View Full Version : So how does one organize their imports?

Now that I'm steadily (albeit slowly) amassing PC Engine titles, I'm kind of stumped as to how to organize them since my knowledge of kanji is jack squat. So far, the only way I can come up with is organizing them according to the translated (or already Engrish in some cases) title alphabetically. Is this the most common method in the States and/or is there a more structured or sound method?

I do it alphabetically, but I know a few people that do it by type. You know shooters, fighters, etc. With the PCE I tend to do it by the numbers (if they have them), then type of media.

Since you're doing PC-Engine games maybe you could try organizing them by color. Though you'd need a pretty wide range of genres to try that.

Typical Japanese sorting is sort of "alphabetical", by the Kana of the text. In other words, you need to know the Kanji readings. But the sound/character ordering goes like this, written left-to-right, top-to-bottom (Western style):
あいうえお
かきくけこ
さしすせそ
たちつてと
なにぬねの
はひふへほ
まみむめも
やゆよ
らりるれろ
わんを
And voiced/bilabial characters, like が or ぽ are sorted just like the standard form of the character.

I find Japanese alphabetical order to be too much of a pain in the butt for me to bother with. :P I use English alphabetical order.

I sort my MD games by part number, which also happens to sort them by manufacturer and age, as well. ;)

I sort mine by English alphabetical order, which is usually very easy to do with my Saturn imports, because most of them have the name of the game in Japanese on one edge, but in English on the opposite edge, and if it's in Japanese on both edges then I just file it under its Japanese name.

By part number of course ;) Then again, I also sort my European games like that...

I stick mine in massive stacks, and enjoy the treasure hunt of finding them later.
Like others here, I've always done my imports by part/cart number, depending on the system. But, as many have stated, there are other ways. Pick the one you like best and go with it.
Of the ones listed above, I like the 'massive stacks' method best. Sound like fun! LOL

I normaly sort the imports in with the domestic titles in alphabetical order unless they make up the majority of the games. Then I simply sort them by alphabet and keep the domestic titles sepreate. Works easy with the saturn games as all the domestic titles I have except 2 are in the long case where all the import titles are in jewl cases.

Mine are literally organized by "most prettiest box art" to "least most prettiest box art." It actually works too. I own like a grand total of six imports though.

I just separate my PC Engine stuff by the color logo on the spines. Separate HuCard, CD-ROM2 system (Green), Super CD ROM2 (Red)

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I think I'll keep the method I've been using, but keeping the Namcot titles grouped together since they have same spines. I'm getting my first batch of Saturn & PC/CD titles this week. I think I'm starting to like this import thing.
