I definetly will get it because i do'nt have Xbox Live and i can't even get broadband where i live. unfortunately broadband is only available to people right in town, which i am not. also i'm a sucker for everything related to halo, i luckily had a dentist appointment on decemer 9, but i thought it was November 9th, so i got out of school and i went to the mall and got my preordered collectors edition. anyways i'll be getting the map pack disk if there are some good outdoor maps on it. i loves me some outdoor maps.

I am a totally retrogamer, and yes I am getting the expansion. I am going to buy the disc so that I can play the maps later even after I dont have Xbox live.

Halo 2 is not the and all of gaming, but it is one hell of a multiplayer online experience. I have logged well over 800 online matches, and it had made Xbox live worth it if you ask me...even with all the probs they have.

For console shooters, it is one of the best multiplayer experiences you can have online

Modded Xbox. :embarrassed: The modchip could be turned off and I played fine like that on Live for months. Then one day I went to play Spikeout single player mode, and I had the modchip on. I guess that the game tried to sign in to Live automatically and boom, I was banned.

It just kind of irritates me that I was banned for that but cheaters have been able to get away with playing on Live (hopefully not anymore with the recent changes?)

Dont knock it until you try it. There are a ton of people like you out there. Some people just dont get FPS games and some people are just too much of a fanboy/girl of another system to want to play anything else. :/

You know that you can get a device called a Frag Box that allows you to use a keyboard and mouse with Xbox FPS'.

Anyway since I don't even have H2 yet I'll probably wait untill they release a version that has both discs, so I won't have to buy two seperate things.

I've always had mixed opinions about expansion packs. On the one hand, it gives you the ability to add on extra content to extend play. On the other hand, it could encourage developers to leave out elements just to sell them separately down the road, and lead to something like this...

How could you hate the c hanges? I love how grenades and melees are more Halo 1-ish, makes those of us who doesn't like dual wielding much more competitive. I enjoy the old halo 1 style close range battles, where btoh sides are trying to land that blow.

The increased accuracy of the battle rifle and the upped damage of the brute shot are both nice too.

I'm with the Captain. I find it annoying that I finally learn to play with certain strategies and now they all go out the window.

They weakened the magnum so badly that you can fire an entire clip (12 shots) straight into your opponents head and not completely weaken his shield.

Before, you tossed a grenade in the hopes that it'd weaken your opponent (it rarely did enough to matter). NOW, you can use them more effectively-they WILL weaken your opponent, they can be used to kill people trying to hide, to flush out campers, as a substitute for the plasma pistol when using the battle rifle, or, in objective games, to clear out defenders in bases(especially prevalent on Midship). I'd argue they're one of the most useful changes of all, and add a new dimension to the game.

Of course, I'm an old hand-I played Halo multiplayer for two years, so I was much more used to the grenades from that game. These ones still aren't as good as those, and I'm thankful for that, really, but they aren't slouches anymore, either. I liked the extra strategy they brought into Halo, and I like how they actually HAVE a strategic use in Halo 2 now.

Yep, the grenades are now too powerful. They seem more powerful to me than they did in the original. I have also still witnessed cheating. The flag just dissapeared in front of my eyes on Waterworks and they scored around 10 seconds later.

I literally JUST finished Halo 2 as I noticed this thread. I had decided tonight to finish the game and get it over with. The end credits are rolling as I type this. Now I see why so many people are pissed off with this game. I killed that "Wookie with the hammer" and all of a sudden there's a FMV with Master Chief saying "I'm gonna finish this fight"....and that's IT!?!?!?!?! Game over?!?!?!? (besides the extra FMV at the end)

I'm not the greatest Halo fan...but this game was overly drawn out, way too big as far as environments go, had way too many overpowering enemies on the screen for much of the time, was boring as hell for 80% of it, confusing as hell to keep straight and has such a harsh "ending". A map feature would have been nice. Then I wouldn't have wasted so much time wandering around wondering where the hell I was supposed to go and what I was supposed to do.

I'm sorry...but that's enough Halo 2 for me. It's one of those games where I'm glad that it's over. I wouldn't play Halo 2 again if you paid me....but I'll play the original Halo over and over again anytime.

One thing that kept bothering me was this. I can run around with a 10-ish pound plasma rifle in each hand....but I can't run around with a 10 pound plasma rifle in one hand and a 5 pound plasma sword in the other?

I could use nades just fine before. It was all a matter of placing the toss just righ. Now any n00b can throw a nade and get a kill. It pretty much levels the playing field a bit. I have to admit the nades do compliment the battle rifle well in close quarters though.

And I wasnt talking about using the magnum by itself.... But sometimes I would dual wield pistols. Now that they have been toned down I wont be using that combo anymore :/

They confirmed last week that they will reset the ranks sometime in the next couple weeks. They're also changing how the system works so that people can gain levels faster, and as a result, be more spaced out when they finally plateau. As it is, most people are in the same 5 level bracket, when they don't necessarily have a similar skill level.

Those new maps rock. I like how much more "ambushy" they are, with all the corners and nooks to move through. We did a nice CTF game on Containment earlier before I went to work, and it was so hectic despite the size.

the second premium content download is "supposedly" being released the same day the actual $19.99 disc is being released, so, if your getting the cd you won't have to wait more than maybe a day or two (based on store shipments)

Containment is freaking huge.

I'm having trouble with the new maps. About half the time I try to join a custom game, and I get the "You failed to load the map" error tho I have both maps and can join other custom games.

It's a brand new xbox, and I never got that error before downloading the maps.

I did however have to download them twice since it failed the first time. I thought that was due to bandwidth issues since everyone was prolly downloading them the same day.

Any ideas?

Containment is the best IMO followed by Turf.
Capture the flag games on Containment rule ! I can see Turf as being a great place to play "Zombies" I cant wait for them to be added to matchmaking :D I have learned new ways of getting on top of Turf allready and know how to get on top of Containment as well :evil:

There is a super jump on Sanctury too ;) Tried to learn as much as possible about the new maps before they go into matchmaking so I will have an upper hand :-P Running mock CTF and slayer games to learn which routes are best and where the best combos are.

This new content has made me happy. And Bungie is smart to release it the way they have :/ I mean you know everybody will buy the downloads and the disc. Very smart on thier part.

Found a couple of cool glitches with the levels allready ;)


You can get over the invisible barrier on Containment and explore the upper part of this massive map. It can be done with sword canceling or using a spectre in the right spot.

Also on Containment you can see the image of one of the creators of Halo on the HALO surface if you zoom in with the sniper rifle. His face is hard to miss. He has a gotee and a huge smile (smiling because he has made so much money?)

Turf roof tops can be reached near the medical tent by doing a series of jumps onto the window over hangs then onto the brick wall at the end of the street then upto the roof.

You can also access the roofs by setting up a "stunt" game.
This would be a game type you custom make. Make everybody have overshields , rockets and swords. Then only the host of the game can do this trick however.....
You must stand on the center post of the shield barrier things near the medical tent and fire a rocket directly at the top of the shield. if done properly it will catapult you up to the top of the level and you need to direct yourself to a roof top.

Warlock's center piece can be reached with friends and the use of sword canceling.

Sanctury I have not really explored glitches yet , but I know of one "super bounce jump" on the level.

Anybody else try to find level glitches yet ?

If you were to get a new eeprom and hdd it just might work... (make sure your unlock old drive before doing all this) Also try and get an xbox live blocking bios to prevent accidental sign ins

EDIT: As for the disk... ill have to wait and see how much it is.. .although £40 for an addon disk is very steep

I downloaded the new levels but haven't been able to play them much (I've been sick so FPS games make me feel nauseous). I like Turf a lot though from what I've played -- they should make more "urban" maps.

We're talking "see the scarab from the rooftop" on turf, and "see nearly the whole goddamn level" in containment.

I played a few of the new maps this week online. They're great! There's one called Warlock that is identical to Wizard, but looks better. It was a lot of fun running around killing each other with shotguns and swords. There's another one called containment which is pretty cool. It's like two forts with a death trap inbetween.
The new maps are definately worth owning if you plan on playing lan multiplayer, and especially worth owning if you play online.

Well, we played the other day, and the screen says "waiting for players to download map." Everyone gets upset. Eventually the person lacking leaves. To avoid waiting, it would probably help if you use your buddy list, that way you know who has the new maps.

On page 2 of this thread I did go into some detail about some fun glitches I found. I can get on top of the Scarab as well with my rocket/overshield/host trick ;) The view of the bridge when you are on top of the scarab is sweet !
