkwrap.

for what it's worth....

I picked up a sealed darkstalkers way back when (when i bought my now infamous space hulk long box and ebayed it). The wrap was pretty crappy, and in fact the top portion was coming undone; however, that didn't stop some nuts. I believe it ended for over 80 bucks.

I was pretty happy with the four bucks i invested on it :)

Sealed long box PS1 games are pretty scarce (from what i have seen). So... if you see one (even if it's a sports title), i'd reccommend picking it up.

Come to think of it, I don't even remember there being shrink-wrap when I bought my copy of Extreme Pinball brand-new. If there was, it wasn't fancy.

I have several sealed like cling wrap Longbox PS games.....I've always thought they were resealed...(I learn something everyday)

Last Night I opened a sealed VIEWPOINT Long Box PS game..the Game had fell off the holder and has been on my shelf for the longest.

I have another copy of VIEWPOINT on the PS loose Cd but it's finicky in PS systems but works well in a PS2. :?
I wanted to see how the Game compaired to MVS and AES versions so instead of just popping it in a PS2 I opened that sealed copy.
I was playing various PS games on a PSone already..

Did I create some loss in value now since I opened it..? x_x

Not really. From what I've seen as well as some of the other crazy PS collectors there hasnt been much demand for many sealed PS games YET. The Longboxed stuff will be the hardest to prove legit, and some of those down the line will be desirable ones considering that most of the rarest PS titles are LB in the first place. Its not devalued since its in the guide as an OPEN game, not sealed. Ebay it could have pulled more for someone who really wanted it sealed but that would still depend on some competition for it in the first place. You didnt do anything but open your game and enjoy it (what it was created for in the first place) and didnt hurt its value in todays market.

I know you said you found out it was opened, but this is just for reference sake.

Yes they are sealed in a thin shrinkwrap. There is a plastic overlap running vertically down the back. Lastly, almost all of them I've seen have a plastic hangtab (similar to NES & SNES).

None of my sealed LB games have a hanging tab on them. In fact the only PS games ive ever seen with a tag like that on them (and this would be all of them but the Collectors Edition stuff) have been the Cd Jewel case stuff(better known as 4/5ths of the total library). I only have one of my sealed LB games here but I can say that my Romance IV as well as Shockwave Assault (the one i've got here with me) have seams on the top and bottom of the case and dont have any overlap of any kind.

Weird, I'm looking at "In the Hunt", "Tekken", and "Loaded" and all of them are just like what I described. Can you check if you have any of these games? I pretty sure I remember all of the ones I've seen are like this.
