Has a game ever pushed you to do something you normally wouldn't do? Maybe like draw a masterpiece? Compose some music? Poetry? I mean, you name it...it can be anything.
I was going through some old books of mine while cleaning house and came upon a Megaman comic I drew back in the late 80's early 90's. Suddenly I remembered everything that went into the creation of this comic. I was so in love with Megaman 2 upon its release, that not only did I buy it, I came up with a comic book. The freaking thing is about 40 pages long, so I guess I must have been either crazy or just plain bored. Kids in my school would borrow the comic early in the day and pass it around school to see how far I had worked into it and returned it at the end of the day. Brought back memories. :(

Classic arcade game sounds are burned into my brain.
There was always music playing in the arcades
and I would tap the buttons and *sequence*
the sound effects from the game
to the beat of the music.
I have incorporated that concept into
creating video game remixes.
I would have never produced any game music
without video games and Digital Press!

I remember being inspired to read up on WWII because of Battle over Britain and getting interested in the Civil War because of an old Antietam game by SSI. Other than that, I don't think games ever inspired me to do more than buy more games.

Zelda: Majora's Mask. The Bombers Secret Society of Justice inspired me to want to make a site all about doing good things for people (I still haven't actually done it, but I'm working on it).
Various RPGs have built up my vocabulary, and I'm starting to learn C++ to help my childhood dream of making my own games.
So I guess you could say I've been a little influenced ^_^;

Back when I was really into modding my Xbox, I learned a lot about FTP, iso, bit torrents, and other programs that I cant think of right now. It was pretty interesting. Now I have that knowledge if I ever need it again.

Well.. dunn0 about inspired, but I have composed like 300 chiptunes. Dont think I would do this if I havnt owned a NES.
Video games have certainly inspired me to write and record some music. I'll see if I can dig up some wav files and make some mp3s.

This is actually ripped from this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45948)
Here is mine.
I'm not real sure of the year but it was just as the Atari Crash was starting.
We were fairly well off, better than most, as my step-dad was an officer in the Air Force. Well things weren't perfect with them and they divorced just after christmas.
So from riches to rags.
We really struggled to make ends meet through that year and as christmas rolled around again we had no money for gifts. We had a small plastic tree, a few decorations and no lights. Mom and I went to the grocery store to pick up a couple of tv dinners for christmas day and a few other items. Well they just happened to be having a blow out sale Atari carts. Everything was $5.00. I knew things were tight so I just looked while she shopped. Being Christmas Eve people were grabbing games faster than you would believe, I watched them all fly by. I noticed a single Miner 2049'er that people just passed up and I really wanted it. We just didn't have the money.
We left and headed home. Once at home I guess my mom started to feel bad about not having anything for me for christmas and asked if there was a game that I saw that I wanted.
"Yes", I said, "but we don't have the money".
She, didn't say much more for awhile.
About an hour later she told me to get my coat on we forgot something at the store.
You can guess the rest, with a slight twist at the end. Miner 2049'er was not there. Instead I got Fathom and I played that game for days on end until I finally beat it. I don't know exactly what it was but that game, it was a turning point in my life. It led to computers and to the games there and many steps later to a career with computers today. I also run fan sites for games from time to time, when one catches my attention. The last one was Planet Dungeon Siege.
Rob Fulop, if you read this, I know you didn't care for Fathom. Just know that your game made a significant impact on at least one person. Enough of an effect, to point a child in the direction of his future.
So my quest, my holy grail, is a mint, sealed Fathom, which I hope to have signed by Rob. I refuse to buy a loose Fathom cart, till I get one...

Silent Hill inspired me to write a screenplay. Well, I actually co-wrote with my friend Mike. Originally, I just wanted a film that was set in an "old" spooky deserted town. There would be crazy stuff going on and, a mystery to solve as to why the town loved to torture visitors. After 1,034 revisions, the only thing that resembles the original story is there's a town. I hope to see the story come to life one day. When that happens, I'll never forget who gave me the inspiration.

The series of short stories I wrote were more-or-less based in an RPG setting, since the characters could check their stats/change equipment ect.

When I was a kid, I used to think I wanted to be a writer. I hadn't done much of it for quite a while. Then I suddenly got a compunction, possibly originating from a malevolent servant of the underworld, to write some Metal Gear fanfiction. SOme of the results are weird (http://www.livejournal.com/community/mgs_slash/104656.html#cutid1) and some are just plain stupid (http://www.livejournal.com/community/mgs_slash/89732.html#cutid1), but it's kinda nice to have things down on paper instead of just rattling around in my head.
Okay, now that you've read those and never want to speak to me again, games have also inspired me to do things that aren't abominations in the sight of any major deities. Like lately, I've been printing out sheet music and trying to play some things on the piano, though I thought I'd given that up ages ago. By the way, have you ever played Dancing Mad all the way through when you have to check every chord and carefully place each finger? It takes a long time.
I'm inspired by video games a lot, actually. For some reason, participating in a good story on a regular basis just makes the creative portions of my brain wake up a little.

I definitely have...after playing video game masterpieces like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, I felt inspired to someday create my own masterpiece. I've come up with many, many ideas and I'm always writing them down and working on new ideas in my head. I swear I'll someday make this dream game of mine a reality...and you'd all better buy it! :D

*ahem* anyway....
I used to doodle like crazy until, oh, I graduated high school. For almost all of elementary school, every damn doodle I drew was video game-related. It pissed my dad off. LOL
I've made and continue to make remixes of video game music, much like the Fox up there.
Also know how to play some VG music on the guitar. I can still play the themes of Edgar, Cyan and Setzer from FF3, and I've forgotten how to play the Veldt theme, Phantom Train, Kefka's theme, the Ghosts & Goblins theme, random Metroid music, and lots more.

Game music is my best bit.
Since I scooped up .NSF's from Zophar.net, I've always wanted to make 8-bit music. I haven't touched a piano/keyboard in almost a few years, but I still know my note patterns.
I've yet to look for a program that makes 8-bit NES music. The closest thing I've done was Mario Paint, or download a rom for NES emulator of a Japanese "make your own shmup" game called Dezaemon. But the major hole in the sock is the lack of sharps and flats in the music makers of both games.
Other than that, on the keyboard I could play the following game tunes halfway decent:
>Star Force (Japanese Famicom arrangement)
>NES Strider intro (somewhat, I mess up quite a bit on it and it's still decent)
>Rush N' Attack
>Dr. Wily Stages 1 & 2 (Megaman 3)
I wish I could find the AC adapter to my keyboard right now. I can hear myself playing Rockman & Forte robot master battle music, which is my personal favorite tune in the Megaman series period.

Tracking experience is recommended, atleast for Nerd Tracker 2. I found Nerd Tracker 2 too time consuming. You can also get NES samples and track with Fast Tracker 2 instead, its easier.

I use my video game hobby as inspiration for when i do any art.
When i took an art class last year my final project was a 2-point perspective of an NES :D
Also when i get CD based games without thier covers i end up making my own.

Tony hawk's pro skater inspired me to Attemt skateboarding further. It didn't succeed..
Jet grind radio inspired me to do graffiti. THAT part isn't working. JGR also inspired me to practice rollerblading. It is succeeding at that. Also JGR inspired me to use the character "Slate" 's name as my SN here, My SN At Emufanatics forums, My Name in Warioware, And my SN on my Nintendo DS. Also further JGR is inspiring me to Buy the Soundtrack for it.
I hope you understand all i said. LOL
There are many, many more things Videogames inspired me to do. But there are too many to post.

You wouldn't believe how many concepts for games have spawned into my mind. I actually have this one shoot-em-up planned out in my mind, called Absolution. Taking elements from many great shmups I have played, it's basically eight levels of pure goodness with impressive graphics, environments, and bosses. Now I haven't pitched this idea yet to any companies yet, so PATENT PENDING.:texaschain:
For example, this one boss concept I have, "Hellspirit" I call him. He's this evil shrouded dude, part Grim Reaper, part Terminator, who creates homing skulls, slashes at you a lot with his scythe, even throws it at you, uses it as a bazooka, and creates black holes that attempt to completely obliterate you with gravity. If only I had more money, this would be a reality... :(
Besides making my own games, I'm also inspired to hum all sorts of different tunes and make a one-man orchestra out of myself to make music that could fit in my own games. I am the absolute dork, so no mocking, please. :embarrassed:
I also, long ago, had a concept for a Ninja Gaiden fanfic, which... of course, is pretty much dead now. More recently, I attempted to draft a Bionic Commando fanfic... but goddammit, I am no longer as creative as I was eons ago. Sixteen years gone, and I've already passed my prime. Where have the hours gone?
... sorry 'bout that. We can agree on this emoticon: :sob:

Well, the entire "Syphon Filter" game series inspired me to start writing an original story based on the hit series.
In fact, I just posted the first chapter in the following thread:
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58601
Additionally, the DC game "Gundam Side Story: 0079" inspired me to write yet another story based in the Gundam Universe. I even went as far as designing my own unique Gundam Mobile Suits which were to be used by the "26th Air Squadron" in the storyline I wrote (I'm still writing it). To top things off with this project, I also dabbled a bit using Macromedia Flash and attempted to make an animated series out of it.
Other series have also led me to draw artwork (Castlevania, Metroid, 8-Man, Bionic Commando) and even ultimately lead me to Hyper Geekdom: "Cosplay"
Ever since Halloween 1992, I've almost always gone out in costume every year as a Video Game character.
1992 - "Raiden" from "Mortal Kombat" - I was recognized by EVERYONE that saw me, kids and adults alike. I even had the 'lightning' victory pose, where I simply sprayed two cans of blue silly string up into the air while doing Raiden's victory pose. LOL
1993 - "Scorpion" from "Mortal Kombat II" - One of my first ever fully handmade costumes. I even had a huge metal dagger with a rope attached to it. ;) INTERESTING NOTE: I sold my 1992 "Raiden" costume to my cousin and modified it for him, so he went as the MKII "Raiden". 8-)
1994 - "Hiryu" from "Strider" - This was a half-assed costume effort since I didn't really feel like celebrating Halloween that year.
1995 - No costume this year. It was a landmark moment: My father had passed away in February, so I didn't feel too good the rest of the year.
1996 - "Stryker" from "Mortal Kombat 3" - Everything was great with this costume. Unfortunately, I only wore it for about 2 hours because I had to work and I didn't get off until late in the evening. BTW, almost no one saw this costume, which I had put so much effort into. :bawling:
1997 - "Virtua Cop" from "Virtua Cop" - Another half assed attempt to make a costume. I ended up recycling the "Stryker" shirt I used in 1996 and simply adapted it to this costume. I managed to obtain a 'Stunner' gun from a friend of mine who owned an arcade and I customized it to accomodate a laser pointer. Pretty cool custom too. ;)
1998 - "Hunk" from "Resident Evil 2" - This was an expensive costume to make, plus it didn't look as accurate as the one seen in the CG cutscenes in RE2. I also didn't have any prop weapons.
1999 - "Richter Belmont" from "Castlevania: Dracula X" - One of my other hand customized costumes. This one is still in it's complete form, unlike the other costumes I've worn previously.
2000 to 2002 - On hiatus due to devoting my time to work and school.
2003 - "Hunk" from "Resident Evil 2" - Since this was my first year to attend an actual Anime/Manga convention, I decided to re-create my old "Hunk" costume. This time around though, I was 70% closer in detail when compared to the costumes worn by Hunk in the RE2 cutscenes. Hundreds of people took my picture when I wore this. :D
2004 - "Hunk" from "Resident Evil 2" - This was to be the final update to the 2003 Hunk costume. I fully handmade and sewed together the armor and even purchased the correct color BDUs. This costume made it's first appearance at the "Resident Evil: Outbreak" release party at the Sony Metreon. It was later worn to yet several other Anime/Manga Conventions and received good praise yet again.
2004 - "I.P.C.A. Agent GunPanther" from "Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain" - How many times do you get to dress up as your own custom video game character from one of your favorite game series which had just made a hell of a comeback? I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Plus, the BDUs I wore for this costume were ultimately used for the new "Hunk" costume. ;)
2005 - "Hunk" from "Resident Evil 4" - Okay, Hunk is getting a bit old, but dammit.... he made another appearance in RE4, so I had to wear the costume again! This time though, it was more 'store bought' than anything, due to the fact that Hunk's uniform in RE4 is 'real world applicable'.
2005 - "Kain" from "Legacy Of Kain: Blood Omen" - I'm still currently designing this one, but it should be finished near the end of May. The cool part? A 1/1 scale Soul Reaver sword which I'm currently also working on.
As you can see, Video Games have had a big impact on me. Overall, I'm also a collector, with over 1,000 different titles in my library, which is still smaller than most. :P
