Believe it or not, I actually found a working Gameboy Color at a second-hand store for...$4.00. No typo; $4.00.
So, I purchased it.
Can anyone direct me to a website that concentrates on this thing, with game lists and screenshots? Also, do original Gameboy games play on it?
Thanks!

You're at a site with a great list, it's just down right now. Otherwise, Google is your friend.
Yes, it plays regular GB games, no problem.

It IS a good list, but aren't there more games for (them)?
By the by- that same place was selling an old beat up CV Smurf cartridge for...$6.00.
Go figure.

Well I know people who have one in every color. I don't know if you've noticed but people tend to collect stuff around here.

Yeah I have an SP so can play all the Color games but certainly wouldn't turn down a $4 Gameboy Color.

I never really got into the GBC nearly as much as I did the original GB (~130 unique games vs ~15), so I'm not sure that I can recommend a whole lot. As far as I know this is the best site for the GBC lists, just use the game database (there were some pdfs around but i seem to have misplaced the link). For screen shots google is your best bet. Orignal games will play just fine on them, if I remember right the only exceptions are Road Rash (has a programming error so it only works on B&W) and perhaps the Wisdom Tree games (they just plain don't fit), but I'm not sure about that second one (I dont have a GBC with me to check). But I do know that they work on a Super Game Boy, so if they DO fit I'm sure they work.
For some must-have GBC games I'd say:
Dragon Warrior III
Dragon Warrior Monsters (1 more so than 2)
LoZ Link's Awakening DX
LoZ Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons
And Maybe Pokemon Silver/Gold

:? Not sure why...it's a great system. Besides, you can always sell it for a good amount more that $4!
ANY game system at $4 is a great deal.

Reminds me of the old Zen Koan…
A Cup of Tea
Nan-in, a Japanese master, received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen. They chatted a while. Nan-in then served tea. He poured his visitor's cup full, and then kept pouring. The professor watched the overflow until he could no longer restrain himself. "It is over full. No more will go in!" he exclaimed. "Like this cup," Nan-in said, "you are full of your own judgments, opinions, and speculations. How can I show you Zen until you first empty your cup?"
…or something like that…

Pokemon Pinball
Pokemon Trading Card Game
There are tonnes of topic on the best GBC games, as i remember posting in one of them...
As for the $4 GBC, nice find... What colour was it too?

Same here. DeputyMoniker, if someone ever offers you a GBC for free, direct them to me. :P
Coincedentally, I had a dream last night about trading in a GBC for store credit somewhere. I woke up wondering why I'd even want to do that in the first place (and I don't even own a GBC).
As for game recommendations, out of what I own I enjoy the aforementioned Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, Link's Awakening DX, Pokemon Pinball, and R-Type DX.

Hi there, VGMuseum.com has a great archive of screenshots for games of every system. Their Gameboy (Original through GBA) is a great resource for myself when I'm on the fence as to pick up a game or not even after reading reviews.
Straight to the GBC section:
http://www.vgmuseum.com/gbc.htm
Browsing with a pop-up blocker in place is recomended.
Just bought a copy of Shantae for myself today on Ebay, been wanting that one for a while now.

Ah, my good ol' Gameboy Color. Lots of fun times. I'd actually bought and beaten Link's Awakening DX before I even got the GBC. Actually, if you want to play GBC games, they actually look a lot better on the Color system than they do on the Advance... for some reason the colors are darker and muddier on the GBA.

I wholeheartedly agree. GBC games look like crap on GBA. And if I want to play a b/w game, I'd much sooner pop it into my GBC than my GBA.
I skipped out on Game Boy Pocket when it was new, so GBC was a HUGE improvement over my old brick when I got it. The screen is nice and sharp, the colors are usually quite good (and you can always choose other color schemes), and it feels nice in my hands. GBC still gets a lot of play in my house, both from my boyfriend and myself. I have a Teal, and he has a Kiwi. :)

They also still have a review I wrote when I was 12 or 13

Bionic Commando

Bionic Commando Elite Forces. Bionic Commando was released as pretty much a straight NES port on the regular Gameboy.
Also Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX features an extra dungeon that wasn't in the normal GB version.
I think the GBCs are pretty darn cool and I bought one at launch. It made it a lot easier to play.
And for 4.00 it's not too bad. Collect all the colors now! ;)

For screenshots of the main GBC games, go to the DP screenshot gallery (upper left box in the menu above this thread). I made many screenshots for DP, so I can tell you that they cover pretty much the good GBC games.
The GBC is an interesting transitional system. The fact that it was backward-compatible with the original GB was a good move, IMO.
BTW, one GB game I recommend is Donkey Kong 94. On the GBC it plays in sepia (brownish) tones, which gives it a nice vintage look. :)
And I second all the suggestions (Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons and Link's Awakening DX, the earlier Pokémon games, Pokémon Pinbal, Pokémon TCG - especially if you like TCGs in the first place - and Bionic Commando Elite Forces.

I'd buy a Game.com for $4, depending on what kind of condition it's in.
I've been meaning to get hold of a minty boxed one, not to play it, but just to have it. Same with an R-Zone, but those seem fairly rare for whatever reason.

Hmmm i guess the R-zone was marketed like a "Real" console, yet all it was, was a LCD Game (Same quality as Game & Watch) with changable games... With Gameboy around, nobody was gonna buy this...
*I also want one too thou, despite what ive said* :P :D
However.. you do look a bit crosseyed while playing it:

If you want a good Gameboy Color game then get (the sadly overlooked) Toki Tori (http://www.tokitori.com).

I see a Wizardry game is on the list- but it's in %$#@*&^! JAPANESE!
Any English versions? RPGs are the main reason I bought it; especially first-person, Wizardry/Lord of the Dungeon style-RPGs.

I agree with him, that game is GREAT! Get it for your Gameboy if you like a good, challenging, puzzle game. You should also consider getting Metal Walker and Kirby's Block Ball.

You can't play multiplayer GB & GBC games on the GBA. (Or at least I haven't been able to)

I'm not entirely sure what those games are like, but I know for a fact that Sword of Hope and SOH2 on the B&W GB games are both FPRPGs, and they're both pretty fun.
Other good B&W RGPs include:
Great Greed
Final Fantasy Legend II
Final Fantasy Legend III
LoZ: Link's Awakening
Knight Quest (I like this one, but it's incredibly slow paced, the battle speed is set too low, so some may not like it. Pretty hard to find too)

The GBC was a much better design imho than the original GBA, just felt better to play TetrisDx or Mario Golf on. The GBA SP got back to a better design and I now only go back to the GBC for Tetris, just feels natural :)

The remakes of the first three Wizardry games for the gameboy color has an option for english text (the Wizardry remake for WonderSwan has an english language option as well).

Funny to see that thread. Some days ago I've bidded on a GBC on Ebay because that system caught my attention. I'm not that keen on a new console but I saw that it has two new Zelda games that are in the LTTP style. That's all I need to get curious. Especially since I started replaying LTTP now. I didn't get the machine but I have the time to wait for a good (cheap) occasion. Seems that is has some other interesting games on, good to know...

An excellent version of Metal Gear Solid was released on GBC. Really captured the whole stealth thing with mini-people...

Well I know people who have one in every color.
count me in that bunch. I've got a long way to go though. I've got 3 different color original Gameboys, 3 Pockets, and only 2 Colors. almost had a lime green one the other day but passed since the battery door was missing.
for $4 bucks I'd have snagged it whether I had that color or not.

Excellent! The first THREE Wizardry games, available for the GBC? Then this most certainly was a good purchase, especially with Asteroids, Qix, and Centipede available for it.

I picked up my first GBC recently at a GameStop for $10.00. If anyone wants any of particular colors at that price ($11.00ish after tax, $15.00ish after shipping) PM me and I'll see what I can do.
I have been sort of disappointed with the games so far, but Metal Gear Solid alone is worth owning the system for. I can't believe that they captured the stealth of the full game in such a small setting with such perfect precision and control. It doesn't get better than that in my mind.
Personally, I was / am very disappointed by the Donkey Kong Country port. The control in it doesn't seem to be half as tight as the original game was. I find it disappointing because the Game Boy Donkey Kong Land series has really dead-on control. That series is a good addition to your collection if you're going to play them on the GBC (on the original Game Boy, they are hard to figure out what is going on with).
And I'll second Pokemon Pinball as being a good game.
