Does anyone else ever wonder what happened to this series? I always thought those games did well, but there hasn't been one released since 1998. I know I enjoyed them did anyone else?

I love them both.
One of the few games I could play with my dad back in the day :)
BB2 seemed to have so much more, but sadly I haven't had the time to sit down and get really deep into it.
While some thought the 1 hit kill was stupid, I love how you had to plan out your attack instead of just running at someone.
Matches could go for 2 or 3 minutes, and then a minute or more when someone's leg would get hit.
Damn, now i'm in the mood to play again.

Square went away from (at least here in America) those games that wernt in their RPG zone (Last few I can think of that arnt the Strat-sims like Front Mission have been Drakengard and The Bouncer, which were both poor games). I dont think that Bushido Blade or its sequel really sold all that well and were unconventional enough that there wasnt a huge aura about them (not that Square didnt try to promote them). The strategy fighter like it is doesnt tend to fall into the American notion of button mashing and Street Fighter-esque fighting that does well out here, and even then those games tend to be under run as well.

The guys who developed Bushido Blade also did Kengo for the PS2 (IIRC). However, I can't possibly recommend it, as the gameplay share very little in common with its PSX conterparts.
I was always a fan of just running up and clubbing people with the hammer. I've got a copy, and just may go back to it today for a short time.
We used to have SO much fun with Bushido Blade. I should go out and buy a new copy this week for old time's sake. We'd see just how drawn out we could make a match go for. Our favorite area was either the wooden bridge or the cherry tree orchard. I don't think that we actually ever DID make it to 100% completion without being barred for dishonor.

Bushido Blade was kinda like the thinking man's fighter. Considering you had to plan your attacks, as well as being able to strike an opponent's vital points, instead of just button pounding on the opponent.

I was a huge Bushido Blade fan. Initially, I borrowed it from an fellow cadet in high school, and I was almost instantly hooked. The one-hit kills and simplicity ironically made it a superb fighter. There's enough diversity to make characters, environments, and weapons a different experience, and that's it. All the modes have their own merits:
Single Player is an Emo-experience akin to an anime.
Two Player is a fun and brutal battle akin to Kill Bill.
First Person mode is good after you've had a bad day and want to slaughter things. Even the kill 100 guys mode is a good time. It feels like a genuine old-school samurai fight.
My one complaint with the game is that the block button could have been a bit more precise. While a Soul Calibur "I press button X and can dodge a shit storm of blades" wouldn't really work with the atmosphere of the game, maybe a "I press button X and can block anything for the next 5 seconds" type of affair would work.

I liked both games, though I prefer the original to the sequel. I wish I could see the further adventures of Tatsumi on another system...

i love both games, but the original was far better than 2, there was just something to the original BB that made it great. I wish they would make a third one akin to the original.

It depends, I enjoyed the game with my friends for a while but we got bored and returned to Street Fighter or Sam Sho or KoF. BB is not the conventional fighting game, have huge stages, good characters and weapons, a fight can take various minutes, but the gameplay is not rock solid. If I'd have to choose one Squaresoft fighting game, I will choose Tobal 1 or 2.

Wasn't there a Bushido Blade 2 made for the PS2 in Japan? Has anyone tried it?

BB 1 and 2 were some of the greatest fighting games ever. I'd so buy it if they made a sequel.

The BB games were good. I've been wanting to pick them up, but I'm waiting till I find them in the wild.

Yeah, I love the games as well. When I first played it, I didn't think there was much to it, but after me and a group of friends played it for hours on end, I realized how much there actually was to it. I suppose its similar to Smash Brothers in that aspect.
On a side note, the Bushido Blade 2 strategy guide is probably the most common guide I see around here. Is this a local thing, or was it really that common? There's more of the guides out in the wild here than the actual games...

how do you unlock the closet-transexual-to be-gunman in bushido blade 1's slash mode? someone somewhat recently told me that unlike gamefaqs' suggestion, you don't have to beat slash mode without dying or playing dirty (backstabbing/hitting while down).
