Well I couldn't find a specific titled topic about this so here I go. Feel free to stop me if I didn't search beyond page 20 of the Search engine anyway LOL
WELL...
There are custom made/modified cars out there. Another way of personalizing your mass production car in order to be different. I recently saw Rides, Overhaulin' and Pimp my machine so I decided to give it a try.
Now, what happens with the game consoles? Here is my Frankenstein (not detailed yet) :

I am planning to do the same with a SNES I found in the wild with a sun fading so intense that my little nephew said- Uncle, you never told me there was a Pikachu Special Edition SNES!!! O_O

Lost Monkey how'd you get the Sega logos red on those console paint jobs? Great looking pair btw, surprised you haven't shown these off earlier and I didn't see them.

some of those looks nice but I like all my systems to be ORIGINALS !!! ... my brother has some nice painted sega genesis, saturn and NES systems ...
other than that I ve had some thoughts/ideas of making a nice wooden console with several systems in it but I wouldn't want to destroy or put an original system to a waste... maybe if i had some extra mobos/stuff without the casings or shells maybe I can try it someday but those stuff usually need a lot of FREE TIME to be wasted LOL i have a family etc so I'm always busy LOL

I used a 2 stage metallic paint.. when applying the silver "metallic" paint, I tape off the area around the logos.. the red is actually see through, so you are seeing the original finish and logo through the red. The Gen 2 and 32X are ideal for this.. ...it wouldn't work on a Jaguar for example...

I plan on making another N64 up soon, and I will take some photos of the insides when I do. That N64 has 10 leds in it..
The TG16 has the "vents" Dremeled out and then a thin almost white (yet still translucent) plastic hot glued to the inside of the case.. I then added 3 leds and put an A/V mod on it too...

Tweaking/modifying consoles is alot of fun as long as you don't accidentally mess anything up. ;)

These pics are awesome, I'd really like to mod my Dreamcast... But I have no clue on how to do this stuff. LOL

Those are some excellent mods! Aside from shell swaps (which are a snap so they shouldn't be counted - although translucent dark green Dreamcast's kick ass) and common mods such as installing an afterburner in a GBA, modding a PS1, etc. I've done a few paint mods, nothing spectacular though, especially compared to others...
Dreamcast painted to resemble a Japanese schoolgirl sailor fuku, this actually was my first full paint mod...

(finish paint, still without a DC logo plate {which makes it look 100x better} in this picture - I REALLY need to sink a DC core into this and take some recent pictures since these are both older and not very good)
Simple gloss black Dreamcast I painted for a friend, like the Sega Sports DC but without the crappy Sega Sports logo, also a LOT more reflective and wet looking...

Yeah!
That's the spirit! \^_^/
I was talking about esthetical modifications here. The LED thingie comes as well.
Sorry, no internal modification (beyond LEDs) is being counted here. I know they're allot harder to do and do much more thingies for you, but I begun this to call up all the odd-man-out gamers that like myself had the perhaps*not*so*brilliant idea of customizing their stuff in order to individualize them.
Now I see ART out there, specially in that metallic red Genny/32X and the green LED in the bumblebee Gamecube ;)

Thanks! :)
I actually did the GameCube all at once (and learned a hard lesson about being VERY CAREFUL not to break off the two little tabs inside the GC that sense if the lid is shut) one night at like 3am. Just all of a sudden I thought "hmm.. I know, I'll disassemble my less than a year old launch GameCube, paint it and mod the LED!" The post about not being able to get the Saturn lid back on correctly - the GameCube was the same way. MY GOD for a console so easy to strip down it took me two hours of looking at another assembled GameCube system to finally figure out how the gearing went back together and even now I'm not sure how I managed to reassemble the lid.
As for the sailor fuku Dreamcast, I'm currently designing one like Cassandra's top from Soul Calibur - well it started like that but is quickly becoming more of just "another top a female anime caracter would wear that has an oversized red necktie." I'm having trouble planning out the layering. (ie this color first, tape this part, that color next, tape that part, etc.)
If someone wants to do a "first mod" I recommend swapping out your Dreamcast shell since it'll both change the apperance and you can cut your teeth on working on a console, not to mention it's easy...

(it's actually a lot darker than how it shows up in pictures - more like the "emerald" PlayStation controllers)

a friend of mine mod his colecovision and made it a colecovision JR. by cutting off the whole section that holds the controllers. and fixed it all up so you can't tell he cut it. about the size of a dreamcast now, looks sweet! but took him over 10 hours to do it.
wish i had some pictures of it..

I spent a few hours working on this one sunday afternoon.
I think I'll paint it, and do up a new custom front plate for it.
Also planning to AV mod/BIOS upgrade it.

Japanese baseball really isn't my thing. LOL But I have heard that comment before. I have a strange affixiation with the "Hornet High_Class" graphic on the player cars in the original Daytona USA (didn't like the revision to it in Daytona USA / Daytona 2001 on the Dreamcast - although that's the ONLY complaint I have with that wonderful game).
So one night, at like 3am, I was thinking "hmm.. I should mod my GameCube.. but not a solid color." I glanced up at an old Daytona USA arcade poster and well - a hornet color scheme (the insect, not the car) seemed like a good idea. (I still have a plan to do a Saturn along the lines of Daytona USA - however I've done ZERO Saturn mods ever)
I don't mean to sound like I'm hating on technical mods, because they really do blow me away and all I've seen around DP and in this particular thread are amazing. Just trying to help keep the thread on track. :)

Gamer's Garage in Westmont, Illinois does awesome custom paintings on systems. They sometimes have them on Ebay, although I can't find any now. Prices are amazingly cheap too, they'll do requests as well.

I have a question. What kind of paint do you guys use for the detailed paintings? Does it stick well to the plastic?
