View Full Version : Any games out there not even worth a dime?

I would have to imagine that there are some games out there that might not even be worth a dime. I figure that most Genesis sports games are still worth at least a dime, just because you can always find a sucker that will pay a Quarter for them.

With Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, most think that it isn't even worth a nickel, but still sometimes people will pay a $1 for this, thinking that it's worth something.

I guess same thing goes with Combat for Atari 2600.

Games are worth what the next sucker will pay for them.

But what games would you not buy, even if they were only 10 cents?

Back in the day, Funcoland had Mario/Duck Hunt carts for 9 cents a piece. So they weren't worth a dime.

Gameplay-wise, Duck Hunt is definitely worth more than a dime while many games aren't. I remember a couple really awful Jaguar games that aren't worth a nickel...both the ones I'm thinking of are racing games. One was Checkered Flag and the title of the other escapes me. The "cars" look more like children's blocks than motor vehicles...

I wouldn't pay a NICKEL for Superman 64, let alone a dime. It's barely worht three pennies of play, maybe less. But don't ask me just how much, as I'm bad at math.

I don't think I'd pay a dime for Shaq-Fu on the Game Gear, but I might just so I have more to laugh at. Depends on the condition of the cart, if it's complete, and if I can get a refund afterward. 8-)

the guy game

i mean..that's worse than paying for a stripper.
as for the extremely common games, i second that some of them may have no collector's value, but are considered fair play to those seeking the actual product.

My vote goes to Pac-Man for the 2600 or combat. there are just toooooo many floating around....

Also most of the sports titles (non EA) for genesis. Too many of those too.

and for NES, SMB/Duck hunt obviously, along with Bases Loaded 1. Toooo many circulating in my area.

Is it possible that the GG version is even worse than the 16-bit carts? Just how bad is it? i didn't even know they made Shaq-Fu for GG

:D

I know we're all cheap here but c'mon, a dime? I'd have to think that every game is worth at least a dime. In fact, I'd say that any game is worth at least a buck.

The other game you're thinking of was called Club Drive, where you could like drive around inside a house at hotwheels size, etc. Yeah, that game wasn't very good but if that idea of a "driving resort game" was brought back on the current generation hardware and was online I think it would be a blast. As for Checkered Flag there are early demo prototype versions that many magazines reviewed that were said to be running as responsive and as fluid as Virtua Racing in the arcade... but the final game turned into total crap.

...not State of Emergency or The Bouncer, both on PS2. State of Emergency was just total garbage front to back and The Bouncer was probably the most overhyped game of the past 10 years... I LOVE paying $50 for a 40 minute game where only 10 minutes of it are actual game play and 9 of those minutes are exactly like the first 1.

One of my friends used to own a 2600 and was looking for E.T., but eventually sold the 2600.

I wish he told me he was selling it too, it was a Sears Heavy Sixer I really would have liked in my collection. But that's another story.

Hmmm...10 measley cents.....

I picked up King's Knight for the NES simply because I'm a Squaresoft fan and I'd heard about how truly awful it was. I figured that it was a great opportunity to see where they had come from back in the early days. Man, how do you even play this game? Quick deaths.

its funny since i like all games...even the bad ones. but there was one game that while playing it made me cringe, and had to get rid of it in a heartbeat. and that game is mighty max for snes...*shuttering*

If you take into account flea market sales, Super Tennis for the SNES seems to be worth less than $0.10 sealed. The guy who sells games at the flea market I go to has so many sealed copies of the game, he tries to give them away when you buy any other game.

The funny part is nobody even wants the damn game.

For me personally, any Genesis sports title... and for that matter, most SNES sports titles too. I never cared for sports titles on either of those systems (and really, anything up to the current gen).

And judging by what we sell on the GOAT Store... no one wants to pay $0.25 for those games either. We've had the same cheap sports games for as long as I can remember. The only time we've sold any is when I take them and dump them at used place around town to clear up some space. I sold about 25 sports games to a used place and got a dollar, and I thought that was a GREAT deal.

As for a few other comments -- Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast surely can be played offline. I liked the idea so much I bought the Xbox version thinking I could do the same. You can't on the Xbox version.

Checkered Flag for the Jaguar was said to have much better controlling versions before the release, but apparently the frame rate slowed down or something, so they made it control like crap. You can't knock its graphics because when it came out, it was really only going up against Virtua Racing, and it isn't too ugly in comparison.

Club Drive looks absolutely horrible because for some reason they opted not to use the built in guorad (sp?) shading features of the Jaguar. So we end up with one hell of an ugly game. A game that is so ugly, it is hard to play to realize that the game underneath is actually pretty darn creative and fun. I forced myself to play everything in my Jaguar collection for a while, and Club Drive actually grows on you... Checkered Flag does not.

This thread seems to be about what games you personally wouldn't pay a dime for. Otherwise, I'd have to say that a lot of people are willing to pay a lot more than a dime for ET. At the GOAT Store, we've been listing them for $1.50 lately, and as soon as we get them in they leave within a week or two. The game has such a history that a lot of people have a morbid curiosity about it. It sells a lot quicker than a lot of the really good 2600 games that are cheaper -- like Combat, Kangaroo, Asteroids, Missile Command, Space Invaders and Super Breakout.

That's exactly what I was thinking. How cheap is everyone here? I would pay a dime for any game no matter what it was (as long as I don't already have it). I would pay $1 for any NES/Genesis/SNES game as long as it's in good shape.

I actually like to collect really putrid games. Don't know why - I guess I feel sorry for them.

same here. i feel bad for games the public kicked around. some if them can be considered redeemable if played in a certain mindframe.

IMHO, every game is worth at least a dime since the casing can be used to replace that of a damaged more valuable cart.

I've replaced many SNES game backs using sports games that no one wants.

ET for 2600..NOBODY, even noobs, wants that game!

I have 17 of them and wouldn't sell one for a dime. If you brought me 17 more I would gladly pay you $1.70 for them any time. :)

I can't think of a game that I wouldn't pay a dime for all games are worth that and more.

Now if you want to talk about worthless for play value......but I'm pretty sure that one has been covered.

Anthony1
04-22-2005, 05:18 PM
What I meant by this topic, is not so much the "worth" in terms of play value, but the "worth" in terms of valuations.

Maybe I should have phrased it like this: What games could you not be able to resale for at least a dime?

Pretend that you are at a thrift store or flea market or whatever, and you see a miscelaneous game that you have absolutely no interest in, but you can buy if for a quarter. You aren't looking for the game, you don't need the game, the game has no interest to you, but the price is super cheap. Basically, what I'm asking is what games could be in this type of scenario, and you would still totally avoid buying them.

I think I would buy any game for a dime. I would trade it, if I had it or us the backing for a rare game that I have where the backing is all messed up.

Every licensed NES cart ever made is worth more than a dime to me. They're most useful for swapping parts. Whenever I find an SMB/DH for less than $1, I always check the back of the cart. If the back looks good, I buy it. Then I swap it with a grungy back of another NES game in my collection. If I don't have any bad looking backs to swap it with I keep it until I need it.

Mayhem is easily the worst wrestling game ever made...
