Ok, so....I've got this cart of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for the NES made by Tengen in the black case. Now in my other hand I've got Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in a regular grey Nintendo case by Hi Tech Expressions. What gives? I haven't played the Hi Tech Expressions one yet, so I don't know if it's the exact same game. But the biggest question is, which is more uncommon?

And while we're on the subject, what's more uncommon the Tengen Pacman in the grey Nintendo case or in the black Tengen case.

I'm under the impression gray tengen Pac-man is the rarer one, since I've seen a helluva lot more black case ones.

its all a bit confused, the only way to get to the bottom of this is to sat down and play the games but heres how some guide written by some guy spells it out-

IJ and the T of D by Tengen or Mindscape (no mention of hi tech here) are both based on the 1985 atari coin op (lets remember that tengen is atari!) and are both given the very common ranking of 2 and worth $3. its get more interesting when we talk about the indiana jones and the last crusade NES games, it seem that taito and UBIsoft both made games with this title but the games are completely different. no wonder george lucas got in on the act with lucasarts to straighten things out.

IJ:ToD was originally released by Tengen. After Tengen was forced to stop producing NES games, a deal was signed with Mindscape for a number of games that would have appeared under the Tengen name such as 720, Gauntlet 2, Paperboy & Road Blasters. IJ:ToD was included in teh deal and both carts are identical other then a small title screen change.

The Pac Man question can get a little confusing. Tengen released a version of Pac Man in the black case and a grey case. Both are equally hard to find if I remember right, they're just uncommon. What you should be on the look out for is the Pac Man made by Namco. It's in a grey case too. The label's on the Tengen versions of the game have the same pictures, but the Namco version has a totally different picutre, which looks to be more recent. Namco Pac Man is relatively hard to find, and my old memorization of Etler's rarity list says it was an A-.

The Namco version of both Pac Man and Ms Pac Man were the later releases. Pac Man is identical to the Tengen release minus a title screen change and Ms Pac Man is a total re-write (not necessarily for the better, I might add).

Got any comparision pics so we know what exactly to look for?

Of which, the Namco vs Tengen Pac & Ms Pac? If so:

Hey thanks everyone. I was wondering more about the Indy game. I knew it was common, but out of the two I didn't know which was more uncommon.

BTW: from what I've seen, the Pac Man grey Tengen case is the easiest to find from my experience in MI.

Thanks guys also. I was actually gonna ask about Pac-Man since I found the cart last week, but this topic kinda beat me to it. ^_^

I always wondered about this. Mindscape sure did make some crap games (Mad Max, Dirty Harry, Days of Thunder).
