First of all - that is a nutso price for a cart only copy of that game. And secondly, as I have just pointed out to him via the "Ask Seller a Question" ... this is definitely not the rarest PAL Megadrive game!!
OK, it probably is a bit scarcer than Mega Man & Alien Soldier, the high profile 'r@re' games. But it's not got a patch on Fatal Fury 2 in the rarity stakes - and a good many others would probably outstrip it too, such as:
Death and Return of Superman, Saturday Night Slammasters, The Punisher, Ecco Jr., Art of Fighting, Daze Before Christmas ...

It's funny cus' I have an empty box and manual for that game PAL aswell, but im not paying that price for it.
you forgot to mention the Acclaim Spider-man (animated version) which is rarer than Seperation Anxiety, as I have only seen it once on ebay and won it £7 LOL .

Yeah, there's maybe a dozen that would have a better claim to 'rarest PAL game' than that. I'd say it's arguably more common than Wily Wars aswell.
The Acclaim Spiderman slips by every now and then on the quiet - a few weeks of searching every 'Spiderman' paid off for me and I got one for €3. Seen at least 4 or 5 since then.

Fatal Fury II was an Australian only release was it not? Hence is the reason why it is considered rare in the UK and other countries...
I would definately cast Alien Soldier up there as one of the top "General release" rare games (Promo's and imports not included)
Street's Of Rage III I wouldn't class as rare as such. More like *Highly sought after* rather than rare. It only commands such a high price tag because demand outweighs supply. Ok, it may have been a late release, but is still one fo the best games on the Mega Drive, hence why it is so popular.
I would say Landstalker and Gunstar Heroes can also be considered as some of the rarer few games.
Separation Anxiety - I would say was a medium rare if anything. Falls way short of being one of the top most rarities

Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes and Landstalker are not "rare".
Alien Soldier might be an expensive uncommon, but Gunstar Heroes is dead easy to find, just in high demand - there's 5 PAL copies on eBay right now, for example.
Landstalker is a mid-uncommon in the UK, but the French & German versions are also dead easy to find.
Seperation Anxiety is easily rarer than all 3 of those.

Agreed on Landstalker, Alien Soldier and Gunstar Heroes. - however, I also think that Wily Wars is not so hard to find as people make out. In this country perhaps, but if you start looking abroad, I am pretty sure that I could come up with more copies of Wily Wars than of Separation Anxiety. Maybe this is because Wily Wars is known to be highly sought after, I don't know.
But if someone asked me to get them a copy of Wily Wars and Separation Anxiety, I think that I would be reasonably confident of finding Wily Wars first.
The Spiderman : Animated Series is pretty hard to find, although on the continent it seems to be more common. If you got one for £7 you did pretty good, I would say - I think I sold mine for £35 :D

Yeah, quite a lot of the ones we think of as being among the 'top' rares (eg. Spiderman: Animated Series, Izzy's Quest, Addams Family Values, all the Capcom-published games, all the later SunSoft games) are a lot easier to find outside the UK, mainly in Germany. Just a shame that so many German sellers still don't ship abroad or take PayPal.
Wily Wars is one that's under observation - it got the R7 rating since there were only 2 copies on eBay during the 4/5 months I was gathering data a while back. I've been thinking about tweaking it to R6 though since there's always a steady stream.
There's a few other titles I'm watching that may be adjusted slightly, pending further research (I can concentrate properly on it now I've finished my SMS collection ;) ).

Make no mistake, its rare here too. Then again, theres a pretty big list of games that are very uncommon/rare in Australia..... Thank you very much ozisoft. :/
Ebay.com.au is as good a guage as any for Au exclusives rarity (not price though).Australia doesnt really have the density of America, Japan or Europe to be able to estimate rarity "in the wild". My personal peg for rarest PAL MD game: Art of fighting- the only rare MD game ive never even seen a box shot of.
Props to Anagrama for the great job hes doing- the Au exclusives seem spot on. On that note, I havent seen a Wily Wars on ebay for a very long time either, so maybe theres a surge in the pipeline on ebay.com.au.
Im not sure if Separation Anxiety got an Ozisoft release.. Theres a SA in the OFLC (australian ratings gimps) Database but I think its the SNES version. That makes your job easier i guess anagrama :)
As a sidenote, whats the going rate for a Masters of Combat Master System?
edit: most. disjointed. post. ever.

Cheers! ;) I try to keep a fairly close eye on eBay.au aswell, since even with shipping costs it's often cheaper than eBay UK (just nabbed one of the Ozisoft double-packs the other day ;) ).
Art of Fighting is definitely another of the top few, but I've seen at least 3 or 4 on eBay UK/Germany since the start of the year.
Masters of Combat is a funny one - it's probably the 2nd rarest PAL SMS game after Smurfs 2, but I've seen prices vary from £2.20 to £50+ (I got the £2.20 one :D ). There's one on eBay UK now which is the first in quite a while (ignoring a £4 BIN that disappeared almost instantly!).
It was at around £16 last time I looked, and I'll expect it to go higher before the end. As a general guide, £20-£30 is probably about right.

Heh, Gotta love the double pack auctions.. Any auction with 2 games in the title can yield unexpected results-
Italia World Cup '90/Combat Cars double Pack (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8183009741&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1)
and
Sonic 2/Global Gladiators Double Pack (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27238&item=8184669446&rd=1)
I got the WC90/CC one but forgot to bid on the Sonic 2 one. Been meaning to post 'em in the guide forum but keep forgetting :)

Thanks! - they're both new ones to me :) I'll add them in next time I update. (It was the Robocop vs. Terminator/Winter Olympics double pack that I got).

imn glad to hear all these good comments about Separation Anxiety! i picked a copy up at the car boot at the weekend for £2 and its totally mint! seriously!
Also the fact that Megaman isnt as rare as "SA" gives me a great feeling as its one im trying to get hold of, along with Alien Soldier!
Cheers guys!

Art of Fighting is definitely fairly rare .. but as anagrama said, there seem to be a few copies coming out of the woodwork now, perhaps as people are realising it can fetch a decent price.
Whether that trickle continues remains to be seen.
Although if anyone is a after a copy, I have three at the moment :D
One is sealed, but that one is already spoken for .. hopefully gonna trade it for some nice goodies that I very much want.
The other two are open to offers though. Both complete, but one has a slightly battered manual.

I agree also that Art of Fighting is fairly rare I had never seen s PAL copy before picking it up in my local Gamestation a year or so back, but after that I have see a fair few on ebay.
Alien Soldier & Wily Wars are very easy to pick up on ebay, paying a small price for them though is another matter.
I also think Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings is a fairly rare game (I have an unboxed copy), but not as rare as the Spider-man game and Art of Fighting.

Same here - got mine for the 2.99 opening bid as it was just listed as "Spider Man". Bagged Art of Fighting for £4 from a market a while ago too. I haven't tracked down a good copy of Aero 2 or Normy's yet, and a complete Madden '97 is proving surprisingly difficult.

I always thought Fifa '98 was a really difficult title to bag, I got both Aero games off ebay a long time ago I think it was £9 inc. p+p. So that was'nt bad.

Yeah, Normy's is another one that's a bitch to find.
Madden '96 & '97 are both surprising rares aswell, though fortunately it's fairly easy to get them for a couple of quid when they do pop up.
In contrast, FIFA '98 is fairly easy to find, even though it's one of the last 2 games released in Europe. Much scarcer than the other FIFA's though.
by the way, in response to some discussion sparked by this thread, I've changed Mega Man to R6 (from R7), and moved Izzy's Quest up from R5 to R6.
Any feedback on this or any of the other values is always welcome. :)

Yeah I think Izzy's Quest did need to be noched up to R6, it seems to be of similar rarity as Mega Man.

While we are on the subject of rare MD games, what about Foreman for Real? I think that is pretty rare too, R6 seems an ok rarity rating it's sort of in between R5-R6 rarity.
What do you think anagrama?

Yeah, it's R5 currently: http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=30290
I think that's about right. It's another thats possible to pick up for just a couple of quid though, if you time it right
btw, did anyone see the Art of Fighting finish for just £4.30 yesterday? Seems like repeated appearances are indeed bringing that one down ;)
