View Full Version : Super Punch-Out image quality on Fight Night Round 2 (GC)?

I recently rented Fight Night Round 2 for the GameCube, and Super Punch-Out doesn't look nearly as sharp as I expected. I've never played the original SNES version, so I don't know how well it has been emulated on the GC. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

I know Super Punch-Out!! was emulated and it's running at 640x480 resolution, which is higher than the original SNES specs. So the image is stretched and fuzzy. It happens alot with emulation on the newer consoles. Super Punch-Out!! on a SNES though S-Video looks clean and sharp.

That sucks. :( There's no reason why the GameCube version should look WORSE than the SNES version. Still, the gameplay is as fun as ever.

Hmmmm. I guess I won't buy this game, then. I might've bought it mainly for Super Punch-Out (is that pathetic or what?) but I guess I'll just stick to the original SNES game...

Thanks for the reviews on the emulation. I knew it wouldnt be anywhere near the quality of the SNES, but I just wanted to be sure before I forked over $50 for the game.

Super Punch-Out was one of the first titles I used to test out my RGB monitor,. I compaired it too S-video and I must say the S-video looks terrible. In RGB the flesh colored blobs in the stands actually look like people.

Anyway I have also played it on Fight Night Round 2 for Game Cube and it really reminds me of a PC emulated version, something is just not right with the port. It doesn't ruin the gameplay but if you truely want the the best quality version then avoid the GC port.

Slightly off topic, but the emulator powering Super Punchout is the legendary successor to Nesticle, Snesticle! I guess someone had a sense of humor.

Well of course next to RGB, S-Video does look terrible, but its still leagues ahead of RF/Composite.
