Imagineer made it IIRC. It was yet another clone that I had high hopes on but ultimately crashed and burned (a la Clay Fighter which I recall thinking was going to be the next big thing)

I just remember Street Combat had a black fighter where one button press and he launches a fireball. There was also a RYU-type named Steven. There was a robot fighter too.

Bad game. Just suddenly recalled it outta the blue and went whoa.

it was actually a ranma 1/2 game that was edited because the marketers didn't think it would sell with the anime content. there's a super famicom version around, although i haven't played it yet.

Dear gods I remember that game. Still have it in complete and perfect condition. Me and my brother paid full price for it while we were on vacation. Yes, we are sad individuals for taking our snes with us on vacation.

De ja vu. I just read the same exact post a second ago over on the Gamefaqs SNES message board. Kikko?

The Ranma 1/2 version is way better than the American "Street Combat".

Official Ranma characters, cool & funny animations.... The game wasn't that bad, but it was no "Street Fighter II".

Nope, it was actually called "Street Combat". World Heroes is a completely different game. :)

Oh, I almost forgot....

If you liked "Street Combat" you should also try the following games for the SNES/Famicom:

"Dead Dance" (Jap) aka "Doomsday Warrior" (USA)

"Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle" (USA)

"Gundam Wing" (Jap)

"Kendo Rage" (USA)

"Sword Maniac" (Jap) aka "X-Kalibur 2097" (USA)

I'll try to think of some more games from around that SNES era.

The one you're probably referring to might be "Fighter's History" which was released by the Data East Corporation.

I do vaguely remember hearing about Capcom suing another game company, but I can't be sure exactly which company Capcom was suing.

If it was Data East, Capcom should give them royalties for copying the whole "red" or "white" gi uniforms for "Ken" (red) and "Ryu" (white) from the Street Fighter series as well as the "head to head, player vs. player" combat involving Martial Arts (Karate to be precise, especially in Ken and Ryu's cases).

Data East had released a well known game called "Karate Champ" in the arcades (which was later adapted for play on the 8-Bit NES console) which featured two Karate Competitors who participated in full contact matches.

In Karate Champ, there were no 'shouryukens', 'hadokens' or 'tatsu-maki-sen-pu-kyaku' moves, just good old fashioned and realistic (at least for it's time) basic Karate moves which were executed by pulling or pushing two joysticks (a pair for each player) in certain directions.

They even had 'bonus' rounds where your Karate competitor could break objects (such as flower pots, bottles, etc.) which were being thrown at him, or he could go against a charging bull and hit it into submission with a well placed & timed kick or punch.

If you have a chance, try to check out the arcade version of "Karate Champ" on MAME. Then you'll be able to see some historical gaming.

Yeah that game Capcom sued was indeed Fighter's History.

And yeah I posted this at the SNES board too.

And yeah, World Heroes was a completely different game. I always liked those games. :)

Speaking of SNES fighters, how about DEADLY MOVES? Geez, what a lame name. But I actually recall enjoying the actual game. I remember a "Bakara" with a Sonic Boom projectile... lol

Ah....

Thanks for the correction. I switched the titles prematurely because those two games (when put side by side) look and play very similar to each other.

At the same time, neither of them are all that good, at least IMO.

I do vaguely remember hearing about Capcom suing another game company, but I can't be sure exactly which company Capcom was suing.

Probably both Melbourne House/Beam Software (for "Way of the Exploding Fist") in Australia and System 3 (for "International Karate") in the UK (and both on the C64) as both were rather similar in appearance to Karate Champ (though the control schemes were completely different).

Data East lost btw.
