having finally stumbled across a copy of thrill kill, i've decided to see what else was deemed unmarketable to the market. there was an egm (i think) issue a couple of months ago that featured a dozen or so unreleased ps1 games that were close to completion or had been developed enough to fool around with. can anyone supply me with the names of such games?

off the top of my head i think of the resident evil 1.5 game, but i was unsure if anything other than gameplay videos had been leaked unto the masses.

Even though it was reviewed in magazines Global Domination was never released in North America. Too bad, looked like a good strategy game, I'll have to pick up a PC version one day as I doubt I'll run across a prototype for the Playstation any time soon.

The Online Rarity Guide has a bunch of PS1 games listed in the Rumor Mill and Prototype sections. Maybe that can help you start your search.

i always figured that was more of a fake space filler at the time.looking at how shiny and non blocky the character is . i dont think anything looked like that in 1996.

I remember reading about some platformer starring living playing cards that never came out...It was called Deuce, I beleive. I always thought that one looked pretty good, and It's a shame that it never came out.

Oh, and let's not forget the cancelled US release of Megaman Battle & Chase...I'm still pissed at sony for cancelling it. Oh well, It's supposed to come out in that Megaman X collection they're releasing, and then all shall be right again.... :D

Global Domination and Earthworm Jim both had PAL releases,
and the game that was to be Aeon Flux ended up being bought by Cryo and released as "Pax Corpus" - horrid game. Also, "V Boxing" might be Victory Boxing, which came out in PAL, and I believe there's a sequel called Victory Boxing Contender.. JVC releases, no doubt also out in Japan.

You guys might find a number of games that would seem unreleased are in fact just PAL only or PAL and Japan only (or Japan only) - check places like eBay UK or Aus or Germany to see all sorts of wild and wooly Playstation releases.

I for one wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of the Euro exclusive stuff - eg I've got two games called GZSZ Quiz vol 1 and 2, which stands for Gute Zeiten Schlechte Zeiten, "Good Times Bad Times", which was a Dutch soap opera that the Germans licenced, then the Germans brought out these quiz games based on them.

Totally unplayable for a non-German speaker, and probably not very exciting for anyone who hasn't watched the show, and even if you have, hey, it's a quiz based on a soap opera, how good could it be, but.. how rare will they be in the future? Even if they don't end up rare in 2015, I just got two paragraphs of talking out of them :)

I think that EA thought the graphics werent that great and wanted to go to a full polygonal game or something like that. I'd have to dig out my DC Magazines to get the real answer.

It's probably a good thing Titan AE wasn't released considering how bad the demo was.

Unreal had a TBA release date on OPM's Coming Soon list. There was also an add for a game calle Eric the Viking (or some such title) in an OPM mag. It looked interesting as well.

Beach Head 2000

I've played it, and it was pretty much complete. But the publisher (infogrammes, I think) decided not to release it because they figured they couldn't turn a profit from it.

Fairly fun, but playing as a stationary gun shooting dozens of ships / tanks / soldiers / airplanes, and having limited ammo can get a little repetetive. Still, I'm sure there would have been forum members here that would have loved it.

Beach Head 2000 (and 2002) came out on PC. They also have an arcade machine that you stick your head into this helmet thing and spin around. Its.... strange.

I think that EA thought the graphics werent that great and wanted to go to a full polygonal game or something like that.

Couldn't be that because Madden 97 and 98 used sprites. No one thought you could get that many polygonal players on the field. Gameday '98 killed that theory. I've always read that it was just a qulity issue since Gameday was such a threat back then.

check places like eBay UK or Aus or Germany to see all sorts of wild and wooly Playstation releases. ...or just check the DP online rarity guide 8-) ;)

there were (and are) some pretty interesting exclusives uncovered in our researches and owning a game which is known as "only released in ..." is something special :D

Global Domination and Earthworm Jim both had PAL releases

Funny. I just picked up Global Domination from my local thrift-shop in the weekend. Too bad the game is missing the manual though... One thing i find annoying about PS1 games is that the plastic boxes always seem to be damaged. I've seen (and bought) many PS1 games in several thrift-shops but the chances of finding a non-broken plastic box are pretty slim. I guess no one here is a large supply of PS1 boxes they want to get rid of?

there are ebay auctions from time to time (a german seller) who offers new cases - but they don't have PlayStation printed on them.

a few other exclusives:
Taxi: Le Jeu (France)
RTL Skispringen mit Martin Schmitt (Germany)
Die Millionenshow (Austria; the austrian counterpart of "Wer wird Millionär")
Les Visiteurs (France)
Yattaman: Time Bokan (Italy)
