It's a show where they help people clean out bthere houses that are huge junk piles. After they clean outbthe house it all goes out side and the people are made to put stuff in 3 piles.
Pile 1 = Keep
Pile 2 = Toss (as in trash)
Pile 3 = Sell (they have a garage sale on the show)

So this lady is sorting out her stuff and she starts keeping Cabbage Patch and other dolls (she says these will be worth something someday) , Holiday sweaters (tons of them), a basket collection, and a Goonies Board Game (apparently her son was in the movie, pretty cool).

Anyway when she comes to an Atari 2600, a Commodore 64 , and a bunch of games for both she says "Toss" not in the keep pile nooooooo, not in the sell pile so a nice DP person has a chance. IN THE DAMN TOSS PILE!!!!!! I WILL NEVER WATCH THAT STUPID SHOW AGAIN. IT WILL TAKE DAYS FOR ME TO GET OVER THIS.

Thank you I feel better now :)

Send the producers a copy of the DP guide, and see how long it takes for future game collections to end up at least in the "sell" pile. :)

My girlfriend told me about an episode where they had the guy (husband/boyfriend/whatever) throw out the boxes and manuals to some games and keep the cartridges to "save space". He wasn't a collector or anything, but I still thought that was a little screwed up (I mean...console game boxes don't take up THAT much space). I've always wondered what these shows would do if they encountered anyone with a serious game/arcade collection in their house.

Okay... When I saw the title of this topic, I got chills, man. Serious chills. I wonder if there is any way to put a girlfriend/spouse BLOCK on that station.

Wha~! HGTV's usually pretty cool. I think the onlt two things I watch on tv anymore is that channel and CSI. Anyway yhat woman's just nuts. And unless she's got some original cabbage patch dolls I seriously doubt hers will be worth squat in the future.

I did see a show last night on that cheannel where a guy was buying a new house, and fill a spare bedroom with arcade cabnets. Although they really didn't give you a good lok at any of them. The one he was playing had a big sword graphic laying across the joystick "area".

I saw a guy get rid of his whole Saturn/Genesis/Sega CD/N64 setup w/tons of games on that show. SOOOOO depressing cause I saw them sell in the yard sale. It hurts to watch when they're already irrevocably gone before you could EVER get em...

Yea I was flipping the channels where the husband had to toss items in the trash pile. He threw away all his game console boxes. The ones I could see were a Neo Geo, Dreamcast, Snes, Xbox and PS2.

Everytime my wife watches that show with me around she jokes she's gonna do that to my stuff :)

I don't really watch it, but I do remember one specific bit of one episode: as incentive to sell stuff during their garage sale, each spouse gets to choose an item that they get to keep instead of giving to charity. This dude put his N64 and games up against I'm not sure what, and lost. Very disconcerting :)

In reference to an earlier post: I've totally considered tossing boxes in order to save space. If I can't display the game inside the box I'm getting to the point where I'd rather toss the box than keep it sitting around in the basement collecting dust. Almost anyway :)

I'd throw the wife away before I threw away my games.

Oh god, that's the stuff of nightmares.

If someone tried to do that to my crap I would seriously stab them. In the face.

I've watched the show several times too. While I would LOVE to have these guys come over and help me organize, I fear what they would do to my collection.

"You don't need these boxes, throw them away"
"You don't need two copies of this rare game, throw this other one away"
"You have too many games, for every 2 you keep, throw one away"

I do, one anyway, My Dad :) , but he dosen't try to throw my games out. He shakes his head at them and smiles, but thats all.

The shows ok, but there are like 10 of them that she watches. Luckily only this one has thrown out games so far.

Why would they just toss them out without even trying to sell them? I mean, if they're have a yardsale like you said they sould atleast try and get some money for them. Seems pretty dumb to me.

LOL

Yeah, this show and Trading Places or whatever the hell it's called need to be banned. In a way I'm glad I'm not the only one who's forced to watch these shows ... but at the same time, I feel for the rest of you guys, I really do. I'd be horrified if my girlfriend told me we were going on that show.

On an unrelated note, just out of curiosity, did the lady say what role her kid played in the Goonies? I love that movie ...

They're just tv show people, not exactly the gestapo. You'd just make it very clear that those things are not to be touched and cancel the episode order them out of your house if they persist.

I was also wrong earlier I said "Clean Sweep" was on HGTV, but that's "Mission Organization" which is a much better show. "Clean Sweep"'s on TLC with "Trading Spaces" I *think*. Don't like the shows as much as the ones on real home design and renovation channel.

I really despise this show, along with the rest of the TLC pantheon (What Not to Wear, Trading Spaces, etc). I've only watched bits and pieces of a few of these shows when my fiancee was interested in watching them--never of my own accord and never willingly (but she'll sit through and politely watch a Star Trek show with me, so quid pro quo). I just detest the idea of an outsider having to come in and organize someone else's life. I mean, take the reins of your own life, for God's sake, and take charge yourself! It's probably because I'm already ultra-organized and know how to I want to arrange and store things in the most efficient and pleasing manner, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to take charge of your life, much less a camera crew. Ugh, it boggles my mind and disgusts me. The very idea is anathema to me.

I actually like to watch clean sweep with my GF. But only for 1 reason, I love seeing the guys win the yard sale and keep their item. The women win 80% of the time, but it is always a great victory for men everywhere when they get to keep their old 8 track collection and the wife has to throw away her doll set. I really like it when the women refuse to give away their item. Nothing like watching a sore loser cry.

Damn dude, relax it is only TV, lol. I'd say half of the made over rooms are changed back to the way they were within a month and if a couple gets to have fun and get on TV, why not?

At least they are not TV movies like "Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?" - now THAT'S something to rage about!

I bet alot of the people that have the rooms done just end up filling it back up with more crap.
Every time I clean up, organize, rearange my game collection (display area) within 2 weeks it looks like a bomb hit it. Shopping bags filled with stuff piled on shelfs games eveywhere, then I have to reorganize, move stuff to closet etc.

But back on topic.
I did see one episode where a guy sold his N64 system with a couple of games at the garage sale, and I remember say , " wow I would never pay that much for that." I can't remember how much it was but then again I'm cheap.
