I'm working on a project right now that would house a Genesis 2, 32X and SegaCD 2 in one unit. I was planning on cramming the deal into an empty Saturn case and mounting the SegaCD in front of the 32X to make use of the Saturn Cart port and CD flip-lid, but it's too big to fit in there. Now it's back to the drawing board. I was thinking maybe a PS2 large flip-top case, but I don't know. Another possibility would be a front-loading SegaCD with everying else in a version 1 3DO case...I was wondering if anyone out there could offer some useful info on a few things like what machine might be big enough to fit this monster, and how can I jimmy a flexible connection (like with wire or something) between the SegaCD and the Genesis. Oh, and just for the record, until I find out that someone already did this and named it, I'm calling it "Project Io" (somewhere between Mars and Neptune but really close to Saturn ;) ".
Thanks!!

Rigging up a flexible connector would be a piece of cake, you could use some different types of card edge connectors, and solder a ribbon cable on to them. OR, if memory serves me right, you could even desolder the old cart connections on the genesis and move it around a bit if you want, or hardwire it to your 32x. Sounds like a pretty interesting project though! Just don't let it end up being a bunch of crap in a cardboard box! I would HIGHLY recommend tracking down some schematics for each of these systems so you don't end up murdering them, I believe "Eidelon's Inn" has some for all three systems, just google that name and it should be one of the first sites to pop-up.

how about put it all in a standard PC Minitower and then put custom paint and artwork to make it look like a game system

Just stick it all in a cardboard box, and write "Super Machine" on it with a magic marker...

...That's right.. I went there.

Excuse me. I don't even know where I am right now.

The cardboard box idea is really appealing! That would be kinda awesome :-P As far as stuffing it all in a PC tower, whats the point of designing anything then? You might as well NOT do the project and just slap a decent computer and set it up so it runs emu's to begin with.

I can see where Moon Patrol is coming from with the whole computer thing. It dose seem pretty much the same as a good computer with good emulator's just removing all the computer stuff so you can't play computer games, get on the net, use applications, get other emulators, get/do a bunch of other stuff, and so on! The only...let's say interesting...yeah, interesting will work...The only new, interesting thing to this idea is that you are pluging old game carts into a computer along with old console controllers and playing games.

But I just don't see this as a really great idea, unless you, the one doing it, REALLY want to, then I say, you stuff, your cash, your wish, your work, because of all of this and that great old fact of 'it's there and I can do it for no other reason except this reason that I am now stating of it's there and I can do it for no other reaon wxcept this reason that I am stating now of.....' then go for it you wacko! Have Fun!

Well, I was just stating my opinion on the computer box idea, and now that I have, I leave for now.

It's kinda been done before. Just buy that and put a 32x sans plastic on it, it should fit.

Shit! I forgot all about the CDX :-P All you would really have to do for it then is just take the plastic casing off of it and rig it up to make it look like the 32x was there all along on it.

Yes, but did the JVC X'Eye ever oficialy work with a 32X without having to do some sort of mod or hack? And did it ever look really all that good with a 32X on it?

Dunno. But if you could get a 32X running on that, then kudos! :rocker:

.... Plus you can't open the CD door when the 32x is on the X'eye...
