Just wanted to know what everyone has bought that has come out in 05? If so which one do you think will get Game of the Year honors.

My vote:

God Of War

Can't wait til the sequel.

Given games currently released, it's RE4. However, of this, we can all be certain: Zelda will win if released this year.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

For the amount of time that I'm going to spend playing it, believe it or not my vote goes to MLB 2K5.

If I'm going just based on what I think it will do for the gaming world, the new Zelda is my next vote... if it does in fact come out this year.

That's it right there for me. We all know Zelda is going to clean up this year. Right now though, I haven't seen anything come close to matching RE4.

RE4 followed very closely by God of War.

God of War is good but too short!!!

Resident Evil 4 is like the best game this generation.

someone mentioned Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory!, I have to say Splinter cell is a disappointment:

REASONS:

1. You can now leave bodies, shoot like a mania...
2. 4 Alarm Levels, but before then u can easily take care of the guards. After that you can still continue just loosing secondary objectives!

My personal favorite has to be splinter cell 1!!!

Resident Evil 4 or Lumines.

I'm VERY torn between RE4 and God of War.

But as others have said, once Zelda comes out the contest is over.

Resident Evil 4 or Lumines.

Chris

Lumines, being a puzzle game, will be loved by most everyone who touches it......but will win no game of the year awards. With the possible exception of Tetris (which just about took over the world), no puzzle game has been given a game of the year award, even though they are frequently the epitomy of the classic great game: easy to learn, and difficult to master.

Agreed. In many way, puzzle games are a lot like RPGs. They are a type of game that almost everyone likes and they maintain their value throughout time because they don't usually sell in as high numbers like big games (like the ones in this thread -- RE4, Zelda, God of War, etc.) but they keep people coming back for more. When people finish up a game like RE4, Zelda or God of War, they are likely to sell it to get a new game. Puzzlers aren't as likely to be resold, and the fact that they usually don't move tons like a GoY candidate does means that even the best aren't going to become GoY.

RPGs tend to fall into the same category, with only a few that have managed to break out of it... just like puzzle games.

So far, Resident Evil 4 but, like most of you have said, New Legend of Zelda should come up tops this year.

Likely the new Zelda with RE4 and God of War a really tight race for 2nd place.

one word: PSYCHONAUTS!!!!!!

either that or the upcoming xbox translation of half-life 2.

if you want a complete riot of a game that excels in EVERY aspect, pick up the former. god of war is great, mind you, but it doesn't do much original stuff (other than be very up front about its content, lol). it's one of the mot refined 3D action games made, but if want to just llaugh (and have kids who want to know what daddy's cracking up about in the other room, pick up tim schafer's fun little game). it's also great therapy for people who've been there- some of the content is absurbly true to life, despite the twisted art styles.

So far for me it's either Resident Evil 4 or Zoo Keeper. Though I must say that I've found most games I've been looking forward to this year to be dissapointments. Samurai Legend Musashi was a dissapointment of No-presents-and-school on christmas proportions, and Suikoden 4, while good, paled in comparison to the other 3.

Hmm,So far I would have to say

Resident Evil 4

God of War

Jade Empire

Hmmm. i cant really pick which one though, they are all very good. I would suck as a game reviewer.

God of War > Resident Evil 4 > Lumines > Jade Empire.

That's how I'm voting.

Zelda>RE4>Jade Empire is probably how I'll feel later.

Lumines is cool, but I can't bring myself to own that abominable (expensive, poorly contructed, and with no other games IMO) ontraption it runs on. I can see why people would vote for it though...

I'll let my (well, near) silence about God of War speak for me....

My vote so far is for Doom 3, although it won't win.

unfortunately, Zelda won't have a chance at Overall GOTY. It won't even be in the running. Reasons? A) You have to own a GameCube in order to play the game. B) It will be deemed as too kiddie to bother with....especially to go out and buy a Cube just to play it. There simply won't be enough mainstream gamers bothering to play it. It isn't a shooter, it isn't violent and it isn't morally corrupt. Sadly, there isn't a website or magazine out there that has the balls to name it Overall GOTY. They bow to what the masses want to hear.

For Cube GOTY it's no contest. I hope that they do a special edition. This is the game that I've kept my Cube around for.

Sadly, there isn't a website or magazine out there that has the balls to name it Overall GOTY.

Personally, I said nothing about websites and magazines.

I answered with a should.

Like hell if I can predict what morons in the mainstream prss like.

I just gave my likely picks personally.

They can pick whatever piece of crap they want......
They will no matter what I say.

One or two D.F.P. publications might pick Zelda now that it isn't toonish (I like toonishness personally).

It isn't made by Sega, and most of the non GC games of note are extremely overrated (god of w...*cough*).

I'm not saying it's awful or nothing, and don't say it's because of the system..... RSilvergun is also very overrated, and Saturn is the best system. Ever.

(RS is pretty darn cool, but it is overrated IMO)

I like Doom 3 myself, though there are alot of FPS haters in these parts (message boards I mean) it seems......
I wouldn't pick it personally as GOY though, and the D.F.P. bitched about some aspects of it.

Of course the D.F.P. loves GofW though......

My vote goes for RE4 so far. Hopefully Zelda surpasses that though! Which will be hard being RE4 is probably in my top 10 games of all time.
I could see God of War, GT4, or Jade Empire winning it so far too. But there is ALOT of year left.

Easily Resident Evil 4.

So easily.

Chaos Theory gets an honorable mention though.

It is so difficult for me to name a title this early in the year. I only bought Resident Evil 4 yesterday, and only picked it up briefly last night, but I can see already the quality and fun I am in for :)

I think, though, my vote would go to Unreal Championship 2. From a technical standpoint, it is second to none on the Xbox. I think I would go as far as to say this is the greatest console shooter since Goldeneye. It's a blast to play.

This one is easy - God of War. If the behemoth GTA and Halo series didnt release a game last year I'd have to say its the best of the last 2 years.

Never been a huge fan of Zelda so I dont think my vote will change even then. But I hate the Cube so I wouldnt vote for any of those games anyways.

resident evil 4 no contest.
