The original Super Mario Bros. is pretty fun, back in the day me and my friend would take turns beating the game, seeing how long it took each of us. There would also be penaltys for dying, and we were allowed to use Warp Pipes.

Mega Man 2 for sure. Last summer I was going to tape a speed run and send it in to twin galaxies but I just kind of forgot about it. Possibly this year though.

Although once you know how to beat it, it's easy to shave of lots of time....
Shadowgate. After I beat it the first time (which took me forever) I went back and beat it in half an hour
I'm sure with practice I could get even better ;)

What was your score? Do you get the flippers back at 200,000+?
Dragon Warrior 1. Not the fastest speed run game, but fun to see how fast and low lvl you can beat it.

Are you serious? I tried to do a low level run on that game recently and the game beat me to a pulp and spat on my grave. I beat the game at lvl 17 eventually, but that took me many runs through the Dragon Lord's Castle to accomplish.
This site: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/ has fake speedruns (they use emulators and re-records) but if you browse the NES titles it will give you a good idea of most of the shorter speed-runnable games. Two of my favourites for quick no-death runs are Jackie Chan and Batman, but the Joker usually gets me more often than not.

I've got to go with Mike Tyson's Punch Out. That's a great one for me. I can go all the way without losing. I'm trying to make it without being knocked down or even being hit.

Besides the above mentioned games, I would say Ninja Gaiden, SMB 3, Double Dragon.

Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers is one of my favorite speed run games.
The time trials in Wario's Woods is an excellent high score/fastest time combo game.

gotta agree with sisko here. Chip n dale rescue rangers is one of the best games for quick play. Not only is it fairly easy, it is fun as hell.
Another of the games along the lines of chip n dale is ducktales, which also is good for a quick run through (although not near as good as rescue rangers) :)

Galaga. Excellent conversion to the NES. I love this game. Perfect for racking up a score. Others that come to mind are:
Balloon Fight
Burger Time
Donkey Kong 1,2,3
Ice Climber
Popeye
Those are some of my favorite score racking games.

I've known about Bisqwit's site for a while, too. It's pretty awesome what they've done, if you can appreciate that kind of "art."
Anyway, my suggestion is Duck Tales. Try to do a Speed Run. It's a pretty fun way to inject some challenge into a really fun but really easy platformer.

I don't remember my score and don't feel like watch the tape again, but I can tell you that I rolled the score counter. Yeah, flippers come back at 200k.

Any platformer that rewards memorization and has little to no random factors to consider. Capcom games are good for this, like the Mega Man series and Adventures in the Magic Kingdom.
