Mortal Kombat SNES Competition Edition

Someone enlighten me on this.

Are ALL of the SNES MK carts labeled like this one?

Mine is as well, I was just curious if there is any variant here I should know about and will modify our Guide entry accordingly.

I know mine was like that. I think "Competition Edition" was their way of saying "No Gore".

You know, I want to say that I am 99% sure they all say this and ARE the same Rom. However, if you look at the Ebay stock photo here:

It is missing.

As far as I can remember, I have NEVER seen this Competition on the label of the carts, just the boxes, which leads me to believe this was just a clever subtitle kind of like "Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition" on the Genesis.

EDIT: I agree with the above poster, I think this means maybe that this version had the blood changed to sweat, unlike the genesis.

I've seen a few of the MK carts around but i don't think i've seen one without the competition edition written on it.

I think when Nintendo said there couldn't be gore in their version, they slapped that on the box or something.. Maybe it didnt fit on the cart?

Mine has the "competition edition" thing. I don't think that there was a non-"competition edition" version.

Indeed, they're all "Competition Edition." As others have posted, the "Competition" label is just Acclaim/Nintendo's lame attempt at telling everyone that there's no gore in the game.

Their marketing personnel felt that "Competition Edition" worked better than "Crappy No Gore Edition."

Competition Edition is written on every single one of them pretty much.

I remember, there was a game genie code to turn the sweat into a different color, so that it would look like blood. I wonder what it looked like.

My friend has a version that does not say competition on it. I was actually playing it the other day and noticed that. so no, not all of them say competition edition on them.

The box is the only thing that says it , The cart does not IIRC.

Mine is the same way! I was thinking at first the Genesis version has it too, but I just checked and it doesn't.
