No I'm not asking for a list of the launch games, I'd like to know if anyone has a list of the PS2 games the came in plain DVD cases. Those without the memory card holder or the blueish tint.

can only speak for the PS2 PAL launch games which ALL got released in the proper game cases. i never came across a game released in plain cases.

I don't think those games were official releases. I have seen a number of them for sale on local secondhand sites, but it appears they are review copies or something. It's usually the full game, but no manual or anything...

Well, my Grandia III+IV is defnetily different then the other PS2 cases, one difference being no memory holder inside.

Yeah I've bought many PS2 realease titles (RRV and Fantavision) only to find a plain DVD case. I was just wondering if anyone had a complete list for my picky completeist ass.
SB are you talking about Grandia Xtreme or plain old Grandia II?

Think he meant Gradius III&IV
I went through my PS2 games and these have normal DVD cases (would of had more games to go through but I got in a tight spot two years ago and sold quite a few off :/)
DOA 2: Hardcore
Fantavision
Gradius III & IV
Gungriffon Blaze
Oni
Ridge Racer V
Street Fighter EX3
I think the key is to find a series of older games that have the PS2 unique case, trace back their release dates, and from that be able to estimate a cut off date for when the old cases were phased out.
Hope this helps. :)

All the games you list there were either at launch or shortly afterward. I'll have to do a little bit of looking into this one.

It's not a game, but I thought it was worth mentioning that some of the Jampacks are in plain DVD cases as well. My copy of Vol. 10 is one of them, and it's a safe guess that some of the others are in plain cases as well.
A few weeks ago I got a copy of ATV Offroad Fury 2 in a trade (the "Not For Resale" pack-in version that came with the Online bundle). It was in a plain case that looked similar to the plain case I got with the aforementioned Jampack.
To any DP'ers out there who purchased the online bundle, is your copy of ATV Offroad Fury 2 in an official case or a plain one? Unlike the aforementioned Jampack, I didn't get the game brand new, and this thread has made me wonder if perhaps the plain case was the original case.

What I found strange is my copy of Silpheed: The Lost Planet is in a PS2 style case with the memory card holder but I'm pretty sure it came out at the same time as Gungriffon Blaze. :hmm:

Ive got a number of games released in the regular cases (and think that practice lasted a good 6 months or so). I know that my Underground Summer 01 Demo came in one (I switched it out to a newer case since it was very broken). I can check my copies of stuff in the coming days Oob and let you know about em.

While some of the game cases obviously lacked memory card holders, every single game I have seen has had the bluish tint to all their cases (thus not being a "regular case"), including all of these:
DOA 2: Hardcore
Fantavision
Gradius III & IV
Gungriffon Blaze
Oni
Ridge Racer V
Street Fighter EX3
That being said, I cannot confirm Jampack cases as I never buy them.

I just got out my Madden 2001 that I got on launch day and it DOES have a memory card holder. Other than the JAMPACKs and the demo discs I got, I think all of the games I have all have the memory card holder.

has anyone actually seen these cases in store back then? i have the feeling those might all be replacement cases, we all know how many teens handle their games and i'd not wonder if they add a standard dvd case to the game as soon as they want to sell it or whatever
so, does anyone have a game he bought brand new with such a case??

I was working in the biz for PS2 launch, and I can confirm that (at least in Canada) many of our launch titles did come with a standard DVD case (without memory card holder). As far as I know, they all did, but as someone mentioned Madden 2001, I'm not sure then.
Games I have that came in plain cases:
Summoner
Eternal Ring
ATV offroad fury 2 (from system bundle..they all got packaged this way)
In addition, I think Oni, and Smuggler's Run were plain case, too.

Yes, I have.
The thing is, they LOOK like plain old DVD cases, but they aren't. They are still a very dark blue just like all the other PS2 game cases, just have to see 'em in the right light. THey also have the "AMARAY" logo etced insed the case, usually in the spine.
If you find a PS2 game in a black dvd case, it's not the right case, ALL PS2 cases will be a very dark blue.
And that should help clear up the confusion. :)

I bought the online bundle, and my "Not for Resale" ATV Offroad Fury 2 does not have the memory card holder. It is also dark grey (like some of my DVD movies) unlike all of my other PS2 games which are a dark blue. Finally, it has no Amarray logo that I can find.

I seem to remember Onimusha also coming in the standard DVD case without the memory card holster.

Orphen: Scion of Sorcery also has a normal DVD case. Plus I also found the receipt for it and my PS2. I love being a packrat and keeping all of that stuff.

I'm 100% sure that my brand-new copies of SSX & Summoner came in cases without memory card holders.

I got a copy of Tekken Tag Tournament (used, non-GH) that was in the "plain" style. I thought this might have been a switchout on the part of the previous owner, but I checked a few others of the same type and they're all like that.

I know Ring of Red came in a regular style DVD case as well.

I can confirm that the Tekken Tag non-GH case did not have a memory card holder. I got it new soon after the ps2 launch. Timesplitters 1 also came without a memory card holder.

Doh, I DID mean Gradius III+IV. :embarrassed:
And not only can I confirm that game and Ring of Red, which I have, but ALSO Shadow of Destiny, another Konami PS2 game that I have.
I bought all three games in early 2001 so it's fair to say they were new.
