I've picked up Super Metroid (loose) a couple times recently at EB Games in Canada for about $5 CAD. I have yet to find a Secret of Mana there.

Were they loose or complete? Complete that probably wouldn't be an unreasonable price.

I've seen Secret of Mana go on ebay complete for about $45.

Loose...if they were complete I would've thought twice about picking them up.

Nice to see them in the wild, but those prices are definitly insane. Isn't that more then they went for loose at Gamestop?? @_@

Good find, but it sounds expensive just for lose games. I've seen Secret Of Mana twice in the wild, both times for just for about 5$, but it was in a Cash Converter store and they price all games the same. No matter how rare or wanted they are. You can always makie good findings there and SoM was one of them. Haven't seen many Super Metroid games around, also not on German or Swiss Ebay.

Anway, congratulations for finding the games. Hope you're enjoying them.

At a Gamestop last year, I managed to get Super Metroid (cart only) for $24.99.

You think those prices are insane??? My local game store sells Ogre Battle (SNES) for $57.. FF2, FF3, SoM all for $40. These are all loose as well.

Buy some games from EStarland.com. They have a good selection of used games. Just last month, I purchased these online:

Illusion of Gaia (cart only) - $9.87. - They also had two other copies, but for different prices.

NBA Live '95 (Complete) - $1.50.

NBA Live '96 (cart only) - $0.98

NBA Live '97 (cart only) - $1.48

It's www.estarland.com. Only thing I don't like is shipping, which is $4 for the first item, and $1 for each additional item.

At what point did Super Metroid become so incredibly rare? I thought it was really common and easy to get.

It's not rare, just sought after since many consider it to be the best in the series. Plus I know a few who consider to be the snes game around.

That being said I see them every week for $5-$10

It's not rare at all--it is really common and easy to get.

wtf? since when have these games become rare? almost every store that carries more than 50 snes games should have a copy of those man, make sure not to visit those or you'll have a lot of shit to clean up LOL

I once had someone tell me Secret Of Mana and Chrono Trigger were the rarest Super Nintendo games, he told me that 50.00 would be a steal for them.

Later that month I bought Chrono Trigger for 4.45 and Secret Of Mana for 3.00

LOL

wow, that's way too high a price for those games...Keep looking, as they're not really that rare, and you'll probably find them cheaper eventually. Patience is a virtue! :D

wow.. that's insane. normally EBgames type people consider clasic games to be 'old' and 'outdated, and they throw them in the bargain bin for .99 each. when did they start valuing SNES games so much?

Ugh...the problem is, every place has no games, or the places that do have games know what's up...

I went to this place about an hour away...they had a huge selection of complete nes/snes/genesis games, also SMS, atari games, etc. everything.

...Except, they're prices were more insane than ebay *sigh*

Other than there, and other game stores (ebgames/gamestop and the like), I have yet to see pretty much anything in the wild (going to a bunch of yard sales/flea markets/good will/Sal Army/Pawn Shops) :|

They don't. Most older games at EB are $5.99 or less. It's just that these two have a high enough demand that they can charge more and someone will buy them (perhaps none of us would, but someone will).

And I paid $10 for my loose Super Metroid. :) Still hoping to find a cheap Secret Of Mana in the wild someday, but I'm sure my time will come.

Finding games in the wild, is sometimes easy. Finding games in the wild that are good and priced within reason, that can be difficult.

An example would be.....
Near my house is a gamecrazy that has both Breath of Fires, Lufia 1, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy 2 all for the SNES. The prices for the games range from 25$ up to 40$. Loose.

Further down the road is a few gamestops that combined have the mostly the same games, only they are asking the same price as well.

A bit off the main road are some EB game stores. When they have them, they generaly want some realy odd prices for games. I have seen them have deals like 2.99 for a loose copy of Lolo 3, but on the other hand I have seen them ask as much as 40$ for a loose copy of Metroid. Sad part was it even had the million seller lable! It cost more loose then it did brand new!

So far the best deals I find these days are at pawn shops of all places. Things like 9 NES games for 20$, or Genesis arcade sticks for 5$, or even 7th Saga for 5$. A freakn pawn shop of all places! I'd love to find a workin copy of Secret of Mana for 10$.

Why the hell would anyone here buy games from Gamestop or EB? They don't carry a significant amount of hard to find titles. They don't have rock bottom prices. They generally aren't interested in classic gaming. And so on.

They charge a lot for popular titles like Secret of Mana and Super Metroid. But when you can find some more obscure games it's usually worth the effort of having checked in regularly.

Why would anyone search the big name used game shops? Easy. While the odds are against them of ever finding anything rare or good for cheap, sometimes you can find good games that are both good and cheap as well. Things like Lolo 3 for 3$ is a damn fine price. Even if its loose. So is a complete copy of Dragon Warrior 1+2 complete for GBC for only 5$. It isnt as good as finding a complete Zelda for the NES priced at 1$, but its alot better then finding a sports title for 1$.
