Okay, so I bought the PSP's hack and slash "RPG" if you could call it that, since I'm an RPG kinda guy. Now I've invested about 20 hours into it..and I still don't see any kind of coherent plot. Not to mention the little plot that there is is just really lame. I wish they did a better job with this launch title. What Irks me more is that it's so "successful" that they're making an "Untold Legends II". This is really one of the worst RPGs I've played.

I'm not saying your criticism isn't warranted (I have it as well, and I like it despite its flaws), but if you've been able to play it for 20 hours...is it really that bad? I know if I hated a game I couldn't play it for nearly that long.

Hmm...I've seen lots of pretty bad reviews for this game but everyone I've talked to about it that owns it loves it. It's just like a diablo hack em up right? Doesn't really surprise me there's really no emphasis on the story at all. If you've played it for 20 hours you must have enjoyed the gameplay a little bit right? If you're looking for a better story you'll probably have to move on.

Oh and by the way, I loved the thread title, it was hilarious.

Yeah, it's a Diablo clone. Light on major story (though it IS there) and high on character development and customization. If you ask me, the latter definitely makes up for the former. It's by no means perfect, but as a portable game that can be enjoyed solo or w/ a group of friends, it certainly works.

Well, I'm just big on portable games (and rpgs), and it and Mercury have been the only things on the PSP so far that can hold my attention. It is a diablo clone, but the character development is even limited I thought. Sure there's a billion weapons, but there's not really that many options. It seems like I'm just leveling up and going through quests that are nothing more than hit hit hit hit hit "you've finished the quest!" Not to mention it's way too easy. I haven't had a problem with any part at all.

I love Diablo but couldn't imagine playing in it single player mode. Without other people to trade and play with it would get real boring in a hurry. I kind of think that single player RPGs need to ensure a better storyline.

Nice post heading!

LOL

I haven't played this one, but now i'll give it a try just to see how bad it is. I also need to pick up that Todd McFairlane game that got such bad reviews a while back. I love playing shitty games (for a few minutes.)

Cheers

I just beat this game the other day and I enjoyed it. Sure it's not the best RPG ever, and the story isn't the greatest, but it's a fun game that keeps you interested. I enjoyed hacking my way through tons of enemies and while the game wasn't hard, it never felt boring. I can't wait for UL 2 :)

Does it have the same look as Diablo?!

Excuse me if I sound stupid here.. can you play wirelessly with the PSP, and if so with this game?! Reason I ask is 'cause my friend and I used to play Diablo II: LOD all the time.

Yes it is up to four player locally although you can use tunneling software to play over the internet.

I give it a "meh" as well. It's just way to repetivitve. Run around, kill stuff, grab stuff, wear stuff, sell stuff, repeat. I'm sure it's more fun during multiplayer, but since I don't know anyone else with a PSP I don't have much choice but to go solo. :(

It LOOKS good though. :)

Im a few hours into the game myself. I asked around a lot before I decided to buy it, and the answer was universally "it's ok". I now agree. It is an OK game, and good enough for now since I want something to play that I can kind of get into for longer periods of time than Wipeout or Lumines, but this game is going to hit the skids when GTA comes out in a couple of weeks, and possible when MVP 2005 comes out next week. I'm just trying to hurry up and finish it so I can trade it back in at this point.

Speaking of Diablo... Blizzard should port Diablo II to the PSP. Even though it is an older game, I still think it would be cool on WIFI.

Or to the X-Box or the PS2! I'd immediately buy a new Diablo game for the homeconsoles, even if it is an old one. Or they could make a Diablo 3, that would even be better! The Baldur's Gate and Champions Of Norrath games are qutie successfull, I'm sure a new Diablo game would be a success, too!

that's what sequels are for, usually. i think soe is going to add a few things in ul2 to make the game more involving for those who want more plaot, but those of us that love these sorts of games are going to pick them up anyway.

besides, how many hack & slash games like this actually have something resembling an earth-shakin' storyline? unless someone does something cool like bring some of those old tsr games back or well, does a bang-up job at presenting a story so that you want to get sucked in seconds after the loading stops (lol), well... just grab your sword and start choppin' LOL

although, i must admit, soe must have been rushed somewhat in getting the game out with the lousy intro screen and that scrolling text...

I loved it, but I'm a sucker for these since they're kinda like beat-em-ups. Character building is always intruiging to me. Sure, it's lacking in areas (music specificlaly) and the load times suck. That's ok, it still provides some solid gameplay. Multi-player is a blast. It definitely has room for improvement no doubt, but I stand by my score of a 7/10 when the review is posted.
