View Full Version : Raze's Hell, and why you need to buy it!

OK, i usually don't do this, but Majesco is releasing a little third-person acion game called Raze's Hell this month (the 25th, i believe), for the amazingly low price of $19.99...and after playing this over the past week, i can safely say... it just ROCKS. Just like Phantom Dust turned the action/strategy thing on it's ear, Raze pretty much rips the head off and swallows some of the bigger name action games out there, in my opinion.
it's a hilariously subversive game that has its lead going up for revenge against an army of soft and fuzzy characters (called Kewletts) with their deadly weapons and the misguided intent to make the world terminally cute and perfect for their princess. the main game supports two player split screen (another player can jump in at any time by plugging in a controller, setting up a profile, and hitting start), xbox live for deathmatches, and has a hysterical golf game and a few other mini-games as unlockables.
the developer, artech studios, has done a really nice job with the visuals, using some nice lighting, weather, smoke, and fire effects and programing in some challenging enemy AI to keep things pumping. enemies will flank you, go for help, snipe, and shoot rockets your way, and the levels are very well designed and hard as nails to complete. i truthfully had more fun with the single player game than i did with halo 2's (the game is a lot longer, and believe it or not, more difficult on normal- so if you're a he-man man who can beat anything, pick this up and check it out- you'll have a blast).
oh yeah: it's probably going to be rated M, due to the level of blood and gore as Kewletts are splattered into chunks left and right, so if you're one of those folks with parents who make objections to your game purchases based on content, you may want to use the "but i'm killing aliens, ma!" excuse,

you really have tio see the game in motion to appreciate it. when you shoot an ammo dump, for example, it explodes and you'll be blinded by the flame effects if you're upclose. then raze can inhale fire and shoot it back out at enemies for some roasted kewlett chunks, LOL
artech used a lot of neat xbox effects on rocks, assorted crystal formations and pools of oily stuff that screens don't show off. this is one of those game where if you find a quiet spot, you can slowly turn the camera and see some nice, subtle stuff going on. that, and when you curl raze into a ball and roll into some enemies, you'll see one occasionally go splat on your TV screen, with plenty of blood for good measure ;)

I saw this at Toys R Us on Saturday and almost picked it up. Did it already come out? If so, anyone have a second opinion on it? I'm trying to complete games before I buy any more, but this one looks just great, and the reviews so far are stellar...

For $20 it seems like a no-brainer, but other reviews have chided the difficulty level for being too frustrating for most. I've got plenty of unplayed games and about 20,000 roms, I don't need a game that doesn't let me advance ...

You've never steered me wrong before, Greg.
I just pre-ordered it!

If and when I see it in the UK, and if it is at the right price, I'll pick it up. If this title doesn't see much action - which is probably what they are expecting given the price - it could be something of a good bargain in later years.

So I bought this game right after it came out, and finally busted it out again tonight...
Damn. This game is amazing. Humor like Conkers combined with a fresh although easy-to-learn control scheme makes this one of the best games I've played in a while. I've probably only gotten through - at most - an hour, but I can't wait to keep playing.
The thing those cute things say are HILARIOUS.
If you haven't already gotten this, get it now. Damn :)

I didn't plan on hooking my xbox up until fall when the fable exapansion game comes out. However this sounds like a very cool game and it's cheap, so i'll probably be picking it up.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. For $20.00, I'd suggest getting the darn thing new.
You play as an ugly dude that has been given super powers to go and cleanse the world of these overly sweet looking things. You do so in the most bloody way possible. The Kewlitts (cute things) utter random phrases while they are sitting around that are just hilarious. Nothing you would expect to be coming from such a cute thing. And the details are amazing too.
The weird part is that the camera is totally under your control. Normally, I HATE games that do that and attribute it to a lack of real programming. Well, this game does it... and does it well.
The game gets hard fast -- I got killed on the second or third level like five times already and then stopped playing, but it is one of those things where you really feel like you could've beat a level and moved on. It's damn tough, but really addictive.

Get free shipping by picking any used game (even a $0.99 one) and adding it to your cart, and then using the code "SAVER". You can also use your EB Card if you have one, and the code CAG15 to get 25% off the game, making shipping and your 99 cent used game only cost $0.75.
It's worth it :)
