I'll hit up the other EBGames tomorrow. My bro and I were the last people and the store, and as the lady that was working there was checking our stuff out, I told her I was sorry to hear about being bought out be Gamestop. She said "Shut up! How do you know about that?!" I just said "I'm a gamer." and smiled. She said "I only told my closest friends about that! I'm wondering if I still want work at EB or..." "Yes you do" said her co-worker. I told her that I always wanted to work at an EB. She said "Are you kidding me? Look at this!" and pointed to a mess of games strewn about the floor behind the counter. I said "It looks like my house!"
Heh, just thought it was an interesting story. I'll miss the EB employees around here if the stores end up closing. We have some good ones.

Headded out to the flea market today and while I really didn't see anything worth picking up (went WAY late in the day instead of in the morning) I did come across a PlayStation in the trash pile. It's one of the older versions with the RCA jacks in the back and aside from being dirty the only problem it seemed to have was the tab that holds the lid closed was broken off, no big deal for free.
Once home I disassembled it so the shell could be properly cleaned and I noticed something strange on the underside of the mainboard that brought back a lot of memories...
http://www.classicplastic.info/PS-Mod01.jpg
...pretty nice mod chip installation, reminds me of high school. :) Also take note of the power socket, cut down to accept normal power cords as opposed to only accepting the ones with the top and bottom indents. Clearly this was done by someone who knew their way around the PlayStation. ...again, brings back memories. *sigh*
A quick check (since I haven't installed a PlayStation mod chip since 1999) confirmed my assumptions...
http://www.consoleworld.gr/mode%20chip/ps1/1002.gif
After getting it cleaned and back together (even though on the first try I forgot to reconnect the wire loom from the power board to the mainboard and had to open it up and plug it in) it runs perfectly. Well... what I mean is it has the normal early release PlayStation quirk of needing to be turned upside down to run properly. So I don't think I'll replace the open button since I have to turn it upside down anyway - just a nice reminder to do it. :D Anyway, it runs better than most new PSOnes. I need to pick up an import game to test the chip's performance (I dumped most of my import PS games years ago).
Either way it's a freaking nice find and "meant to be" since I was going to pick up a modded PlayStation in an eBay auction that ended yesterday - but the ending price of $60 was just too much.
What's funny is some idiot had the PlayStation in his hand and his mom or whatever was like "yeah, maybe you can open it and it'll only need a wire replaced" so I moved on. On the way back out I noticed he had left it behind in the trash. LOL

Virtua Fighter Kids (Saturn, w/box, no manual)

Madden 2000 (N64, New)
ATP Tour Championship Tennis (Genesis, New)
IMG International Tour Tennis (Genesis, New)
NHL 96 (Genesis, New)

Bill Walsh College Football
NHLPA Hockey '93 x4

That's 61 free games, if my math is correct. This afternoon, I got a call from the store that gave me all these, saying they had more and wanted to know if I wanted them. @_@ Think it's a few more N64, Genesis, and Gameboy games.
Also bought a bunch of, well,..."clone" Famicom games from a "source" ;)

Wha? Do modified PlayStations sell for more on eBay than normal consoles, or was that a lot with other stuff in it? Does eBay even allow modified consoles to be sold? I bought one very similar to the one you got (a nicely modified, launch day PlayStation, but it doesn't need to be flipped upside-down :P ), and I wasn't even told that it was modified and came with a bunch of back-ups until after the auction was already over.

I was surprised it ended for that much but really I don't see all that many chipped PlayStations on eBay (or anywhere for that matter) anymore. (I wasn't going to pay more than $30 max) It had a US release copy of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and two original DualShock controllers, not that rare at all since I see Puzzle Fighter for $10 pretty much everywhere and DualShocks go for a couple bucks a piece at most used game stores.
Really the auction description had "- plays imports" at the end. No copied games were included, just that small tagline and "it plays both domestic and import games" in the description. I wasn't looking at the time and just kinda stumbled across the listing. If chipped PlayStations ARE selling for that much it's probably because so many were simply tossed out when they developed loading problems.
I'll probably swap out the CD drive assembly and the open switch soon enough so that I can set the console in one of the racks with the others as it's just a nice collectable piece. :)

I will have pics of these 2 items as soon as I get a digicam working.
I was helping my bro move into his new house and his room mate had 2 huge, noticable items in the basement that she did not want. They were huge standees of crazy taxi 2 and state of emergency. of course i asked if i could have them, and it was totally cool. the crazy taxi 2 display stands about as tall as me, while the state of emergency one is maybe a foot high.
I forgot to post my eBay wins. I thought it would be cool to have some Star Wars demos for Xbox:

One of the most horribly underrated franchises in recent gaming history. It's basically an extremely well done platforming game on steroids. It's almost as much puzzle as it is platforming and the way the levels interact with the character to unlock new environments is still unlike any other game. I like the original on the PS1 a bit more (Klonoa: Door to Phantomile) but Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil is the natural progression of this overlooked classic. Both the Klonoa GBA games are excellent as well but graphically you can't beat Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil.

coworkers rock.........all my mailmen and women folk know i like games and game stuff. yesterday, one of the guys asked me if i was interested in a little nintendo thing he picked up out of the trash the other day. i was like sure, that might make the room look a little nicer.
turns out it was some type of nintendo stand. nice and clean with a good nintendo sign on it. stands about 2ft high or so. should make a nice fit for that toploader i just acquired from the Good........ :D

I have never played it and (as is the case nowadays) it wont see my PS2 for about a year. From what I have seen running and what others have said, the game is one of the best (only) true platformers for PS2. That said, I got it because in Europe at least it is getting harder to come across....
