I may have a chance to acquire this game from "source withheld", I would be purchasing it for long term investment, and want to know what this game is actually worth? I know the guide list this as R10/$999 but what it the actual value, I have heard rumors of it hitting $2500 to $3000 range on Ebay, is it worth that much? I would be paying a lot less obviously, but if anyone could help me out any info would be appreciated.

First of all, i don't think that Atari 2600 games make a good investment. I have noticed that overall prices on games seem to have been going down lately (as in the last 2 years) and also, computer hardware does not have eternal life. Your game might be totally dead in 5 years and nobody is going to pay a significant amount for a non-working game. It is a high-risk gamble you are taking. Having said all that, ask around at Atariage. I know that 2 Magicards have recently changed hands and some of the members there could probably give you an indication of the price they went for...

I paid $700 for my "complete" copy. Complete in the sense that it was the circuit board (the original release before they put them in cases), manuals and original overlays. It never came with a box.
I've not seen one go for over $1000 in a long while. The price of it has come down. If it's just the cart itself with no manual or overlays, I wouldn't pay more than $500 for it in a private sale.

Irwin Gaines told me personally that there were "100 to 150" of these made (with the casing, there aren't any solid numbers on the circuit board). That said, you're about to purchase one of gaming's true GRAILS, regardless of what the "going rate" is.
That said, there's a reason why we list things at $999: it's really between the buyer and the seller. In my opinion if you get it for under $1000 (the cased style) it's a STEAL. Open the bidding low and see where it takes you. I can't give you an upper limit, that's really up to your bank account, but if you're planning on reselling it someday I'd heed the advice of the gamers who posted here before me - don't expect great returns.

Joe, there is a contradiction in your posting and the article you wrote, in your post you said that 100 to 150 were made, in the Commavid article in the Video lifetopic you wrote that 50 to 100 Magicards were made, which one is the correct estimate?
I would be getting the one in a casing, not just the eprom. it is loose with no manual or overlays, Joe your saying that a thousand or less is good, I may try to offer that for it. I don't need to sell it for a ton more but it would be basicaally a bank account, I could probably get that much for it later, and then I would be happy, I just have some cash invested in some stock and it is staying at the value it is at, so I want to sell it, the game would be a more fun investment that the other. I will take care of the cart, the rest of my common games that I own are well kept, this one will most likely get locked up in a room with a dehumidifier in it, I haven't had much problems with bit rot that I can recall, I have had to give games a seriously good cleaning before when I purchased them but I have never had a problem with any of my personal collection working without the standard ocaasional cleaning. This game is from an extremely reliable source, I know it works, and I don't have any fear of the thing going dead at all, I have to mull over it some more to see if I really want to drop the cash for it. I will keep everyone posted if I buy the purchase, and i will check atariage as well, thanks for the input.

I won't be able to for a few weeks or so yet I have to receive the stock check first. I will see how much I can get it for at that point.

Have you seen this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8184842950&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V
I doubt that it will sell for that price (also because the manual and overlays are reproductions)...
