Colecovision - Buzzing and Lines on the screen...

I got a Colecovision from World of Games.

BASICALLY... it works. EXCEPT that there are these 'lines' that seem to be RF interfereance of some kind scrolling down the screen with a buzzing sound.

I've tried two Auto TV Switches... two cords and two manual switch boxes and one straight adaptor on this and nothing seems to work....

Anyone have an idea of whats wrong? I'm gonna go search for a thicker..more insulated cord right now in this house...

Tried it on a Real TV rather than the Commodore Monitor hooked to the VCR....and same deal. Lines and buzzing noise.

dunno how good that shows it.

But basically..the games will play..the sound works as normal as it can with a Monotone buzzing in the background... just those lines and the Buzzing.

Sometimes it fades out for a split second, too... and now the screen seems to climb up and down occasionally.

I also tried the following now:

Moved the Coleco FAR FAR away from the power supply. No eefect.

Changing the channel on back. made a slight difference but not much. Still the line.

is there supposed to be a "Special" RF cord I'm using with this?...

Could be...

bad RF cord (nothing special needed)
bad TV switch box (use an RF-to-COAX adapter instead)
bad RF unit (in system)
bad power supply
interference on ac at the outlet


I tried like...three cords. Same difference each time.

Tried a RF to Coax adaptor. Tried three switch boxes. Tried three Other systems switch boxes.

Bad RF unit - he's sending me a new Deck, so I'll guess we'll see on that one.

Bad Power Supply - I Can't test this... but nothing seems wrong with it. I can borrow my friends I suppose to test it.

Interferance on the AC at the Outlet - I tried a few different outlets...and extension cords..and power surge protectors. and nothing changed.

I've heard before that cleaning or replacing the power switch may help.

Never tested this myself though.

Yes, the power switch on the system is a definite possibility. In fact, they're known to be troublesome.

AFA bad power supply, by 'bad' I meant weak (putting out voltages lower than required). You'd need to meter it to see if that's the case, unless you had another one to try.

All the pins seems to be putting out thier right voltages. So..must be the console then. Luckily I'am getting a new one. I'm still gonna fix this one thou if I can... as I still get to keep it...probably gonna make this my mod-learning system.

Sorry again about that, but I was telling him that when i use a Genesis 1 rf on the system, it works perfect, has anyone else tried this?

I DO...

that little dinky one was the 2nd TV I used as a TEST Rig to make sure it was'nt the TV setup I was using causing the problems. ;P

If you mod it for composite or s-video, the problem may just go away if it's caused by the rf modulator. Happened to me once on a 2600.

In This Case, the problem was found out to be a Faluty Power Supply.
