Agreed -- I usually hate Penny Arcade but I actually got a chuckle out of this one. LOL

i think its pretty lame, as usual. it seems to me thats its a sub par comic but because of its subject matter it has a bulit in fanbase

Basically, yeah. VGCats is a better example. You HAVE to play video games to get the jokes in these strips...pretty good jokes sometimes, but it kinda cheapens the comic overall.

I've enjoyed quite a few Penny Arcade strips (but I don't like them all). I'd have to agree that VGCats is much better.

Yawn, I hate Penny Arcade. It was clever and all, but that's all Penny Arcade ever seems to be: clever, but not all that funny.

I used to like the site, but it really just seems that the creators are very, very cocky, and really just too proud of their success. I guess they have a right to be proud, to some point, but whatever. They just grate at me.

What I liked about the site was it's features, such as import reviews, but they never seemed to do enough of that. Mostly just seemed like a "blog." Blech.

I'll have to check out that VGCats site... never heard of it.

I'm just the opposite, VG Cats has been very hit or miss for me lately... well now that I think about it so has Penny Arcade. Maybe I am finally growing up and becoming an adult! YAY!

Same here, I guess I should have clarified what I meant.

VGCats, if you remove the video game/anime/D&D/whatever references, is mainly random violence and crude sexual humor. It wouldn't have a fanbase outside of the country's middle school population if there were no inside geek jokes.

Penny Arcade is pretty funny when it's actually talking about games, which is less and less often these days.

VG Cats just rules.

There seem to be surprisingly few online comics that are actually about games. People who occassionally play games, tons. Actual games, very few.

I'll have to agree that PA has been up and down lately. I have enjoyed many of the comics but a lot of their stuff I just never found funny, such as the tube ninja or whatever the hell. Never saw what was so hilarious about that. The couple of times that I've visitied the forums I thought my mind was going to explode. It has all the aforementioned cocky attitude of gabe and tycho combined in every single forum member.

Was it meant to be funny?

I think most of the penny-arcade comics are great.
Most recently the one with Slipp being gay, the Wookie and UbiSofts golf game.
Actually even those wern't that recent....

I have never heard of VGcats so i will look into that.

If it is an old site i am going to have ALOT of archives to go thru. I found PA about a year ago so i went thru alot of old comic reading.

Although I still read Penny Arcade and Userfriendly, my current fave geek webcomics are Real Life Comics (http://www.reallifecomics.com) - except when they get into those weird time traveling stories - and Ctrl-Alt-Del (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/).

I thought Penny Arcade was funny back before they felt they had to include swearing in every strip just to attract the kids.

I will always love Penny Arcade, just for this.

And then there are a bunch of other reasons that I will always love them, but this comic will always make me smile.

VGCats is really 10 times better than Penny Arcade, most PA strips are barely even about video games anymore!

That....that's classic stuff right there. ROFL

My favorite recent VGCats is this one (http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=133). If only because I've had people walk into my room during one of the particularly charming mini-FMVs that plays in the survival viewer and make the exact same expression.

I love VGcats, and I find it's far more accessuble than Penny Arcade, usually, even for the geek-insider kind of jokes. My girlfriend barely plays any games, but she still gets most of the comics. :)

This was one of my favorite (if not my favorite) webcomics. It was called Inside The Gamer's Studio. In it, the main character Whit interviews game (and a couple anime) characters. Its really good.

Its really too bad it ended, but the archive is worth a look for some good game laughs :)
