I was re-inventorying my collection today (transferring from pen & paper to excel) and decided to run a check on the games I own but haven't got round to playing (like, at all), yet.

Fifty-seven. Out of 283. Needless to say, I want to get this number down, so I've got a busy couple of weeks ahead of me...

Can anybody top having unplayed a whole fifth of their collection?

Sadly, yup. Even with my new stuff -- Xbox and GameCube -- that I am buying to play, not to collect I probably haven't gotten around to playing 1/5th of the games so far. In fact, until Feb. when EB was running a 'trade in two, get $10.00 bonus credit' sale, I probably hadn't played 50% of them.

The problem is that I buy a system and then tend to acquire every game I'm interested in for that system. Follow that up with having very little time to actually play games, and I end up not playing most of what I get for a long time.

I have no plans to buy any more consoles for at least three years though, and there isn't many other games that are out that I'm interested in. I should have that number back down to about 1/5th in three years... right when I'll be getting something else ;)

Yeah, I've got you beat.

At least 1/3 here, that's probably being conservative.

This is primarily a result of the TRU sales. I bought like 50+ unique PS1 games (that I kept), and the proceeds from the hundred or so copies of Mickey's Magical Mirror that I resold on ebay financed another 200 or so SNES, Genesis, and NES games, very few of which I've yet to play.

Granted, many of the PS1 games are crap, but I'll play them anyway.

How about games you have never played but really should?

I have never played the following:

Final Fantasy VII
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore

I have played most of the older FF Series, but never any of those above. I hear they are good, I wouldn't know. I even have a boxed Secret of Mana in my collection, just never fired it up!

Oh god. That is a list that I could go on and on with for a long, LONG time.

WAY over half of my games aren't played yet. I've got all of the biggest selling N64 games.....that people experienced YEARS ago...and I've yet to play.

Wind Waker? Got both guides and I've had the game since launch...yet haven't played it yet.

I dumped my PS2 and all of it's software recently because I found that with the Greatest Hits games, it was the biggest money sponge. 45 out of the 60 games that I had weren't played so I decided to cut my losses and dump it while the value was still decent. I replaced it with an Xbox since most of the Xbox library doesn't appeal to me at all, hence I'll spend less on the system overall. Everything that I buy, I intend to play more or less straight away. Cube? I literally don't spend any money on it at all. DC, NES, and PSX are all tiny amounts of software and seem to have no trouble staying that way.

I've only had my Xbox for 2 months and have already finished a good portion of the games that I bought with it. Just finished both Doom 3 and Halo 2 this week. Xbox games seem to be more "finishable" for me...I dunno why, but it's a good thing.

God, if my girlfriend ever saw that kind of logic she would weep with joy, lol. Then every day I would hear "Why can't you be more like Jdc" or "That Jdc has the right idea, is he single?"

Blah on that! I'll have to block the forums from now on, thanks! ;)

Funny you mention that. I just now have gotten (and starting to play) Ocarina Of Time and Perfect Dark.

I would say that I've played at least everything in my collection once. Most of them I've played at least an hour's worth, but a few I've only played once.

a good portion of my collection is unplayed

and, some games were played, but only put in for 5 minutes to make sure they worked

most of my nes, snes, and odyssey 2 collection are this way
i got a bunch of genesis sports titles CIB for $1 each, none of which i have tried

most new system games (PSP, Xbox, GCN, and PS2) i do invest some time in, but old games i more or less just collect

More than likely, my total of unplayed games is at about 40% right now. Most of my Dreamcast games were bought when Target was clearancing the crap out of games (nothing really rare, though), and are therefore unplayed. Basically, I buy more games than I have time for. :D

At about 50% here. Fortunately, most of the stuff I haven't played is usually due to lack of interest whether most people think it's a good game or not.

Now that being said I haven't really gotten into most of the games in my collection, played or not. I 'll usually just fire them up to check em out and see how they handle. So as far as quality time spent on a percentage of my collection, that's around 25%. My backlog of rpg's alone is around 30-40. And those are the ones I want to play.

I've played every game in my collection. Played every game for longer than five minutes? Now, that's a different story.

With the amount of free time I just don't have, combined with my impulse buying, I can say that I have roughly 50+ games that I have never played, just sitting around on the shelf, in boxes, etc. Sad, but true...

I would have to say I havent played 60% of my collection. Thats mostly because most of my collection came from those TRU sales and such.

I actually feel pressurised by the pile of unplayed games, yet the urge to buy more pushes to me harder. I tend to keep fairly accurate counts of things and I know....

I have bought 98 games this year,
I have played 16 (1 of them from the 98)
I own 1160 games
I have played 220
I refuse to work out the percentage for psychological reasons.

Add another game to the list of ones I probably wont play for a while... Viewtiful Joe 2.

I can't, all my games were played.

Nope. Every game I buy I play and test it out. Except sealed old games that I will just re-sell. I test the games out to see if it works and then to see how the game is.

I have quite a few games that I have not played and several current gen games still unopened.

About 1/3 of my collection I have played for a minute and have yet to come around to it again. Much of this stuff is RPG's in which I started them up and played to the first save point.

Too many games not enough time.

I only play about half of mine. The rest just sit there and lok pretty/

I have probably played (meaning more than just testing) less than 30% of my collection. The sad part is, a lot of those unplayed games are RPGs, so investing the time to raise that number up would be a monumental undertaking. In an attempt to combat my problem, I set up a list of play/buy games. I have a list of games I really want to buy, but represent more than a minor investment. Next to each of those titles I put the name of a game I own but haven't touched. My deal is that I'll buy the game in question when I beat it's counterpart. So far it's worked well. I finished Fire Emblem, Suikoden 2, and Zelda: Oracle of Ages and got KOTOR, Mechassault 2, and Halo 2.

I am pretty sure I have played every game in my collection, or if I have not, the number is at least under 5...not bad for 500 something games...Now, played and beat? Ha! Not many have been totally finished with, and some I need to spend more time with, but I have tried them all...
