Yeah I know in most cases the 1st party controllers are usually best but I saw a N64 3rd party controller that was shaped closer to an psx gamepad and thought that might be pretty good? What do you think/suggest?
I've heard the original is not great for fighting games.
If you could use any pad currently available for PSX what would it be?

There is one called the ProPad i believe that had the analog stick much farther over to the left. I used to have one - and it was much better then the standard t-shaped ambidexterous controllers.
Now where the hell did you get that avitar animation?

Heh, yeah I saw it from a member on another board, can't remember which since I am all over the place so I admit I swiped it from him but I don't use it on that board, I don't normally do that but could NOT resist!

I have one with a 6 button configuration that I quite like. I believe it's called a "Sharkpad". Very good for games where you don't need the z-trigger...not so good for Goldeneye and games like that. I remember playing quite a bit of Madden with that pad, and wrestling games.
SharkPads are awesome because of the metal shaft on the thumbstick. Durable and have a positive feel to them. There's also one called the Pelican SuperPad which has a larger body with the "wings" cut off and larger C-buttons. The D-pad was good for fighters.
The problem with 3rd party controllers is that they all tried to be overly different than the original controller, so that when you went back and forth it was hard to get comfortable. I settled for the original. Good feel and nicely rebuildable. Once you memorized the positions of the C-buttons you had it made. That was most people's problem. They had to look at the controller to find them or they kept missing them at crucial moments.
