Just got back from Borders and the new issue of Play has an article confirming a sequel to Gunstar Heroes and it is being developed by Treasure.
Now if only they will send my sub copy so I don't have to stand in Borders getting my video game news.

Is it the april issue (possible april fools joke?). If not, then it should be interesting to see how this turns out.

Well, if it is it is a hell of one, lol. They even have the blurb and photo on the front cover down in the corner. Hmmm.. maybe I should have double checked to make sure it wasn't a joke. Damn those April Fools Jokes.

This one better not be a joke. Alot of gamers, most of us rather, have been wanting a sequel to GH for the longest time!! if it is true, it better damn be good.

TheHammerGod, what issue has the article? Is it the April issue with Psychonauts on the cover?
TheHammerGod

No it is the one after that, it must have JUST come in. It has the Gunstar Heroes on the lower right corner of the cover, that's why I noticed it.
Well, that and the fact that as a subscriber I have not got the new issue yet, that always kills me. I am not sure what it is but lately my magazines have been coming later and later, hell i am still waiting for the EGM w/ PSU on the cover.

Yes it's confirmed, Gunstar Heroes (sequel) will be on GBA

March 18th it was announced

Well, I am not sure it was announced back then - at least according to the article you link to:
"When contacted, the company would not comment on the registered trademark or which system the game may be in development for. It's also unknown if the game is a console or handheld title."
I hold out hope for a non-gba game.
Finally, a sequel to a great game.
Now if we could just get an updated version of Streets of Rage ;)

It's about Damn time!
Now why won't other developers follow suit and give gamers what they want? Simplicity with cool addons and decent graphics.
Not that hard people! 8-)

I just hope I can get a free copy of that Play magazine before my buddies at the local EB throw them in the trash next month!

Reason why I claim on the GBA theory, because it's linked to the GBA section of IGN.

That doesn't mean it was announced or confirmed. Speculation on their part, the article made it clear that they were just guessing.

er...anyone remember advance guardian heroes? i say treasure should just do this for the psp in 2D and take advantage of the hardware, millions more colors and widescreen. if they ruin this one on the gb-whatever and don't make the game as great as astro boy: the omega factor, i'm sure some treasure fans are gonna want to bury them LOL
i'd actually love to see sin & punishment on either the ds with the touchscreen used, or on the psp, again-widescreen and plenty of treasure effects happening... x_x

Yet, when I said announced, means they said it. As for confirmed, I meant as in, it has been proven that there will be another Gunstar Heroes

Hmm...I'd love to see a sequel to Gunstar Heroes, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much...I loved Astro Boy, but Advance Guardian Heroes was a huge dissapointment, IMO. Let's just hope treasure does a really good job on it!

er...anyone remember advance guardian heroes?
Yes, and it was pretty good. Lacking in polish, but still fun. It has some of the best level design I've ever seen in a beat-'em-up.
While I agree that a Gunstar sequel would look better on the PSP, Astro Boy and Advance Guardian Heroes show that Treasure can do a lot with the GBA hardware.
Screens of Gunstar Super Heroes follow. I really hope this isn't some delayed April Fool's gag.

The newset issue of "Retro Gamer" mentioned the Gunstar Heroes sequal too in one of the side stories. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Awesome, thanks for the screens. It looks good, but of course gameplay is the main thing. Lets keep our fingers crossed, ah hell, what am I saying, its Treasure were talking about 8-) , not some third rate game company. Even Treasure's "average" games were fun. I wonder if seven force will make a return?

I'm actually hoping it is a GBA title now. It will keep some sort of 16-bit look that way. And yes I agree, 7 force needs a return!

Considering how far Treasure has fallen, I'd rather someone else make a new version. Most of the people responsible for Gunstar Heroes aren't even with the company anymore.
Just look how their GBA update to Guardian Heroes turned out.

Have you heard about Rockstar's new beat em' up The Warriors?
Anyway I'm glad that GH is getting a sequel, but I wish it was one one of the next gen systems and not the GBA. A GBA version will probably be sweet, but a GC one would be oh so much sweeter :)

Does this game have any thing to do with the cult classic 80's movie the Warriors? If so I want it. and it better come with a free baseball bat if I reserve it.

I was feeling a bit anal so I counted the original Gunstar Heroes staff members who are still working for Treasure and actually most *are* still working for the company. After over ten years that pretty impressive.
If GSH turns out to be crap, you could always try cool games like Gunners Heaven/Rapid Reload and Alien Hominid.

Anyone else notice that the player seems to have three weapon slots? So either triple combos, or switchable weapons.
Those graphis look a little too busy for my tastes but I'm certainly going to give this game a chance before I say much about it. I also say the chances of 7 force being it are low, unless you get to CONTROL it, since....well, if you've beaten the original you know.
Now, since treasure is making sequels...YUKE YUKE TROUBLEMAKERS DS PLZ.

GBA? damn I was hoping for a PS2 or next-gen sequel :(
Oh well I guess its a miracle that Treasure is making a sequel at all since for sooo many years they said that the developer would never make sequals to their own games.

The game looks truly excellent already. Astro Boy was fantastic, and I actually really liked Advance Guardian Heroes. I think a lot of people missed the point with that one. Add in the mention of the small homages to Sega, and it looks even better. This is on the very top of my want list.

The new yet scarce info at IGN was cool. I like the idea that Read and Blue will have different stages as opposed to both playing through the same exact ones. The new screens are cool too! This, along with Chaos Field (GCN) and Zelda (GCN) are my most anticipated releases for 2005.

The movie has knocked the pesemistic opinions right out of me. I believe this will be one hell of an experience. Even if it falls just short of the origional, it should still be spectacular.

I'm extremely excited about this one, except for the fact its on the GBA, and the GBA platform doesn't exactly lend itself very well to a 2 player experience...which was probably my favorite part about the original Gunstar Heroes. Either way, it looks like alot of fun, and I can't wait. Also, it looks like they're adding some more hand to hand moves in it:

Seeing as this is being created by the same people responsible for the original Gunstar, it should be an excellent ride. I'm also noticing some influence from Alien Soldier, from the shooting poses and choice of weapons (you choose from sets of three weapons, as opposed to the old mix-and-match).
The GBA has always been excellent for 2D games, when put in the right creative hands. Treasure's really going to have fun with this.

I happy that they're going to include elements from the previous game for the fans (something that a lot of companies sadly don't do anymore, everything needs to be flashy, bleh).
